The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 113 - 111: Fertile Days
The speaker was Lu Xiao. He was standing at the door to the hospital room, his military-green jacket still carrying the chill of the outdoors.
However, his expression was even darker than the last time he’d faced Mu Tianrui.
’It wasn’t always a good thing for his wife to be so attractive.’
The old woman froze, looking from Su Tang to Lu Xiao, then quickly tried to smooth things over.
"Silly me. A wonderful girl like Doctor Su must already be taken."
Su Tang’s cheeks flushed slightly as Lu Xiao walked in and took her hand. "I’m her husband."
The old woman tsked a couple of times. Seeing their joined hands, her eyes crinkled into a smile. "A perfect match, truly a perfect match!"
’Too bad for my eldest son, though,’ she thought. ’Looks like I’ll have to keep looking for him.’
"What are you doing here?"
Su Tang looked at Lu Xiao’s sour expression, then smiled and stood on her tiptoes to pinch his cheek.
"You’re all puffed up like a pufferfish."
Lu Xiao shot her a glance and sighed in resignation.
"I’m tempted to stick a sign on you that says, ’Married’."
’Mu Tianrui asking last time was one thing, but for someone else to ask here too... It’s as if Su Tang being married is some unbelievable feat.’
"People don’t know, so it’s only natural for them to ask. Come on, don’t be mad."
After saying this, Su Tang leaned in close and whispered, "I’ll make it up to you tonight."
Hearing Su Tang’s promise, no matter how upset Lu Xiao had been, his anger completely dissipated.
"Mom asked me to tell you they found a suitable house. She wants you to go take a look after your shift."
"I didn’t have anything to do this afternoon, so I came to pick you up."
Su Tang changed out of her white coat, and she and Lu Xiao walked out of the main hospital entrance together.
The evening breeze carried a slight chill, feeling comfortable against their faces. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Lu Xiao smoothly took the bag from Su Tang’s hands, taking her hand with his other and lacing their fingers together.
"Is the house Mom and Dad found far from here?"
Su Tang asked, tilting her head toward Lu Xiao. ’I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had time to think about it. Her parents probably told Lu Xiao about their search for a house long ago.’
’These days, Mr. and Mrs. Su were even fonder of Lu Xiao than they were of her.’
"Not too far. It’s about a fifteen-minute bike ride."
"They said it used to belong to a retired veteran. He’s moving in with his children, so he wanted to free up the house here."
Su Tang nodded. She felt a mix of anticipation and a touch of sadness.
’She knew it was good for her parents to have their own place, but she couldn’t help but feel a little empty at the thought of them truly living apart.’
The two of them got on their bicycles and rode at a leisurely pace toward the address her parents had given them.
Along the way, Su Tang told Lu Xiao about the case conference and the foul look on Doctor Meng’s face.
Lu Xiao listened, his brow furrowing slightly. "If she gives you trouble again, don’t just take it."
"I know,"
Su Tang smiled. "I’m not a pushover. If she wants to start something, I’ll be ready. But right now, the most important thing is to focus on my work. Everything else can run its course."
"Besides, I don’t want to argue with her every day. It’s exhausting."
Looking at Su Tang’s composed demeanor, Lu Xiao felt a sense of pride swell in his heart.
’His Tangtang was always so independent and so exceptional.’
’No wonder so many people were drawn to her, always trying to play matchmaker.’
Soon, they arrived at their destination.
It was an old-fashioned courtyard house. Though it showed its age, it looked very tidy.
Mr. and Mrs. Su were already waiting at the gate. The moment they saw them arrive, their faces broke into wide smiles.
"Quick, come and see! What do you think of the house?"
Mrs. Su pulled Su Tang inside.
The courtyard wasn’t large, but it was kept very clean, with a few potted flowers growing in a corner.
The main house had two rooms, and there was a small side room as well. It looked like more than enough space for the two of them.
The furniture inside was old but sturdy, and it had been polished until it was spotless.
