The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 98: Aunt Su’s Awakening
Su Wenbin meant every word he said to Su Yufen.
He had been against his sister marrying and moving to this island from the very beginning.
But for some reason, his sister had been dead set on the marriage.
Su Wenbin didn’t know what kind of secret she was hiding.
But now, seeing his sister in so much pain, Su Wenbin—who had always been one to encourage reconciliation over separation—spoke such firm words for the first time.
"Yu Fen, leave him. If you don’t, he’s going to torture you to death."
Seeing Su Yufen’s stunned expression, Mrs. Su reached out and helped her to her feet.
"Yu Fen, your brother is right. We may have had our disagreements in the past, but we’re still family, connected by blood. We would never harm you."
"Zhao Youcai dared to humiliate you like this in front of so many people today. Do you really think things between you can ever go back to how they were? Even if he could forgive you, do you think he wouldn’t let it fester?"
"You know what kind of person Zhao Youcai is better than we do."
Mrs. Su sighed. Listening to her brother and sister-in-law, Su Yufen understood.
Zhao Youcai was a ticking time bomb.
He was naturally suspicious and an extreme chauvinist.
The fact that Su Yufen was hiding a secret from him was a hurdle he could never overcome.
Even if Su Yufen revealed her secret now, it would only blow the situation out of proportion.
’Could a man like Zhao Youcai ever accept that she had been intimate with another man and even had an abortion for him?’
’He couldn’t. So divorce was her best option right now.’
The more Su Yufen thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. But judging by Zhao Youcai’s attitude, getting him to agree to a divorce was impossible. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Brother, Sister-in-law, it’s not that I don’t want to leave him. He’s this angry precisely *because* I asked for a divorce. He thinks I’m hiding a secret, and now he thinks I’m trying to use a divorce to wash my hands of him."
"You saw his attitude today. If I bring up divorce again, I’m afraid he’ll beat me to death."
Su Yufen’s face was etched with worry, and she didn’t know what to say. This was all because she had brought up divorce.
"There are laws to protect you now. If you really want a divorce, Aunt Su, then sue him."
Su Tang, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up.
Su Yufen was unwilling to reveal her secret to Zhao Youcai, and that very secret was likely the root cause of his violent rage.
It was better for them to divorce sooner rather than continue torturing each other.
"Is... is that really possible?"
Hearing Su Tang’s suggestion, Su Yufen hesitated.
She had never heard of having to go to court for a divorce.
"Of course it’s possible. You just can’t let him trick you with a few sweet words again, Aunt Su. The moment he coaxes you, you’ll give up on the divorce."
Su Tang wasn’t trying to be discouraging. It was just that, for Su Yufen, Zhao Youcai was boundlessly terrifying. If he just coaxed her a little, or threatened her, she might give up on the idea of divorce.
Su Wenbin and Mrs. Su stood to the side. They glanced at Su Tang but didn’t stop her.
They felt that what Su Tang said made perfect sense.
"Alright, we’ll do what Tangtang says."
Su Yufen only hesitated for a moment. But the memory of Zhao Youcai’s furious face and the times he had laid his hands on her erased any remaining doubt.
’My brother and sister-in-law are right. I can live like a human being, so why must I grovel before Zhao Youcai like a dog?’
Thinking of everything she had done to her brother, sister-in-law, and niece, tears of regret streamed down Su Yufen’s face.
"I’m sorry, Brother, Sister-in-law, Tangtang. I was wrong in the past. I did so many terrible things to you, and now that I’m in trouble, you’re all helping me."
Hearing Su Yufen’s apology, Mr. Su and Mrs. Su waved their hands dismissively, a gesture that said they were all family.
Su Tang felt a little exasperated but knew her parents’ personalities well.
After all, Su Yufen was Mr. Su’s own sister. He couldn’t possibly ignore her or refuse to help.
"In that case, I’ll write a letter to Lu Xiao and ask him to look into it for us."
Su Tang turned, her thoughts drifting to Lu Xiao, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. ’Counting the days, he should be back on the island soon.’
’I wonder how things are progressing. Will Lu Xiao and I be able to get my parents off this island smoothly?’
And so, Su Yufen temporarily squeezed in with Mr. Su, Mrs. Su, and Su Tang in their small courtyard house.
A far cry from her once harsh and mean-spirited self, Su Yufen now seemed much more pleasant.
She was quick and nimble. When she went to the beach with Su Tang to gather things, she never slacked off and was a great help.
However, to avoid running into Zhao Youcai, the two of them only went out when he was at work.
For some reason, Zhao Youcai had been quiet for a long time.
After that last visit, he hadn’t come looking for Su Yufen again.
Perhaps Su Yufen’s past behavior had made Zhao Youcai completely certain that she couldn’t survive without him.
It wasn’t that Zhao Youcai wasn’t coming to find her; he was waiting for Su Yufen to come crawling back, begging him to take her in and call off the divorce.
But this time, Su Yufen clearly understood that staying with Zhao Youcai meant living without a shred of dignity.
A rift had formed between them. Zhao Youcai would no longer show her even the occasional politeness he once had. Su Yufen was now determined to get this divorce.
After writing the letter to Lu Xiao, Su Tang put the matter out of her mind. Instead, she had her parents start packing their belongings, ready to leave the island at a moment’s notice.
She trusted Lu Xiao’s capabilities. Since he had offered to help her parents leave the island, she knew he would plan everything meticulously.
「Four or five days passed.」
Su Tang didn’t receive a letter from Lu Xiao. Instead, just as she and Su Yufen were about to head out, they were blocked at the door by Zhao Youcai.
"Su Yufen, what is the meaning of this? You’re really not coming home, are you?"
Without Su Yufen to take care of him, Zhao Youcai was scruffy and sloppily dressed, a far cry from his previously well-groomed appearance.
At the sight of Zhao Youcai, Su Yufen instinctively flinched back, hiding behind Su Tang.
Years of psychological intimidation made her terrified at the mere sight of him.
Su Tang didn’t say a word, simply taking a silent step forward.
"Didn’t my aunt tell you she wants a divorce? Are you hard of hearing, or did you just not understand?"
Su Tang was always so calm and placid, yet she could effortlessly provoke Zhao Youcai’s anger.
Su Yufen was clearly afraid. She tugged on Su Tang’s sleeve, worried that Zhao Youcai would start a fight with her.
"What does this have to do with you? This is between me and your aunt."
As he spoke, Zhao Youcai moved to shove Su Tang.
Not to be outdone, Su Tang took the wicker basket from her back and slammed it down over Zhao Youcai’s head.
"Aunt Su, there are some things no one can say for you. Now’s the time for you to make things clear to him."
