Chapter 271 โ€“ Conversing with the Guild

The guild itself was a large, three-story structure. f๐š›e๐šŽ๐˜„๐’†๐š‹๐š—๐š˜ัต๐‘’๐š•.๐‘๐˜ฐ๐‘š

We looked the place over, and Cruz said,

ใ€ŒWell, here the battle begins, Al.ใ€

ใ€ŒNo, itโ€™s not a battle yet. Just a fight.ใ€

ใ€ŒItโ€™s just a matter of speech Al! A battleโ€™s just a fight you canโ€™t lose!ใ€

ใ€ŒI guess youโ€™re right.ใ€

At least, the purpose was to find out who was summoning all those nature spirits.

However, Cruz was upset because the magicianโ€™s guild had made a fool of Steff.

I know how she felt.

I told Steff, Millet, and Collette,

ใ€ŒTake it easy. If a strong magician tries to fight you, Iโ€™ll step in.ใ€

ใ€ŒThatโ€™s a relief.ใ€

ใ€ŒI donโ€™t think you need to fight either, Millet and Collette, so just relax.ใ€

ใ€ŒWe can fight if you need us!ใ€

ใ€ŒIโ€™m justht going to have fun watching Sthteff do her thing!ใ€

Steff and Millet were both a bit nervous though.

I could tell Steff was especially rattled.

I understood, because it was before a battle. You had to get used to it.

However, Collette wasnโ€™t worried at all.

She was a strange child. Well, maybe because she was a child, sheโ€™s never known fear.

I looked at Steff, who was the most scared of all,

ใ€ŒIf you donโ€™t see me step in, you know the magicianโ€™s not that strong, so just relax.ใ€

ใ€ŒI understand.ใ€

ใ€ŒAnd if heโ€™s not super strong, you can beat him.ใ€

ใ€ŒOkay.ใ€

She looked a bit relieved.

Then I looked at Millet and Collette.

ใ€ŒAnd I just need you two to relax and stay back.ใ€

ใ€ŒWeโ€™ll trust you more than our own strength. Even so, if we fight, Iโ€™m not scared, Mister Al!ใ€

ใ€ŒThanks for trusting me.ใ€

ใ€ŒItโ€™s...my pleasure...ใ€

Millet blushed.

ใ€ŒIโ€™ll take it easy too, old man!ใ€

Collette smiled at me, as she wasnโ€™t worried at all.

ใ€ŒWell, Iโ€™ll just try to hold back...like a parent whoโ€™s not going to use force between two kids fighting.ใ€

ใ€ŒItโ€™s better if you just kick the guyโ€™s butt, Al.ใ€

ใ€ŒThatโ€™s a bit childish, Vi-Vi.ใ€

ใ€ŒNo itโ€™s NOT! I could fight the guy too!ใ€

Vi-Vi said.

However, Vi-Viโ€™s not a fighting type of magician.

Iโ€™d actually think she has less ability than Millet or Collette.

But if I ever said so, Iโ€™m sure that Vi-Vi would get bent out of shape.

ใ€ŒIโ€™d step in before you would, Vi-Vi.ใ€

ใ€ŒWhy, Al?ใ€

ใ€ŒBecause youโ€™re a devil, and one of the four Sub-bosses. If they lost to you, theyโ€™d get pissed and want revenge.ใ€

ใ€ŒI guess youโ€™re right...ใ€

Hearing that, Timi said,

ใ€ŒI can fight too.ใ€

ใ€ŒI told you, Timi, if you fought, the whole capital would be burned to ashes, just leave it to me.ใ€

ใ€ŒI can hold back if I need to...but, Iโ€™ll let you handle it.ใ€

ใ€ŒThanks.ใ€

Next, I looked at Femm and Moofy.

