Chapter 86: The Mist Beast’s Weakness

He didn’t have much time to be surprised, though, as the beast was already in front of him, with its paw slashing towards his chest.

He was able to turn his body at the last moment, narrowly avoiding a fatal strike. However, he didn’t escape injury as the paw still struck him in his side, leaving a deep wound.

The impact of the attack sent him flying as he crashed into the wall of the room.

The one-armed man groaned as he slumped against the stone wall, a trail of blood marking his arc across the room. His sword clattered from his grip.

He clutched his side with a trembling hand, teeth clenched to keep from screaming. The beast’s claws had torn through flesh and cracked bone.

The feline beast lunged for him once more, trying to finish him off. However, before it could reach him, Julian appeared before it, his blade flashing as he intercepted the misty feline mid-charge.

The blade met the beast’s shoulder and passed through it again.

"Shit," Julian muttered, jumping back. Because it wasn’t expecting Julian’s attack, Julian was able to narrowly avoid getting injured as the creature’s paw swept at his midsection.

He parried a sweeping claw aimed at his head. Though his sword didn’t strike solid flesh, the effort still disrupted the mist slightly. It reformed a moment later, but Julian was able to take note of the delay.

The beast was relentless. It charged straight at Julian once again. It had already locked onto him as the primary target.

Julian managed to escape once again as he ducked low and rolled, causing the beast’s translucent claws to skim the air where his head had been.

He came up on one knee, planting his sword into the stone floor to brace himself, his chest heaving up and down. The battle had just started, yet he was already tired.

The beast skidded on the stone, claws carving shallow gouges as it turned with an eerie grace.

However, Julian wasn’t fighting alone. The others charged at the beast simultaneously, effectively halting its charge.

The remaining four members of the team attacked simultaneously, all of them attacking various points of the beast.

Two of them aimed for the head, while the others targeted the body. However, the same thing happened once again. All their weapons passed through the beast not dealing any damage to it.

The beast let out a roar that caused all of them to feel threatened. They all jumped back, but it was too late.

The beast lunged towards them, before slashing towards them with its paw. The first one to get attacked was one of the men aiming for the beast’s head.

The claws came towards his chest, and he hurriedly placed his sword in front of him in order to defend himself.

However, like before, his weapon seemed useless. The paw simply bypassed the sword, landing squarely on the man’s chest.

The man was sent flying across the room, his life or death uncertain. Unlike a normal beast, the mist feline didn’t chase after him in order to finish the job.

Instead, it turned its attention towards another member of the group. This time, it tried to bite off the head of another person.

The man’s face turned pale when he saw the beast turn its attention towards him. Before he could call for help, the beast was already in his face.

He had no choice but to use his sword to block as well, despite knowing the futility of it. He closed his eyes, expecting his head to be torn off.

However, the familiar pain did not come. The force of the beast crashing into him sent him flying, but he was able to block it.

Julian, who saw this interaction, had his eyes widen. Being a shrewd individual, he immediately noticed what the man did differently.

Unlike the others who had been fighting the beast with only their weapons, the man actually infused his Qi into his sword.

This simple action saved him from having his head bitten off. The others who were also paying attention also noticed this.

Without hesitation, they all immediately infused their weapons with their Qi. The first one to do so was Julian. He immediately channeled his Qi before sending out an attack.

"Wind Blade!" He muttered to himself while slashing his sword downwards. A blade made of wind Qi was sent out of his sword and landed on the body of the mist beast.

This time, there was a change in the situation. Because it was a beast made of mist, it couldn’t bleed. However, when the wind blade struck its body, the mist that was made of its body seemed to be destabilized a little bit.

Its body shook for a split second before it became normal again. However, this momentary disturbance was noticed by all of them.

Their eyes lit up as they finally found a way to defeat this beast.

"Use your martial skills!" Julian yelled towards the members of the group. The others simply nodded before sending out their own attacks towards the mist beast. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Flowing River Slash!"

"Stone Cleaver Strike!"

"Blazing arc Slash!"

Three Silver rank martial skills flew towards the mist beast. However, the mist beast wasn’t a statue. It wasn’t going to stand there and allow them to hit it.

The three cultivators had already expected this, which was why they attacked together. The mist beast sprang to the side, its feline body flowing unnaturally as it dodged the incoming attacks.

The Flowing River Slash sliced through its hind legs, dispersing a chunk of its mist, but only slightly. Its form became unstable as its body seemed to have reduced in size.

The Stone Cleaver Strike hit the ground where it had just stood, cracking the floor and shaking the room. Blazing Arc Slash singed the edge of the beast’s tail, evaporating part of the mist into the air with a hiss.

The mist beast snarled, not from pain, its body was made of mist, so that was impossible. If one didn’t know better, they would think it was frustrated. That was how its snarl sounded to Julian’s ears.

It charged again at its foes, this time towards the man who unleashed the "Blazing arc Slash!".

Before it could get close to him, Julian leapt into the air. Wind coiled around him like an invisible serpent. His eyes locked onto the beast’s head.

"Gale Edge!"

His sword cleaved downward, a blade of condensed wind slicing through the air. The mist beast howled as the wind blade passed through its neck, causing its entire upper body to ripple like a disturbed pond. Its eyes dimmed for a moment, flickering like dying embers.

This was the power of his top-grade Gold rank martial skill. Its power far surpassed the previous one that he had used.

The Richards family was still a large family, with considerable power and influence. However, they couldn’t even afford to give a junior a top-grade Gold rank martial skill.

The ’Gale Edge’ was something that Julian had gotten from the sect when he became the first rank outer disciple.

A Golden Core realm cultivator having two Gold rank martial skills was considered affluent. Most rogue cultivators in the Golden Core realm didn’t even possess one.

Since Julian was the young master of the Richards family, he had a considerable advantage over his peers in the sect. In fact, he had already started cultivating the first Gold rank martial skill, long before he became the first rank outer disciple.

It was with his power that he was able to snatch that title from the previous holder and receive a reward from the sect.

Now with two Gold rank martial skills, there was hardly anyone among his peers who could challenge him.

The power of the top-grade Gold rank martial skill was evident for all to see. The blade of condensed wind sliced through the beast’s head, cleaving its whole body into two.

The mist that made up the beast started vibrating, as the body structure started breaking down.

It looked like it wanted to join back together. Just as the two halves were showing signs of coming together once again, the remaining three members took action once again.

They bombarded the beast with their martial skills again. They didn’t have enough Qi to use their Silver rank martial skill again, so they resorted to using their Bronze rank martial skills.

Normally, these skills wouldn’t have been able to even touch the mist beast, but it was currently not in optimal condition.

Unlike a normal beast at the peak of rank 3, the mist beast had a glaring weakness. It had virtually no defence. As long as it was attacked using attacks infused with Qi, one would eventually be able to defeat it.

That is, if you could stay alive that long before it tears your head off. Due to its form being unstable, the attack from the rest of the group was able to land, slicing its body into different pieces.

Before, if it was hit with attacks of this calibre, its body would just shrink slightly, indicating that it had taken damage. But now, its body was already in different parts and was struggling to form once again.

Finally, the mist beast couldn’t take it anymore, it let out a strange, almost mournful howl, before its whole body completely dissipated.
