The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 132 - 130: Choosing to Return to Shanghai
Mr. and Mrs. Su saw the concern in their daughter’s eyes and then glanced at each other.
That single look contained so much unspoken emotion.
Because of what had happened, many of their friends had been scattered to the winds.
They hadn’t seen each other in a very long time.
They had thought it would take a long, long time for their names to be cleared.
They had even resigned themselves to the possibility that it might never happen in their lifetimes.
They never expected the happy surprise to come so soon.
Mrs. Su took a deep breath and wiped away her tears.
"Tangtang, we’re planning to go back."
"That place is our home, our roots. We dream of going back to see if the old house is still there, if someone is still watering the jasmine on the windowsill..."
The Northwest was nice, and their daughter was here, but ultimately, they could never fully adapt to life here.
Their greatest wish was to be able to return to Shanghai and see it one more time.
Mr. Su nodded silently, gripping his wife’s hand tightly. He finally spoke, "It’s time to go back. Shanghai... that’s where your mother and I belong."
He looked at Su Tang, a hint of guilt in his eyes.
"It’s just... leaving you here all alone..."
After all, they were reluctant to leave. Once they went back, seeing each other again would be difficult.
"Dad, Mom, don’t say that. Lu Xiao is still here, isn’t he?"
Su Tang immediately cut in, a bright smile spreading across her face.
"The fact that your names are cleared and you can go home is more important than anything. I’ll be fine here, so you don’t have to worry."
She paused, then added, "Lu Xiao’s position is higher now, so things are very stable. You two go back, take care of your health, get the house in order, and then I can really relax. We’ll have plenty of time to reunite in the future."
No matter how much she would miss her parents, Su Tang wanted what was best for her family.
Mrs. Su stepped forward and hugged Su Tang, her voice choked with emotion.
"Then we’ll go back first. We’ll come back when you’re about to give birth."
"But speaking of which, your aunt should be able to go back too. We’re planning to write her a letter and see what she thinks."
After Mrs. Su said this, Su Tang nodded lightly. She thought her mother had a point.
After all, her aunt had been on that island for so long. She couldn’t return before because of the family’s situation. Now that she had divorced that scumbag, it didn’t make sense for her to stay on the island any longer.
"Okay, I’ll write the letter then. I happen to have a few things I want to tell my aunt."
After her mother finished speaking, Su Tang suddenly thought of Su Rui’an.
’I should probably tell my aunt about this,’ she thought.
Su Rui’an getting mixed up with Su Xinyao was not a good thing. She couldn’t let Su Xinyao lead him astray.
’His attitude seemed a little off the last time I saw him.’
Seeing Su Tang take on the task, Mrs. Su nodded happily.
"Alright, we’ll leave the letter-writing to Tangtang then."
After the family had made their decision, Mr. and Mrs. Su began to pack their bags.
Su Tang conscientiously wrote a letter to her aunt, explaining that she could now return to Shanghai and no longer needed to stay on the island.
At the end of the letter, she told her aunt about Su Rui’an, urging her to call him and tell him to leave the Northwest as soon as possible.
"There’s something like that going on? How come I didn’t know?"
Lu Xiao stood behind Su Tang, reading what she had written on the notepaper.
"He only showed up that one time at the hospital. I haven’t seen him since."
Su Tang folded the finished letter, placed it in an envelope, and handed it to Lu Xiao.
"You’re closer to the post office, so I’ll have to ask my dear, dear husband to mail this for me."
Hearing those words, Lu Xiao’s ears couldn’t help but turn a little red.
They had been married for so long, but Su Tang rarely called him that. And he had to admit, being called her husband like that felt wonderful.
And so, Mr. and Mrs. Su quickly finished packing their luggage.
The various documents that had been sent to Shanghai also came back, stamped with a red seal.
Clutching them to her chest, Mrs. Su looked at the red official seal and sighed with emotion.
"It’s been so long since I’ve felt this sense of security."
Beside her, Mrs. Lu smiled.
"You can rest easy now, can’t you? Go on back if you want. I’ll be here to take care of the kids, so don’t you worry."
To Mr. and Mrs. Lu, Shanghai didn’t seem like a very distant place.
However, they could understand Mr. and Mrs. Su’s feelings. Having one’s name cleared was certainly a joyous occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Su bought train tickets for three days later. Over those three days, they were constantly giving Su Tang instructions and advice.
Su Tang brought out the trunk she had brought with her to the Northwest and gave it back to her parents.
"Mom, Dad, when I first came to the Northwest, you told me this trunk contained all our family’s assets. I don’t need it here, so you should take it back. It might come in handy."
It was a considerable fortune.
Su Tang had been wondering what to do with it, but she hadn’t made up her mind yet. Since this was happening now, she figured it was best to just let her parents take it back.
But Mr. Su pushed the trunk back toward her.
"Tangtang, we won’t take the trunk. You keep it here. You’ll have a use for it sooner or later. Your mother and I already have one foot in the grave. What would we do with so much money?"
"You’re our only precious daughter. Everything the family has will be left to you someday. This is just a little bit in advance."
Listening to her father, Su Tang felt the handle of the trunk grow warm in her hand.
"Mom, Dad, even if you don’t take it all, at least take some. You’ll need money for everything when you get back home. Our house... we don’t even know what state it’s in. So having cash on hand is very important."
Hearing Su Tang’s words, the two of them thought about it and realized she was right, so they didn’t refuse any longer.
"Alright, we’ll listen to you. Whatever our daughter says is right."
The three of them talked for a while longer before Su Tang went back to rest.
The thought of parting with her parents in just a few days made Su Tang’s eyes redden slightly. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Feeling sad?"
Lu Xiao watched Su Tang, her back to him, her shoulders trembling slightly.
He stepped forward, wrapped his arms around her waist, and whispered in her ear.
"A little. After all, I’ve been living with my parents for so long now. It’s hard to suddenly be separated."
Su Tang turned around, her gaze meeting Lu Xiao’s.
"Then how about we go back to Shanghai with them for a visit?"
After all, Su Tang had been in the Northwest for so long without ever going back.
"I’d better not. My body isn’t suited for long-distance travel right now, and my parents would never agree anyway."
"The more time we spend together, the harder it is to part. So I’d rather not."
The pain of separation wouldn’t change no matter how much more time they spent together.
The more reluctant you are to part, the harder it is to let go.
If she really did follow Mr. and Mrs. Su back to Shanghai, she was afraid she’d never want to return to the Northwest again.
