The Smiling Death-Chapter 376: Now This… Is Getting Interesting
Slash!
A dark blade, covered in darkness, slashed through the body of a flying monster, sending it crashing toward the ground.
Splash.
Black blood spilled through the air. The blade belonged to Amon. The battle had already started.
Amon glanced at Ethan, who was moving beside him. He was holding a spear.
A spider dashed toward him.
Ethan didn’t feel any fear. The spear in his hand gleamed with brown energy. He raised his right leg and stomped it onto the ground.
The earth beneath the monster trembled.
Then jagged spikes made of earth and stone rose upward.
Gaahhkkkk!
They lifted the spider into the air, piercing it from below. Though it didn’t injure the monster much, since those spikes were not too sharp.
Ethan kicked off the ground.
Thrust.
His spear shot forward and pierced directly into the open mouth of the spider.
Splash.
Blood gushed out as the monster died.
’Damn! He’s using my trick... but well, he is doing better than expected... but there are many monsters coming.’
For now, most of them were being held back by Scarlett and Ethan’s father, Mark.
Amon looked at Scarlett as she moved with lightning speed. Her image blurred between the monsters.
Her blade cut through tens of monsters within just a few seconds.
Crazy!
Ethan’s father was by no means behind her. He also used a spear. He moved with precision, with no wasted movements.
Each of his thrusts and slashes killed a monster.
Amon turned toward the incoming monsters.
’Alright, let’s fight more strongly.’
Those who were archers kept firing arrows into the air at the flying monsters, while a few others cast their magic spells.
They were doing better than expected.
But more monsters were coming from other sides.
Amon exhaled slowly.
His shadow stretched.
A small part of it moved toward his left hand and wrapped around his hatchet.
Amon then used his darkness ability. Out of nowhere, darkness appeared without any use of mana.
His dark eyes narrowed. "Alright, let me show him how it is done," he muttered.
The darkness instantly wrapped around the hatchet, making it stronger and sharper. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The size of the hatchet also increased. It became a large axe of pure black color. More than ten monsters were coming in his direction.
They were spiders. The stretched shadow beneath him moved from his feet.
Silently, yet at blinding speed, it shot toward the incoming monsters.
Amon commanded it.
The moment the shadow reached beneath those monsters—
Darkness erupted around them. Enveloping the shadow, it helped the shadow rise up in solid form.
Huge black spikes burst from the ground. They were sharp and lethal, meant to tear apart with their sharp tips.
Splash!
They tore through the monsters’ bodies as black blood sprayed into the air.
The creatures screamed loudly.
Amon raised his left hand. With all his strength, he threw the hatchet forward.
Swish!
A dark black trajectory formed in the air as it shot forward at lightning speed.
The hatchet spun through the air, cutting through it with a sharp whistling sound.
The weapon moved on Amon’s command, by his will.
It struck the first monster, cleanly beheading it.
Then it continued forward, slicing through the heads of the other monsters as well.
Their bodies, already impaled on the black spikes, collapsed lifelessly.
Amon looked at Ethan with a calm gaze.
Ethan, who had just killed another monster, looked at Amon with surprise.
"Buddy! Don’t stop! Keep killing," Amon smiled widely and encouraged him.
Ethan’s spear, which was buried inside the spider’s head, was pulled out as blood burst out like a fountain.
"Of course. I won’t stop," Ethan said, getting more confident with each kill.
Despite talking to Ethan, Amon’s focus was on his hatchet... which was not in the form of an axe.
The axe moved up in the air toward those flying humanoid figures. The black axe spun through the gray sky like some omen of death.
It moved fast while leaving black smoky trails behind. It cut through them one by one.
Slashing heads, cutting wings, or crushing their skulls.
"Handling that hatchet like this is still hard... but still doable."
A vein bulged on his forehead because of using his ability too much.
But this much was bearable.
The battlefield did not slow down for even a moment.
The forest trembled with their movement.
From the cracked earth and the cave entrances, another wave of spiders emerged.
But these were different.
This time they were larger, heavier, and stronger. Their bodies were thicker, their legs sharper, and their dark exoskeletons reflected a faint, ominous sheen under the gray sky.
Amon’s eyes narrowed the moment he saw them. He immediately understood. These were not the same as before.
"These ones... are stronger," he muttered under his breath.
They were Rank Three. Stronger than before. The previous ones had been Rank Two, easy enough to deal with using coordination and power.
But these were on a different level compared to the first ones.
One of the massive spiders suddenly stopped and lifted its front legs.
Its abdomen twitched.
Then a thick strand of web shot out at high speed.
SHHHK!
"Watch out!" someone shouted.
The web slammed into the ground, sticking instantly and pulling tight like steel threads.
Another followed. Then another came.Within seconds, multiple spiders began launching webs across the battlefield, trying to restrict movement.
One villager got caught on the arm.
"Damn it—!" he struggled as the sticky thread pulled him off balance.
Before the spider could reach him, an arrow pierced straight through its eye. The creature screeched and collapsed.
"I’ve got you!" one of the archers shouted from behind.
Elsewhere, a mage raised both hands, unleashing a burst of flames that burned through several webs mid-air.
The group was holding. They weren’t breaking. Even against stronger enemies, they were fighting back.
Amon watched all of this in a single glance. Then his lips slowly curved upward. A grin appeared on his face.
Not of relief, but of excitement.
"Now this... is getting interesting."
