The Swapped Master's Bride And Her Bad Luck System.-Chapter 66: So much hatred.
Liwu unleashed her bat swiftly and Linlin’s gun made an appearance. One of the windows clashed and a drone dove inside. It was armed and turned on the bodyguards.
"Your move." Liwu challenged.
The air was tense, and everyone was still, as if they were frozen in time. But their eyes were working overtime, moving from one end of the room to another and then the drone.
Weijun stepped up first, hoping to break the tension. "I suggest everyone calm down. We already have one dead body on the grounds, we don’t need to bury more Dou’s today." He was sure that neither Liwu nor Linlin would be harmed if the drone fired.
But he was not so sure about himself!
Liwu sneered, "Send your dogs out Mr. Dou."
"You told me to put the best detectives on it and these are the best." Weijun said. "Let them do their jobs and we can put this behind us."
Patriarch Dou waved his hand. The bodyguards left swiftly and closed the door. The drone remained where it was, with no sign of leaving any time soon.
"Now, let’s talk." Liwu said coldly. "Mr. Dou, you amended your will recently, was this related to your daughter and her charity activities? We know she was drawing money from the company to support her empire of kindness."
The Dou siblings were stunned, as was Mrs. Dou.
"The sooner you tell us what you changed in connection to your daughter, the sooner we will be out of your hair." Linlin told him.
Patriarch Dou gripped his cane. He looked like a man that would rather have his teeth pulled out than reveal what he had done.
"Father, what did you do?" Dou Chong screamed.
Patriarch Dou shifted, seeming uncomfortable. "Yes, I changed my will to include her. I will be or was leaving her some money, six billion in total. The condition was that she use it in her charities but all credit goes to the company. It is not related to her murder in any way."
"Unless one of them found out and killed her for it." Linlin gestured to the other siblings.
Five voices rose at once, denials and insults hurled at the detectives. Liwu and Linlin studied their reactions. From the look of it, the siblings were not aware of the changes to the will and they were all unhappy about it.
Liwu waited for the emotions to dies down and then she asked her next question. "Dou Chong, you had a fight with your sister because she did not want to endorse your cars anymore. Why?"
Dou Cong scoffed. "Because she was a bitch."
Dachang gasped.
"She was blackmailing me." Dou Chong bellowed with anger. "She was starting a new charity and she needed the funds to come from somewhere. She found out that I was in talks with a system host that could tune the current batteries we are using to smart ones." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"That is illegal." Linlin jumped in.
Dou Chong gave her a dry smile. "Now you know why the bitch was blackmailing me. She wanted three hundred million for her silence." He scoffed again. "She said no money, no endorsement and worse, she would turn me in."
Weijun raised his eyebrows. Had Dou Chong realized that he had just provided a motive for the murder.
As if he knew this too, Dou Chong shouted loudly, "If you are thinking that I killed her because of that, you are wrong. Check my accounts, I wired her the money two days ago. Why would I pay her off if I was going to kill her? And don’t bother arresting me for the smart batteries because I was just doing research and that is not illegal."
Liwu nodded. "Okay," she turned her head to Dawei. "You owe a lot of money to a bookie. Your sister always always bailed you out but she rejected you this time. Were you angry about that?"
Dawei smirked. "Yes, she refused to bail me out of debt and I was pissed. Said she was tired of saving me and I had to ’earn my way.’ Can you imagine? Me, earning? Anyway, I knew Chong had given her money so I was planning to go to church with her this weekend and prove I was ready for redemption. Then, she would pay my debt. I had no reason to kill her."
Linlin scribbled in her notebook: Dawei = allergic to work.
Mrs. Dou sniffed. "Can we stop this already? We did not kill her."
Liwu looked at her, tapping her notebook impatiently, "We know you had issues with her charity work and faith. How much did she clash with this family over these issues."
Mrs. Dou wiped her tears. "She wasted money on strangers, millions of our hard earned money. Embarrassing, really. She did not have a job. If she wanted to give away money that much, she should have given out her own, not ours. Charity is for appearances, not passion." She stood up and walked to the window, stepping over the glass. "And she acted like we were all sinners just because we did not share her faith. She was always judging us."
Sanniang snorted. "After everything she did, she thought we were the sinners! She slept with almost all of Chong’s friends in her wild years. Did you know that?"
"Shut up." Dou Chong snapped at Sanniang.
Liwu shook her head. There was a lot of anger in this family. A lot of motives to kill the victim.
"None of that matters." Dachang screamed. "She changed. Maybe she could push to achieve her goal at times but she was not a bad person. She was passionate about her faith, that is not a crime."
Mr. Dou snapped impatiently, "Is this why you came here detectives? I am sick of this. We told you were we were at her time of death. I asked for the best detectives because I wanted her killer found and that killer is not under this roof. Go out and do your actual job instead of wasting our time."
Linlin finally tossed the name of the suspect into the ring. "Does any of you know a Pei Wu?"
"That loser!" Dawei sat up. "He was a creep, although Yahui did not see that. In her eyes, he was just another one of her charity cases. You should have seen her when he converted to Catholicism, she was excited. She was his godmother at his baptism. I remember that day clearly because I...." He looked at his parents and shut up.
Everyone could see that he had done something his parents would not approve of on that day.
Liwu focused on him. "Did she tell you or anyone that she was afraid of him?"
He shook his head. "All I know is that the kid was bad news. Drug addicts and poor people always are." He pointed to the door. "I need a scotch."
The rest of the family did not know Pei Wu and they had never heard of him. One by one, the Dou’s walked out. Patriarch Dou was the last and he made sure Liwu and Linlin did not stay in his office.
"I will send the Bureau a bill for the window," he said, before walking away.
Weijun walked Liwu and Linlin out, all the way to the car. He seemed to want them as far away from the Dou mansion as much as the patriarch himself.
