The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 19: Giving Her White Rabbit Creamy Candy
Su Tang didn’t immediately process what Lu Xiao was saying.
"The hospital?"
’Hadn’t he said they couldn’t arrange a job for me because of my background?’
Lu Xiao knew what she was thinking and offered an explanation.
"The hospital isn’t like other places. To get in, you have to pass an exam, and the hospital always sets its own standards."
"Their payroll is also separate from ours, so the requirements are more lenient."
Besides, Su Tang didn’t have any black marks on her record now.
The hospital hadn’t hired anyone in years. Now that they had positions open, they were probably hiring urgently.
As long as Su Tang was capable, there was no way the hospital would reject her.
"I see. Don’t worry, I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow to check it out."
Su Tang smiled, but inwardly she was ecstatic.
In her modern life, she had been her department’s resident workaholic.
She was highly skilled, an expert in her field, and more importantly, she had spent eight years working in a hospital.
Now, she also had the original owner’s memories of studying abroad.
Su Tang was confident she could land this job.
The next day, Su Tang arrived at the hospital early.
Sunlight streamed through the glass windows, casting patterns on the hallway floor. The smell of disinfectant filled her with a comforting sense of familiarity.
She wore a well-tailored outfit, her steps were light, and a subtle smile played on her lips.
The previous night, she had specifically asked Lu Xiao and learned that the Nurse Director at this hospital was Zheng Jinxin.
’Talk about a small world.’ She wondered if Zheng Jinxin would try to cause trouble during her interview.
Zheng Jinxin’s methods were far more sophisticated than Hu Lili’s. She would act friendly to your face, but you never knew what she was plotting behind your back.
Just as Su Tang walked into the hospital lobby, she saw a woman with delicate makeup approaching her.
The woman wore a well-fitting nurse’s uniform and a gentle smile, but a flicker of barely perceptible hostility flashed in her eyes the moment she saw Su Tang.
"We meet again, Su Tang."
Zheng Jinxin extended a hand. "I heard you were coming for an interview. I was just passing by, so let me take you to the personnel department."
Su Tang put on a grateful smile. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Nurse Director Zheng."
Both wore false smiles, though Zheng Jinxin’s was clearly tinged with disdain.
She hadn’t even gone looking for trouble with Su Tang, but here Su Tang was, coming right to her. Zheng Jinxin had no desire to work with Su Tang. It would only make people think Su Tang was her equal. But Zheng Jinxin didn’t see them as equals at all. In her eyes, Su Tang would only bring Lu Xiao endless trouble.
She, on the other hand, would not.
The two walked down the corridor, Zheng Jinxin’s pace unhurried, a gentle smile perpetually on her lips.
As they passed the nurses’ station, she suddenly stopped and turned to Su Tang.
"Su Tang, you know, working in a hospital isn’t like other jobs. What matters here is being down-to-earth and willing to work hard. Being all for show gets you nowhere."
As she spoke, she glanced pointedly at Su Tang’s clothes.
Su Tang naturally understood the subtext but maintained her faint smile. She wouldn’t do anything to lose face.
"You’re right, Nurse Director Zheng. I can’t make any other promises, but I’m definitely not afraid of hard work. You can rest assured."
’What hardship hadn’t she endured?’
’Back when she was a resident trainee, she had suffered through plenty.’
Her words carried a hidden edge, a reminder to Zheng Jinxin that she wasn’t to be trifled with.
Arriving at the door to the personnel department, Zheng Jinxin knocked. A voice from inside called, "Come in."
She pushed the door open. Three interviewers were seated inside: the hospital’s vice director and two department directors.
Zheng Jinxin walked in with a smile, introducing her warmly. "Vice Director Zhang, Director Li, Director Wang, this is Comrade Su Tang, here for the interview."
Then, putting on the air of a caring older sister, she turned to Su Tang.
"Su Tang, these leaders are all veterans of the hospital. You must make sure to do your best."
Su Tang politely greeted the interviewers and sat down in the chair opposite them.
The interview began. Vice Director Zhang started with some basic questions, which Su Tang answered one by one with poise and grace.
When it was Zheng Jinxin’s turn to ask a question, the smile on her face grew wider.
"Comrade Su Tang, I hear you studied advanced medical techniques abroad. However, the medical conditions here in our country have yet to catch up. How would you apply what you’ve learned to practice in this setting?"
The question seemed to be testing Su Tang’s adaptability, but it was actually a veiled suggestion that her knowledge might be unsuitable for the current environment.
It was a subtle attempt to push her away.
Su Tang understood this perfectly but began her response, unhurried.
"Nurse Director Zheng is right. The conditions in our hospital certainly can’t compare to those abroad. But the core of medical practice is serving the patient. Regardless of the conditions, as long as one is dedicated, one can always find a suitable method."
"Even in the most rudimentary environments, didn’t Doctor Bai Qiu’en save many lives back in his day?"
Her answer made the other interviewers nod in approval, while Zheng Jinxin’s expression faltered slightly.
Next, she asked several technical questions, all of which Su Tang answered fluently.
She even drew on her work experience from a modern hospital to offer some practical suggestions.
Seeing Su Tang’s confidence, Zheng Jinxin grew increasingly displeased. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
She hadn’t expected Su Tang to be so capable. She had originally thought she could make a fool of her during the interview; instead, she had only given Su Tang a chance to shine.
When the interview ended, Su Tang stood up to leave. Zheng Jinxin also stood up. "Su Tang, let me walk you out."
When they reached a corner in the hallway, Zheng Jinxin turned, her expression instantly becoming much warmer.
"Su Tang, once you start working here, if there’s anything you don’t understand, you can always ask me. Lu Xiao and I are friends, so of course I’ll look out for you."
Su Tang watched her switch personas and sneered inwardly, but her outward smile remained harmless.
"This is a hospital, after all. It’s best to keep things professional. But thank you, Nurse Director Zheng."
"Oh, right. I forgot to mention. I interned at a hospital in Shanghai before, so my professional skills are decent enough. But a few of the questions you asked me today... they didn’t really sound like something a professional would ask."
After saying this, Su Tang stepped forward and took Zheng Jinxin’s hand.
"The drug names were all wrong. You should be more careful in the future. If the hospital director finds out, or worse, you give the wrong medication to a patient, there will be serious trouble."
With that, she let go of Zheng Jinxin’s hand, turned, and walked away, leaving Zheng Jinxin standing there, grinding her teeth in fury.
’What did Su Tang mean by that? Was she mocking her for being all flash and no substance?’
When she got home, Su Tang told Lu Xiao about the interview. Lu Xiao wasn’t worried; he knew she would be fine.
He pulled a small box out of his pocket.
"What’s this?"
Su Tang took it and opened the box. Seeing what was inside, she broke into a smile.
"White Rabbit Creamy Candy."
Lu Xiao nodded, looking away, a little embarrassed.
"Chang Jia has a relative in the county town. I asked him to buy it."
In that era, there weren’t many flowers to give as gifts, and Lu Xiao didn’t know about such things anyway.
In his mind, White Rabbit Creamy Candy was simply the most precious thing there was.
’If he gave this to Su Tang, she would definitely be happy.’
"Well then, I’ll accept them. Wait a second, I have a gift for you too."
After saying this, Su Tang went into the inner room, and Lu Xiao’s heart leaped into his throat.
’It’s not a holiday or any special occasion. What kind of gift could she be giving me?’