ใ€ŒWuff?ใ€

ใ€ŒMoo?ใ€

ใ€ŒI know you know already, but just keep back and stay quiet.ใ€

ใ€ŽI know.ใ€

ใ€ŽMe know.ใ€

ใ€ŒYou canโ€™t fight, and donโ€™t freak out, no matter what.ใ€

ใ€ŽOkaaaaaay.ใ€

ใ€ŽI no fight.ใ€

Femm and Moofy both huffed. I was worried they might try something.

ใ€ŒVi-Vi, Timi, take care of the beasts, okay?ใ€

ใ€ŒSure.ใ€

ใ€ŒGot it.ใ€

Cruz was listening quietly, and nodded,

ใ€ŒLetโ€™s go then.ใ€

ใ€ŒOkay.ใ€

Cruz opened the door to the guild, and we walked in.

Two masked weirdos with two beasts...we stuck out like sore thumbs.

Every pair of eyes in the guild turned to us. Even the receptionist looked rattled.

The strong looking guy behind the receptionist came out to meet us.

He must have been the office chief or something like that.

ใ€ŒHello, Marquis Conradine! Itโ€™s been a while.ใ€

ใ€ŒIโ€™m sorry for keeping you waiting. Youโ€™re the office head, right?ใ€

ใ€ŒYou remember well, miss! Iโ€™m honored.ใ€

Not the office chief, but the office head.

Six or a half dozen of the other.

ใ€ŒI was thinking of coming earlier, but I was busy.ใ€

ใ€ŒOh...well, your realm is an important one. You must be very busy. Our little guild could provide someone possibly that could speed whatever process necessary up for you?ใ€

The guy was trying to sell the guildโ€™s services to her.

Cruz had a knowing smile, and said,

ใ€ŒIโ€™ve come here today to prove that my magicians are better than ANY magician in the magicianโ€™s guild.ใ€

ใ€ŒUm...you mean...ใ€ ๐‘“๐‘Ÿeโ„ฏ๐’˜๐—ฒ๐‘n๐‘œ๐šŸ๐™š๐’.๐’„o๐ฆ

The office head had lost his head for a bit.

They were fighting words, after all, Cruz had left for a bit to make preparations.

Or maybe the fellow had thought that Cruz had simply forgotten.

ใ€ŒI made a promise. That my magician would face yours.ใ€

ใ€ŒBut, marquis...ใ€

The office head looked troubled. He glanced at me.

It was proceeding as planned.

Cruz and I had talked about how we would get the challenge to happen without being refused.

So just like we had planned, I turned to the office head and said,

ใ€ŒI would say that this fellow doesnโ€™t have to fight, but if youโ€™ve promised him, marquis...ใ€

ใ€Œ...and I always keep my promises!ใ€

ใ€ŒThen, there must be a battle...ใ€

The office head then thought I might be an ally, or maybe could help him in some way.

ใ€ŒThe marquis said the magicians in this guild are just prideful small-fries after all, and thereโ€™s no way theyโ€™ll accept her challenge...ใ€

ใ€ŒW...whatโ€™s that?!ใ€

ใ€ŒI donโ€™t think that anymore, but...ใ€

ใ€ŒWell, itโ€™s a shame, marquis. You have a keen insight. Any excuse to prevent the guild from defeating your magician...ใ€

The office head said with a smile on his face as Cruz interrupted him,

ใ€ŒI was told that the magicianโ€™s guild could be beaten by anyone in less than five minutes...ใ€

ใ€Œ...five minutes? What do you mean?ใ€

ใ€ŒAnd Iโ€™ve heard that anyone could beat the guild in less than three.ใ€I said.

ใ€Œ...ใ€

I was fanning the flames, and the office head was at a loss for words.

ใ€ŒSo, letโ€™s make a bet. I say three minutes, the marquis says five.ใ€

ใ€ŒI say two.ใ€Timi said.

ใ€ŒAnd I say one.ใ€Vi-Vi said.

Even though Timi and Vi-Vi werenโ€™t involved, they still followed up with even shorter times.

ใ€ŒSince we want to see how long youโ€™d last in battle, letโ€™s fight.ใ€

Cruz said, with a smile all over her face.
