The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 179: Meeting Rose Sawyer Together
Holly is her benefactor; her life depends on Holly for upkeep, so of course Holly should be the one treating for meals.
She treating? Sorry, she’s a little poor.
"Weren’t you the one who asked me out for a meal? Why should I be the one paying for it?"
Holly folded her arms and looked at Rose Sawyer, expressing her dissatisfaction.
Heh, it was Rose Sawyer who arranged the dinner, picked the restaurant, so the payment should also be Rose Sawyer’s responsibility.
The logic of Rose Sawyer is really something.
"Yes, I’m treating and you’re paying, there’s nothing wrong with that, right?"
Rose Sawyer said it so naturally, she felt paying was something Holly should do.
"Am I your daughter or are you my daughter?"
Holly raised an eyebrow, looking at Rose Sawyer in discontent.
"You’re my daughter, so you have to pay, no problem."
Rose Sawyer said, and then started marking up the menu, all without looking at Holly and Leo Grant even once.
Holly is a foodie, a trait that’s genetic because Rose Sawyer is also a foodie, but to maintain her elegant posture, she usually behaves indifferent in the face of delicious food.
Holly: "What logic."
Holly and Rose Sawyer bickered back and forth, appearing to be at odds, yet unexpectedly harmonious.
Leo Grant watched Holly and Rose Sawyer’s interaction, slightly curling the corners of his lips, finding the scene unusually warm.
"Alright, finished picking, see if there’s anything else you want to eat."
Rose Sawyer put down the menu, signaling Holly and Leo Grant to add anything else they wanted.
She neither mentioned Leo Grant nor her views on Leo Grant or her impressions.
"Do you think I need to add anything?"
Holly didn’t even glance at the menu, coldly looking at Rose Sawyer.
She didn’t need to look to know Rose Sawyer’s habits; she surely ordered almost everything on the menu except a few dishes she’s not interested in.
Leo Grant followed Holly’s lead by glancing at the menu, noticing it’s almost completely marked with "√"s.
Practically everything on the menu was ordered.
Leo Grant sighed inwardly: Truly mother and daughter, so similar in some ways.
"Share your thoughts?"
With dishes arriving one by one, Rose Sawyer focused on the food, picking up her chopsticks to eat, as if today’s sole purpose was eating without any other intention.
Watching Rose Sawyer behave like this, Holly lightly tapped the plate with her chopsticks, clearing her throat and speaking.
"Let me eat first, I’ve been hungry for a long time."
Rose Sawyer raised her eyes, shot Holly a glance, and continued eating.
"Brother, let’s eat first."
Holly smiled at Leo Grant and slowly spoke.
She wasn’t sure about Leo Grant’s current mood, but she wanted him to feel at ease.
"Okay."
Leo Grant nodded.
He, as usual, peeled shrimp and picked fish bones for Holly, taking good care of her; Holly just needed to concentrate on eating without worrying about anything else.
Shrimp shells had someone peeling, fish bones had someone picking, even the trouble of food had someone handling it.
Rose Sawyer occasionally raised her eyes to glance a few times, without saying a word, continuing to eat without making any comments.
"The food here is good, let’s come again next time."
Holly raised her eyes to look at Leo Grant, slowly speaking.
She had been a foodie for a long time, uncovering many delicious places, though she couldn’t guarantee not to miss any of them.
Leo Grant nodded: "Okay."
"Include me next time."
Rose Sawyer lifted her eyes and casually said.
Of course she’d want to be included if there’s good food.
Holly: "Why don’t you retire and go."
Rose Sawyer: "Shut up already."
Time passed quickly during the meal, Rose Sawyer elegantly removed a napkin to wipe her mouth, then directed her gaze at Leo Grant.
Suddenly, being stared at by Rose Sawyer, Leo Grant felt like he was sitting on pins and needles, quite uncomfortable, his palms already sweating.
It turned out the tension of meeting the parents was something everyone experiences.
Holly felt it, and he did too.
"No worries."
Holly saw Leo Grant’s nervousness, extending her hand to hold Leo Grant’s hand, giving him a gentle smile.
Everything will be alright; she’s here.
"Give a brief introduction." Rose Sawyer’s gaze fixatedly on Leo Grant, then shot Holly a glance, "You be quiet, don’t speak."
"Hello, Auntie, I’m Leo Grant..."
Leo Grant introduced himself in detail and expressed his feelings for Holly.
His affection for Holly, whether at first sight or gradually over time, he promised the rest of his life would be devoted to Holly, to indulge and cherish her, being good to her forever.
A lifetime is long, but he’d uphold his pledge.
"Very good."
Rose Sawyer appraised with two candid words.
Leo Grant’s qualities can certainly be deemed good, and he’s good to Holly too.
The meal’s duration allowed her to clearly observe.
Love or indifference can actually be discerned during a single meal.
Leo Grant kept serving Holly her favorite dishes, although he served other dishes too, those were relatively less frequent.
"I won’t overly interfere with Holly’s affairs, but I need you to guarantee that what you say will be fulfilled, that Holly will be the only one in your lifetime."
Rose Sawyer crossed her arms, glaring at Leo Grant, her tone flat.
Rose Sawyer wouldn’t oppose Holly’s preferences, as long as there’s no issue with character, because there’s truly no need for opposition.
Daughters grow up and need their own thoughts, and the right to choose partners should be in their own hands.
"Okay, I’ll make sure of it."
Leo Grant nodded, his tone exceedingly earnest.
Whatever he vowed to do, he’d naturally commit to it.
He didn’t envy those couples who were spectacularly dramatic; he admired elderly couples strolling hand in hand along paths.
Love doesn’t require drama; a gentle, enduring flow suffices.
He hoped, when he and Holly grew old, they’d hold hands watching the sunrise and sunset, take walks together, and sit under the shade conversing about their youth.
"Hmm, alright then."
Rose Sawyer yawned.
"I’ve seen my son-in-law, I should head back to sleep." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She yawned again, and slowly spoke, maintaining a simple tone.
Saying so, she stood, picked up her bag and left, without another glance at Holly and Leo Grant.
Holly: "???"
What attitude is that?
What tone?
What kind of person is she?
Holly was truly left speechless by Rose Sawyer.
"Auntie doesn’t oppose our relationship."
Watching Rose Sawyer leave, Leo Grant was as thrilled as a child who just got candy, laughter lining his features.
"She wouldn’t oppose."
She’d only disdain.
Holly’s lips twitched softly for a moment as she spoke, leaving the latter half unsaid.
Her choices wouldn’t be opposed by Rose Sawyer, but what she was thinking or whether she would disdain was another matter.
"Your mom is quite adorable."
Leo Grant gently ruffled Holly’s head, his voice tender.
