Liwu shook her head, groaning in the process. The man with the loud voice had landed on her feet, almost crushing them.

[+30 points: Someone else falling.]
Through the joyful chiming of the system, Liwu continued to hear the wife screaming. And then, Weijun was on her, grabbing her hands and yelling "Dammit, why did you rush in like that? Don’t stand there Linlin, call for an ambulance. Her fingers are on the floor."
Liwu pulled her hand from his grasp and waved them both in the air. "I don’t know what fingers you are talking about but they are not mine!"
She wanted to say more but the wife was wailing, sword raised dramatically. "I knew it! I knew it! You loser, what did you do?"
The woman’s husband looked lost.
Linlin bent down. squinting. There were fingers on the floor, three of them. "They don’t look fresh, so I guess they do not belong to anyone else." Her eyes flicked to a cardboard box that had been turned over.
Sure enough, the fingers had fallen out it. It was the kind of box used for deliveries and there was a label on the top which read: Movie Props.
Liwu shook her head. "This is real blood, these are not props."
Weijun grimaced. "Your bad luck strikes again. A domestic dispute had turned into severed fingers." He pulled her off the floor and grumbled, "Why do these things keep happening to you?"
Liwu pushed his aside and got her handcuffs out. "Okay, everyone is going back to the precinct."
The couple was arrested and the fingers and cardboard box were taken. The apartment was sealed off temporarily. As they marched the couple into the elevator, the husband protested his innocence: loudly!
"I AM AN INNOCENT MAN. IF ANYONE HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH SEVERED FINGERS, ASK THE SWORD WIELDING MANIAC."
Everyone winced.
"Use your inner voice or I am going to shoot you with a serum that temporarily seals your voice." Liwu warned him.
He opened his mouth to protest. Liwu shot him with the serum immediately.
"Is this legal?" Weijun asked, astounded.
Linlin smiled, holding on to the trembling wife that was muttering about her cursed life. "Arresting a system host is different from arresting an ordinary person. We have to take measures that render them temporarily unable to use their abilities."
The serum worked like a charm because the man’s voice was not heard again, until they reached the precinct where a frustrated chief was waiting.
"Let me get this straight." He said, pinching his nose the moment they walked out of the elevator. "You responded to a domestic violence call. The wife had a sword. The husband was bellowing louder than a loud speaker at a subway. Liwu fell and she found severed fingers in a package?"
Liwu smiled sheepishly. "Bad luck sir, I apologize."
Chief Abby sighed. "I should have rejected that transfer but your mother wants you under my watchful eye. Maybe I should assign you to desk duty."
"It won’t stop bad things from happening Sir." Liwu replied.
Chief Abby sighed again. "Find out where the fingers came from."
Linlin went to the break room and Liwu walked to her office to grab a pen and notebook. Weijun followed her like a faithful toddler with questions. "I was under the impression that you only investigate robberies and homicides. This is neither a robbery nor a homicide so why are you being assigned to it?"
She turned around, contemplating whether it was necessary to respond to him. It just seemed so much easier to blow him off or ignore him. But, the truth was that he was not going anywhere. She was stuck with him until her mother kicked him out!
"Severed fingers could mean there is someone out there bleeding out or a dead body we have not discovered." She took in a small breath. "I don’t work for robbery homicide, I work for the Priority Investigation Team of the Bureau or PIT.
We handle emergency cases involving system hosts, the kind of cases that end up on the front page of every newspaper. So, violent system host, sword wielding poor ordinary battered wife and severed fingers is the kind of case we consider a priority."
Weijun scribbled a note into his own notebook and followed her to the interrogation room. Just before they could enter, Liwu paused and grabbed his shirt collar. "Do not say a word in there. You are not a police officer, you are an observer. So, sit the fruit still and stay quiet. Do I make myself clear?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
It wasn’t a request. It was an order. Her fiery eyes said so and promised ruthlessness if she was not obeyed.
Weijun made a mock salute. "Yes ma’am."
His lips curled into an involuntary smile. He had spent his life giving orders and looming over everyone else. The sudden reversal was...electrifying. He felt his chest tighten with a strange thrill.
He followed her obediently and sat down, glancing at her through the corners of his eyes like a schoolboy in class who wanted a bite of some candy.
And then it hit him ’he liked it.’
Liwu pushed the metallic chair back with her foot and sat down. There was something magnetic about her presence in the small interrogation room. It was like she owned it, like she was in complete control here.
Weijun thought, She’s dangerous. She’s clumsy. Somehow, she is a combination of both and she’s incredible.
Liwu looked at her smart watch and then the man. All his details had been sent in and the interrogation could begin. "Xie Siyan, how many times in a day do you use your system enhanced voice to bellow at your wife?"
Xie Siyan, blinked. It was not the question he was expecting. He was not alone, Weijun was also caught off guard. Who cared about the screaming matches when they had severed fingers?
Weijun opened his mouth to ask Siyan directly. But, he had agreed to sit still and not say a word. If he asked a question, Liwu was likely to throw him out of the interrogation room. So, he pinched papers from a page in his notebook, hoping to calm himself.
"I don’t know." Siyan answered with a groan, his bellowing ability still gone. "Look, Sisi can be annoying. She starts the fights all the time by provoking me and when I retaliate, I am the bad guy."
Liwu tapped the table with her knuckles, sharp enough to make Siyan flinch. "You gave her a black eye."
"She was trying to cut my balls off with a bloody sword!" Siyan bellowed. "What would you have done if you were me?"
