The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth-Chapter 64: Overlapping
Chapter 64: Overlapping
Disappointment filled Vacuse as he watched Captain Yemi turn and begin to walk away.
He thought he could use the trouble between the two of them to get away from them, but as it turned out, they weren’t planning to fight in the first place.
What a waste of tension.
Vacuse sighed as he raised his hand to put on Harkon. Time to continue his plan that Yemi interrupted.
He watched as Shadowwind turned to monitor the retreat of the Captain.
It was then that it happened.
The ground shuddered, and the one directly below Shadowwind exploded with force, sending stones flying up in a bellow.
Shadowwind reacted fast. He flew upward, carried on a wave of wind and his beast.
Just in time as something came out from where he was, a snout that clamped tight on where he was.
Snap!
Fangs snapped shut on empty air. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
As everyone watched in surprise, a beast came out from the ground.
A Drake, and its eyes burned as it turned and stared at Shadowwind, who was floating up above them.
Captain Yemi shook his head. "A shame. It would have ended this pointless fight."
Shadowwind was now standing atop his beast with his eyes narrowed as he watched Yemi. "I suspected you would pull something like this off.
"It seems it’s not the Vorrakyn that should not be trusted."
Yemi smirked. "Eh? After you broke our promise and want to take him with you? I don’t owe you any form of trust."
Shadowwind nodded thoughtfully. "You are right. That is why I’m going to kill you so things can be made easier."
Yemi smirked. "You can give it a try!"
The Drake roared and jumped. The ground below it exploded in a cracking circle, and the beast shot forward at Shadowwind at impossible speed.
At the same time, Yemi turned to Vacuse and gestured.
The ground beneath him turned soft, molding over his legs, but before it could take firm hold, the air around him turned even harder, and an invisible air gripped him just before he was yanked upward the next instant.
Wossh!
Air screamed in his ears, and his face blurred.
He heard a crack somewhere and the dissatisfied roar of a Drake.
"Shadowwind!" Yemi shouted.
When everything became balanced again, Vacuse was hung in mid-air above Shadowwind, who stood calmly on his beast.
Below, Captain Yemi stood with an angry glare on his face. "Do you really want to do this? I’m a Captain in the Dragon Guard for a reason."
Shadowwind shrugged and then pointed to Zorathian’s head. "He was the Commander. And yet, look how he ended."
Anger made Yemi’s eyes twitch. "I might hate who the Dragon Guard are standing against, but don’t disrespect the most powerful forces of the Vorrakyn like that!"
Shadowwind looked at him curiously. "Don’t you find it ironic? We’ve killed more Dragon Guards this night than were ever killed in a single night by intruders. Even the Commander was killed.
"What you don’t understand is that the era of the powerful Dragon Guard is long gone. What remains are the dregs, the bottom of the barrel. Don’t you get it?
"Me, standing here, is testimony of how hard the Vorrakyn has fallen. Tonight, the last of you will be wiped out."
Captain Yemi stared. And stared. "No. Impossible. You’ve changed masters! This is not about capturing the boy again. You have already turned on us."
Shadowwind sighed and shrugged. "I guess? There’s no need to hide it anymore. Not only the Vorrakyn have to go. Everything they represent must be uprooted as well.
"Including you Vassals. A new breath must come to the West."
Vacuse started to laugh.
He just couldn’t help it.
Just how many people’s schemes went into tonight? How many plots overlapped and overran?
Vacuse’s bounding a Dragon brought them together, gave them reasons to act at the moment, and his dinner ceremony gave them the venue.
"Ah! I really wish I can carve the look on your face into stones, Yemi. I’ve never seen anyone this stunned and surprised. But wait, what do you expect to happen?
"Tell me, Shadowwind. You’ve brought more hidden forces that Captain Yemi and his allies couldn’t account for, right? Then, after they kill the Vorrakyn, the real cleaning up will start.
"I don’t think I could have made a better plan. But who is behind this? Who is the real person pulling the strings? Tell me! Tell me!"
They ignored him.
Yemi and Shadowwind focused entirely on each other.
Vacuse’s hand tightened on the vial he held in his hand. "...no... I’ll wait a little longer to use my trump card... I’ll let them fight first... maybe they’ll kill each other before I need to do anything..."
Captain Yemi smiled. "I think I like it this way. You are my enemy, and you need to die so that I can inform our people that we have backstabbing bastards around."
The air around Vacuse turned even harder and warped around him like a bubble.
Then he was lifted even higher.
Yemi shook his head and put his hand on his beast.
The beast sundownered, and in the moment it took for a Soulbearer to blink,
Yemi already transformed.
Full shift.
His body had turned stocky and covered in scales that looked like stones. His eyes glowed a faint green, and claws jutted out of his fingers.
He gestured, and the ground rumbled.
Stones shifted, and then large stabs of stones rose into the air, forming walls that reached higher than the height that Shadowwind was floating.
Vacuse’s face hardened when he saw the walls.
The palace was covered in runes that should prevent any large-scale effects of power like the one Yemi was using. It would hold him for a while, and ironically, wait for the Dragon Guards to arrive.
But now, the runes were still and silent.
Dead.
Vacuse sighed. "...what a fucking shit show this night turned out to be... I was outmaneuvered, and even if I manage to turn things around... damages had already been done... the Vorrakyn are weaker for this..."
