Chapter 82: Is There Anyone Else that Objects?

"You will have to give us the food first. Only after we are satisfied, that is the time that you may deliver the food to the other low level people." Just before the food could even be delivered, a man with a pot belly spoke.

Jasmine who had just stepped into the underground building had a shift in her expression. She looked at the man who had spoken with a deadly expression on her face.

When the potbellied man realized that she was looking at him, he was completely displeased. "What are you staring at? Do you have anything against what I have said?" The man asked arrogantly.

Jasmine took a step forward and looked at the man directly in the eyes. In the next moment, she said coldly, "We have gone out, and we have already lost a few of our members just because we wanted to get the food. And instead of even trying to console us for the losses that we have encountered, you are actually just thinking about the food. Are you human?"

The man was surprised because this was the first time that he had actually been addressed in such a manner by a lady. Additionally, it was not long ago that Jasmine had been obedient and had been trying to calm them down humbly.

"How dare you speak to me in such a manner? Are you tired of living?!" Infuriated and embarrassed, the man shouted at Jasmine, and at the same time, he raised his hand trying to slap her.

But before the hand could land on her, it was grabbed by yet another large and strong hand. When the man turned around, he realized that the captain had suddenly come over. And he was the one who was holding the hand that was just about to slap Jasmine.

"You can do all you can, but there’s something that I will not allow you to do. Young miss has already sacrificed a lot for you, but yet here you are, completely ungrateful." The captain said these words coldly as he tightened his grasp on the man’s hand.

Ahh!

As a sharp pain suddenly emerged from his hand, the potbellied man suddenly screamed. His red eyes reddened further, but he did not dare to say anything else as he had already been intimidated by the captain’s ferocious gaze on him.

"Stop it Arthur. That’s enough for now. Let us deal with the matter of distributing the food. I’m sure that many people are going to starve." The governor finally spoke. He couldn’t accept internal strife to suddenly erupt at this moment when they were facing danger outside.

Even though Arthur really wanted to beat up this man, he had no choice but to stop. Even until now, though the governor was not yet an awakened person, still, Arthur’s respect for him had not diminished.

"We’ll start distributing the food. The amount of food that is supposed to be distributed here is supposed to be less as compared to the one that is supposed to be distributed to the other side." Jasmine said, completely not caring about the potbellied man.

But the moment that her words fell, commotion suddenly ensued in the room. These rich people could not accept the decision that Jasmine had made.

"What do you mean by that? You want to say that those dogs are more important than us?" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"That’s right. We have been contributing to the development of the city by paying taxes. We have never evaded something like that, and for that reason, we will have to be treated well here."

"They are just nobodies. Even if they die now, there is nothing that is going to change. After all, after everything is back to normal, we are the only ones who are going to be taxed higher."

"In fact, all the food should be distributed to us. After we are completely full, we are supposed to store the remaining ones for tomorrow. After all, we cannot simply think only of today."

"Yes. You will have to distribute all the food to us, and forget about those dogs. It is already good enough that you have provided them with a place where they can hide."

Jasmine watched as these rich people continue remarking selfish words. None of them really cared about the fate of others. Instead, they only cared about themselves.

If they could not finish the food that have been brought over, then they would just keep it for tomorrow. As for the other people that were starving, that was none of their businesses.

For them to be able to reach the level that they had been before the apocalypse descended, they had been ruthless people. So, why were they supposed to care about others, and why were they supposed to feel guilty when they were not the ones that had killed them?

They died of starvation, and that was natural death. They didn’t go over and strangle them until they died.

Jasmine’s expression shifted further. During the returning trip, she had already experienced several gangsters that were either pillaging, or robbing others. In the streets, it was a common sight to see a random group of gangsters bullying others.

This was an opportunity for mankind to see the real nature of humans. Previously, before she had gone out, she had thought that perhaps the group outside was behaving like that simply because they were gangsters.

But now, she had come to a realization that the most cruel humans were those that were in front of her. These people that had been staying here depending on those "dogs" to plant food for them, were actually letting them die.

That implied that, if the ordinary population in the country all died out, there would be nobody that would be in the agricultural sector and so on. And if that happened, would these rich people go and farm by themselves? Did they even have the skills to do that?

The governor tried calming the crowd down, but no matter how much he said, the crowd did not listen. At this moment, they didn’t even show any hint of respect for the governor, because to them, the governor was just a title.

If he did not do as they wanted, then, it was not going to be a difficult task for them to be able of removing him from the position that he was holding. It was just something that could happen with a single snap of their fingers.

When Jasmine realized that this group of rich people was getting more and more out of control, anger began surging in her heart.

Looking at her father who was struggling to try and control the crowd, she could not take it anymore. After all, the governor had just lost his wife not long ago, however he had no choice but to put on a smile on his face, just to try and please this group of people.

"All of you! Shut the hell up!" Jasmine shouted at the top of her voice.

The loud shouts that have already filled the area suddenly died down. Everyone looked at Jasmine with incredulous gazes. Nobody had ever expected that they could at one point see Jasmine acting up like that. After all, she was always a noble lady, and this was the first time that she had acted in such a manner.

When she realized that they had stopped talking, Jasmine continued. "Right now, I understand that it is everyone for themselves. It is a time when every human is selfish. And for that reason I will not blame you for being selfish. But if you want to play that way, then, we can also become selfish and deny you the food that we have brought over."

"It is not like we are obliged to bring it to you. At the end of the day, we are not your servants. In this apocalypse, it is everyone for themselves. We were out there, risking our lives, losing some of our friends, just to get this food."

"But after we brought the food here, you are only thinking about keeping all of it to yourselves. Then, why don’t you think about the people that have brought over the food?! We are the ones that brought the food, and are the ones that are supposed to decide on who is going to receive the food!"

The room remained silent for a long while, as everyone looked at Jasmine. And after a while, a middle-aged lady with thick makeup on her face took a step forward and said, "What are you trying to imply by saying that you are not our servants?"

"As long as I know, the governor is supposed to be a public servant. And if that is the case, are we not the public? Since we are the public, you are supposed to serve us until we are satisfied."

The moment that she said those words, the crowd behind her that had been keeping quiet suddenly erupted once again.

"That’s right. The governor was chosen to serve us, so you should not complain about the responsibilities that you are supposed to take!"

"If you don’t do it obediently, then we are going to force you to do it."

"Once I get out of here, I will definitely make sure that you pay for trying to deny us food. This is completely against the human rights."

Just as they were about to continue, immense pressure suddenly erupted. In the next moment, all those that had been shouting suddenly quieted down as they felt that there was a heavy load that was pressing on them.

They began sweating, as they felt that they were going to be crushed in the next moment.

"Civil servants, hehe. You know how to speak. I agree that my father is a civil servant, and he is supposed to take care of all of you. But, hasn’t he already done enough by making sure that all of you are safe here?" Jasmine began speaking with a cold laugh.

"Hasn’t he sacrificed enough just to make sure that all of you are safe? As for me, I was the one that was in charge of bringing the food here. And, do you think that I am a civil servant to you? Do you think that I am obliged to give you the food?"

The more she spoke, the more the pressure intensified. This group really wanted to retort, however, they did not have any choice but to shut up due to the pressure that was on them.

Jasmine was just about to continue speaking when suddenly, three people that had been shouting the most suddenly had an arrow embedded on each of their foreheads.

At the same time, a cold voice reverberated in the air, "Is there anyone else that objects the decision that has been made?"
