Chapter 75: Chapter 75: The Monroe Family

Ian realized he hadn’t visited the Monroe Family since he and Maya got married, which did indeed make him somewhat negligent.

At first, he didn’t like Maya and naturally didn’t care about her affairs or her family’s affairs. But recently...

Ian’s desire to visit the Monroe Family grew stronger because of Maya’s words.

"I’ll go a few more times and then I won’t be a stranger. Get in the car."

You want to go a few more times? Did he not hear a word I just said?

Maya got into the car, covering her face to hide her almost twisted mouth from anger.

The drive was mostly silent. Ian wasn’t talkative, and Maya, feeling upset, didn’t want to speak either, while Vincent suddenly became quiet for some reason.

Vincent drove ahead, occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror to check the situation in the back.

Not being able to speak freely as he used to was quite dull, but he kept thinking about what Ian said recently.

Showing sudden respect to Maya seemed unlikely, but keeping his mouth shut and not arguing with her for now wasn’t particularly difficult.

The Monroe home was also in a wealthy neighborhood, and their house had reportedly been passed down for several generations.

Before getting out of the car, Maya sent a message to her mom, saying she was almost there.

Her mom replied almost instantly, saying she was waiting at home.

Maya responded with an "Okay" and then got out of the car with Ian.

Vincent drove off again, not planning to wait for Maya and Ian to come out. He left with a final word, saying the vase had already been delivered to the Monroe home.

The door was opened by Kiki, dressed in her usual pure style, with an always tender and innocent expression on her face.

"M... sister, why, why are you here?"

"This is my home, what do you think?"

Kiki pursed her lips, but her attitude changed upon seeing Ian behind Maya: "Ah, so you came with brother-in-law, please come in, please!"

"I didn’t expect your grades weren’t that great, but you’re quite good at flipping books." Maya shot her a glance.

Kiki didn’t grasp the meaning of the words immediately, and once she did, her whole face turned green, struggling to maintain her smile.

"Is Maya back?"

Monica heard the voices and walked towards the door from the living room, excited upon seeing Maya. Jasper also came over.

Monica hugged Maya tightly, almost tearing up: "My precious baby, finally you’re back, finally you’re back... It’s good you’re back, just good you’re back..."

Jasper, with his gentle and polite demeanor, was filled with emotion too.

Maya felt temporarily at a loss. In her modern life, her mom passed away when she was eighteen due to illness, and her father was a strict and cold man. She couldn’t recall how long it had been since she felt anything like this. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

She momentarily forgot to react.

The original parents doted on the original Maya. In the storyline, although Jasper and Monica were extremely disappointed in her, they never forgot to care for her. Still, the original Maya was ungrateful, believing they favored Kiki and didn’t truly consider her their daughter. As the original character said, "I’d rather beg on the streets than beg at the Monroe house!"

Jasper smiled and said, "Alright, Maya probably wants to rest for a bit, let her sit down quickly."

Kiki watched the warm scene with a sensation like a needle pricking her heart.

Since she returned, the Monroe Family treated her like a treasure, but Kiki always felt it wasn’t enough. She thought Jasper and Monica were only compensating out of guilt, and their kindness towards her was nothing compared to their treatment of Maya. Maya was their precious, doted-upon child, while she, Kiki, felt like an unnoticed weed.

Why? Clearly, she deserved these things... No, she deserved even more than Maya did.

Jasper was surprised to see Ian and stepped forward a few steps, extending his hand: "Mr. Rowe..." This was the first time Jasper met him since Ian and Maya got married.

Calling him Mr. Rowe felt inappropriate, but using something else might upset Ian.

Ian shook his hand: "Hello, Uncle, just call me Ian from now on."

Jasper was somewhat puzzled by the change in front of him: "Was that antique vase also from you?"

"I hope you like it, Uncle."

Ian exuded a humble demeanor, which was vastly different from what Jasper had known. During the Monroe family’s heyday, Jasper had met Ian a few times; though he had a calm and gentle smile, his eyes often flashed with a fierce light.

Jasper knew Ian wasn’t a simple character, nor a humble person. As polite as he appeared, his innate arrogance was impossible to hide.

But at this moment, Jasper could sense Ian’s sincerity and authenticity.

"I certainly like the gift you gave. Ian, don’t just stand here, come in and sit." Jasper, being a smart man, soon spoke up with a laugh.

On the other side, Maya was pulled to the sofa by Monica: "Let me take a closer look, and see if my precious Maya has gotten a little chubby."

Maya felt uneasy. When she saw it on her phone, it didn’t seem like much, but now she felt an inexplicable sense of shame.

"You usually say you’re so busy with work, I don’t even dare to message you or your dad..."

After the original character got married, she suddenly began to resent Monica’s daily messages of concern. She claimed to be busy with work, which made Jasper and Monica hesitant to send messages for fear of hindering her work. If asked to come home, her only response was that she was busy.

Jasper and Monica, overindulging the original Maya, would agree to whatever she wanted if she expressed displeasure. They missed her so much but dared not call or message her for fear of provoking her annoyance.

Monica gently stroked Maya’s fair cheek and smiled: "Finally, you washed off that makeup. My precious Maya is naturally beautiful and doesn’t need smoky makeup at all."

Monica scrutinized her more closely, perceiving significant changes in her daughter’s manner; her usual bratty demeanor seemed to have faded away.

The more Monica looked, the happier she felt; her daughter had finally grown up.

Kiki brought a cup of tea to Maya, barely hiding her bubbling anger inside.

Here it was again! No matter how outstanding and excellent she was, in Jasper and Monica’s eyes, she could never surpass Maya. Even if Maya were garbage, they’d still treat garbage like a cherished treasure!

Kiki smiled: "Sister, have some tea, I made it myself."
