The Sweetness of the Seventies-Chapter 1131 - 1100 Grandma Ma
Chapter 1131: Chapter 1100 Grandma Ma
Xu Weiwei was very pretty, tall with fair skin and large eyes. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to garner some fame in the entertainment circle at such a young age through singing.
Entering the entertainment industry was partly for making money and partly for revenge.
However, deep in Xu Weiwei’s heart, she was more interested in Grandma Ma’s mysterious secret techniques.
Alas, as Grandma Ma was unwilling to teach her, Xu Weiwei felt quite disappointed.
From a distance, Xu Weiwei saw Grandma Ma watering the vegetable garden, wearing an old straw hat, her body more hunched than the last time.
"Grandma Ma, Grandma Ma, Weiwei is here to see you," Xu Weiwei called out crisply, carrying things and hurrying over.
Grandma Ma put down her watering can, raised her head, and saw Xu Weiwei running towards her.
Upon seeing Xu Weiwei, Grandma Ma smiled. She had lived her whole life without children, and never expected to have such a well-behaved girl by her side, showing filial respect in her old age.
"Take it easy, don’t fall," Grandma Ma chuckled, her voice was somewhat hoarse, but calm.
"Ah, Grandma, Weiwei is here to see you. Let’s go back home quickly, I will water the garden for you later," said an old man nearby with a chuckle, hoping that Grandma Ma and Xu Weiwei would enjoy their time together as Xu Weiwei rarely visited.
"No need, I can go back once I finish watering with this bucket," Grandma Ma said with a smile, waiting for Xu Weiwei to come over while continuing to water.
By the time Xu Weiwei reached Grandma Ma’s side, the watering was done.
"Seventh Uncle, we’re heading back home," Xu Weiwei said, carrying a bucket in one hand and some items from her house in the other, as she bid farewell to the neighbor, Seventh Uncle.
"Go ahead, I’ll pick a watermelon for you two and send it over later," Seventh Uncle said with a laugh, it was common in their neighborhood to share the produce from their fields.
"Thank you so much, Seventh Uncle," Xu Weiwei said gratefully as she walked home with Grandma Ma.
Grandma Ma lived in a two-story building at the end of the village, which used to be the residence of Xu Weiwei and her mother. Now Grandma Ma lived there.
"Weiwei, how come you have time to come over?" asked Grandma Ma. She had heard that Xu Weiwei was now a somewhat famous singer, so she must be very busy attending various programs.
Xu Weiwei smiled and said, "Grandma, no matter how busy I get, I must come to see you often! When I’m feeling down, seeing you cheers me up."
Hearing this, Grandma Ma looked at Xu Weiwei and asked, "What’s the matter? Why are you unhappy?"
"It’s nothing..." Xu Weiwei replied, "Oh, Grandma, I brought lots of tasty things, and I also bought you a new outfit. Let’s go home and try it on, shall we see if it looks good?"
Seeing that Xu Weiwei didn’t elaborate, Grandma Ma could only temporarily suppress her curiosity.
Once they got home, Xu Weiwei quickly drew water for Grandma Ma to wash up, then took out a blue outfit from her bag and said, "Grandma, try this on. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll go and exchange it."
"This color is beautiful, I’ll go inside and change," Grandma Ma said with a smile, taking the clothes and going indoors.
As Xu Weiwei watched Grandma Ma enter the house to change clothes and saw the door close, the smile on her face vanished, replaced by a look of bewilderment and struggle.
But then, thinking of the blood vendetta mentioned in her father’s letter, Xu Weiwei’s expression cleared once again.
I can’t be soft-hearted, if I can’t avenge my father, he won’t rest in peace, and my mother will live in regret forever.
"It fits well, and I really like it. Does it look good?" Grandma Ma came out of the house, raised her arm, and asked Xu Weiwei to take a look.
Xu Weiwei smiled and said, "Hehe, it looks really nice, Grandma Ma. You look ten years younger."
"Hehe, you always say the sweetest things," Grandma Ma laughed and said, "Alright, you rest for a while, I’ll go cook some stewed chicken. Those chickens are raised by me, they taste particularly good."
"Thank you, Grandma Ma," Xu Weiwei gratefully said, "You cook, I’ll help you tidy up the house."
"You are such a diligent girl," Grandma Ma praised, and then went to slaughter the chickens and gut the fish.
Xu Weiwei did not sit idle either, she took a rag and helped Grandma Ma clean the house and tidy up the yard.
In a corner of the yard, Xu Weiwei saw some small jars, cages, and the like.
Just as Xu Weiwei was about to step forward and clean, Grandma Ma called out from not far away, "Weiwei, no need to deal with that, it’s poisonous. It would be bad if it bit you."
Those were items needed by Grandma Ma to cultivate Gu Insects; she had taught Xu Weiwei some basics before but had not taught her the more advanced techniques, so Xu Weiwei didn’t know how to handle these items.
"Grandma Ma, you can teach me, so then I can help you with these tasks," Xu Weiwei pleaded, wanting to learn these things.
She wouldn’t use them to take lives recklessly but wanted to use them for revenge and wouldn’t indiscriminately kill the innocent.
Grandma Ma looked at Xu Weiwei with a meaningful expression and said with a bitter smile, "Weiwei, my past life might have seemed impressive, but it was actually fraught with danger. I just hope you can live safely and healthily. I do not wish for you to learn these things and get involved in troubles."
Xu Weiwei lowered her head and said, "Grandma Ma, I actually want to learn these things, I feel they would be useful to me."
"I’ve used snake gall to take care of your throat; your singing career is going well now. Why would you want to get involved with these filthy things?" Grandma Ma countered, reluctant to take on an apprentice, she didn’t want her secret techniques passed on, potentially endangering lives.
Xu Weiwei lifted her head, her face by then streaming with tears.
"Grandma Ma, I know you want what’s best for me, but my father and my family were persecuted to death. As his daughter, I want to avenge my father," Xu Weiwei said. In her heart, from her mother’s words, Xu Weiwei didn’t know she was an illegitimate daughter; instead, she believed it meant something else — that her father had sent her and her mother to Xiangjiang to protect her.
Because of this, Xu Weiwei wanted to seek revenge for her father.
Upon hearing this, Grandma Ma’s face showed bitterness and said, "Hatred can blind a person. If I advise you to let go of the hatred, you certainly won’t listen." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Yes, my father was such a pitiable man," Xu Weiwei said. "He was such a good person, and now he can’t rest easy. As his daughter, I can’t forget the hatred."
"Ah!" Grandma Ma sighed, continuing to clean the chicken feathers from her hands.
Xu Weiwei walked over to Grandma Ma, looking at her pitifully, like a pathetic little girl.
Grandma Ma, unsettled by Xu Weiwei’s gaze, finally gave in and said, "Alright, let me think about this issue."
"Thank you, Grandma Ma," Xu Weiwei said excitedly, feeling hopeful that there might be a chance.
Xu Weiwei wiped her tears and helped Grandma Ma with butchering the chickens and the fish, and took the opportunity to clean up inside and out while Grandma Ma was cooking.
