Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Letting Go of the Past

Originally from a prominent family, news of a wedding would inevitably circulate; lacking any news would make it seem quite sudden.

Nathaniel Shaw’s tone remained flat: "Right."

It was quite sudden; when he heard the news, he was quite shocked, but after the shock came calmness.

Not everything in life goes as desired; perhaps this is destiny’s arrangement.

"Did they register their marriage?"

Leo Grant lowered his gaze and suddenly asked.

"I didn’t ask."

Nathaniel shook his head.

"As long as you want, there’s still a chance."

Leo looked at Nathaniel, speaking earnestly.

If Nathaniel wanted, he could find a way to stop this wedding from taking place on schedule, or even disrupt it.

Before the formal ceremony, there’s room for things to change.

"No, let the past be the past."

"Honestly, it’s not that hard. Maybe she was just my first crush when I was young."

Nathaniel slowly shook his head, saying perhaps he didn’t like her that much.

When he learned she was getting married, he felt a bit sad, but not to the point of suffocation.

"Okay."

Leo said nothing more.

After the three of them finished washing the dishes, they left the kitchen.

In the living room, Holly Sawyer and Cecilia Bennett were chatting happily, laughing and playful.

"By the way, my cousin is getting married in a week, and she invited me to be a bridesmaid. Do you want to come along for fun?"

Cecilia winked at Holly as she invited her.

Cecilia’s cousin, Holly knew her, but not well.

"No, thanks, I’m not really familiar with her."

Holly shook her head.

"It’s fine, I’ll take you for the feast, and you’ll leave stuffed."

Cecilia patted her chest seriously and confidently.

They used to enjoy crashing banquets like this. Not because the food was luxurious or expensive, but because they found it fun.

"But you’re a bridesmaid. How can you take me to crash?"

Holly raised an eyebrow, looking at Cecilia with an amused expression.

"No biggie, I’ll just not be one then. I never agreed in the first place, and I’m not close with her anyway."

Cecilia shrugged, speaking nonchalantly.

Even though they were related, she really wasn’t close to her cousin; they hadn’t been in much contact, and she barely knew her character—just a first impression.

"Alright, take me along then."

Holly reached out to high-five Cecilia, winking, her eyes full of mirth.

"It’s settled then. I’ll pick you up then."

Cecilia jingled her keys and said slowly.

Holly nodded: "OK."

"What’s making you so happy?"

Leo walked over, hearing a burst of laughter, and looked affectionately at Holly, asking softly.

"Cecilia said she’d take me to crash a wedding feast and freeload."

Holly playfully winked, smiling brightly.

A wedding feast?

Leo suddenly frowned, glancing at Nathaniel.

Nathaniel remained indifferent.

"Cecilia’s cousin is getting married in a week, we’re just going to join in the fun. You don’t mind, do you, brother?"

Holly asked, looking at Leo the whole time.

Holly definitely didn’t know about Nathaniel’s issue.

A week later?

Leo was stunned; it really was her wedding. He turned back to look at Nathaniel.

Nathaniel remained indifferent, as if the topic had nothing to do with him.

"What’s your cousin’s name, Miss Bennett?"

Noah Raines swallowed, asking.

Trying to hear an unfamiliar name, hoping it wasn’t all such a coincidence.

Cecilia slowly said a name: "Selena Bennett."

Same surname, but not from the same ancestor; just two families coincidentally sharing a surname.

Noah: "..."

This damn coincidence.

Leo’s expression changed slightly for a moment.

"What’s up?"

Leo’s change in emotion didn’t escape Holly’s eyes, and she asked in confusion.

It felt strange, hard to articulate.

"Selena and Nathaniel grew up together."

Leo stopped speaking at that point.

Holly blinked, her gaze falling on Nathaniel.

Leo didn’t finish, but Holly understood.

It’s basically a classic childhood friendship story that didn’t end in love; so, did they love each other or not?

"It’s nothing. As long as she’s happy, that’s enough."

Nathaniel had a faint smile on his lips as he said softly.

He wasn’t very sad; instead, he felt rather relieved.

"Wow, a whole novel is playing out in my mind."

Cecilia exclaimed, rubbing her temples.

Though she wasn’t very familiar with Selena, she always knew Selena had someone she liked. The sudden marriage made her think Selena had finally won over that person’s heart, but turns out that wasn’t the case.

"Bro, anything on your mind?"

Cecilia darted over to Nathaniel’s side, casually draping an arm over his shoulders, eyebrows raised.

Having spent quite some time abroad, she became more relaxed about physical contact between genders, not adhering to conventional distinctions.

Cultural norms really vary.

"Nothing on my mind."

Nathaniel shook his head.

"Crash the wedding? I can help you, it sounds thrilling."

Cecilia said earnestly, imagining various scenarios. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

She’s got a whole story in her head, just waiting for Nathaniel to act it out, expecting it to unfold like in her mind.

"No, my heart’s at peace. Her getting married should be a joyous event; no need for any underhandedness."

Nathaniel shook his head, now all four’s attention focused on him, creating an inexplicable pressure.

He genuinely felt nothing of it, absolutely no issue, but these people just thought he did, thought he would be very upset.

"Cecilia, how about setting up a meeting with your cousin?"

Holly gently bit her lip, her gaze circling everyone’s faces, speaking slowly.

Nathaniel: "..."

This plotline feels a bit off.

"Okay, I’ll text her right now."

Cecilia agreed, pulling out her phone to send a message.

"No need."

Nathaniel stopped Cecilia.

"I merely had feelings for her. The past is the past, now is now, everyone has a chance for a new beginning, both her and me."

Nathaniel said, his tone particularly serious.

Selena was getting married; he should wish her well.

Because regardless of love, he couldn’t give Selena the future she wanted.

He wouldn’t choose to give up his career, wouldn’t pass the muster with Selena’s parents; their future would be fraught with difficulties.