"The house gets good light and has nice ventilation. Plus, the neighbors are all old acquaintances, so it’ll be easy to get along with everyone,"
Mr. Su explained with a smile, his eyes filled with satisfaction.
Su Tang looked around and felt it was a great place, too.
"Mom, Dad, this house is really nice. As long as you’re comfortable living here, that’s all that matters."
"It’s just a bit far from you two. If we want to see you in the future, we’ll have to make a special trip,"
Mrs. Su said with a sigh. But they couldn’t bring themselves to keep imposing on their son-in-law forever.
"Mom, it’s not far at all. We’ll come over whenever we have time, and if you and Dad miss us, you can always come visit us too."
Su Tang said, holding her mother’s hand. Lu Xiao chimed in, "That’s right, Mom, Dad. I’ll bring Tangtang over on my bike whenever I’m free. Or you two could come stay with us for a few days."
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Su’s hearts felt warm.
The family sat in the courtyard for a while, chatting about how to arrange the house and their future plans.
Mrs. Su said she planned to clean out the side room to use as a storage room, using one of the main rooms as a bedroom and the other as a living room.
"Oh, right. Your dad and I will start packing tomorrow. When you two are free this weekend, you can help us move in."
"Okay, no problem."
Su Tang and Lu Xiao replied in unison.
Her parents wanted to have them stay for dinner, but Mr. Su was worried about them traveling back in the dark, so he insisted they leave.
Mrs. Su took Su Tang’s hand and secretly pressed a cloth bundle into it.
"These are some eggs I saved for you. Take them home to build up your strength. You must be exhausted from working at the hospital lately."
Su Tang couldn’t refuse, so she had no choice but to accept them.
Lu Xiao watched from the side, his heart filled with gratitude for his in-laws.
On the way back, Su Tang leaned against Lu Xiao’s back, feeling at ease as she took in the faint, clean scent of soap on him.
"Lu Xiao, it’s so great that Mom and Dad found such a suitable house."
"Mhm. As long as they’re happy, that’s all that matters."
Lu Xiao pedaled the bicycle, his voice gentle. "We’ll make more time to go see them in the future."
"Okay."
Su Tang agreed, a smile playing on her lips.
When they got home, Su Tang put the eggs in the kitchen while Lu Xiao went to heat some water.
After quickly washing up, they lay down on the heated brick bed, ready to sleep.
"You must be exhausted today, huh?"
Lu Xiao gently stroked Su Tang’s hair.
"I’m okay, just a little sleepy."
Su Tang yawned. "But I feel so happy thinking about Mom and Dad’s new house."
"Go to sleep. You have work tomorrow."
Lu Xiao said softly, pulling Su Tang into his arms.
But Su Tang wasn’t quite ready to settle down. She turned over to face him.
"Lu Xiao... I’m ovulating these next few days."
Hearing this, Lu Xiao’s mind went blank.
"Ovulating?"
It was as if his brain couldn’t process the word; he was utterly stunned.
He looked down at Su Tang. The dim lamplight outlined the soft curve of her profile, and he could see a mischievous glint in her eyes, like a kitten that had just stolen a treat.
"It’s... the time when it’s easiest to have a baby."
Her voice trailed off as a faint blush crept up her cheeks. As soon as she finished speaking, she buried her face in Lu Xiao’s chest, but the tips of her ears were so red they looked ready to burst.
It was only then that it dawned on Lu Xiao, and his heart clenched with a tender, aching warmth.
His breath hitched. He looked down at the woman curled up in his arms, and his Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily.
"You..."
He wanted to say something but found his throat was dry. He had to clear it, and his voice came out raspy.
"Are you sure about this?"
’He thought she hadn’t taken their previous conversation about having a child to heart.’
’That’s why he hadn’t pressed the issue.’
Su Tang nodded lightly against his chest, her voice muffled. "Didn’t we already agree? That we would try for a baby."
That’s right, they had agreed long ago.
Lu Xiao’s heart felt full to bursting. ’So, she did remember.’
