Chapter 57: Special

Scarlett’s POV

I didn’t answer. I didn’t want to discuss my bloodline or my rarity while pinned under him like prey.

Instead, I focused on the heat of his body, the way his fur felt against mine, and forced the shift. My bones cracked and shivered as I returned to my human form, lying naked and vulnerable on the forest floor.

Leon followed suit instantly. He shifted back, his heavy, human weight still pressing me down into the dirt and leaves. He didn’t move away. He stayed right there, his chest heaving against mine, his hands coming up to cup my face with a gentleness that felt completely at odds with the chase.

"Why didn’t you say it?" he breathed, his eyes searching mine. "Why didn’t you tell us?"

I knew exactly what he meant. Red wolves were myths made flesh. They were rare, one in a million, whispered to be a sign of ancient, powerful blood—just as rare and sacred as the legendary white wolf. Having a red wolf didn’t just mean I was a shifter; it meant I carried a legacy that the pack hadn’t seen in centuries.

"Tell you?" I whispered, my voice trembling as I looked up at him. "So you could use me? No, Leon. I don’t even know why I have it."

His grip on my face tightened slightly, his thumb brushing over my cheekbone. He looked like he was seeing me for the very first time, the "traitor’s daughter" mask completely stripped away to reveal something he was clearly terrified to lose.

"You have to see a seer," Leon said, his voice dropping into that commanding tone that usually made everyone in the pack fall in line. "This isn’t just about you anymore, Scarlett. It’s an omen. You need answers."

"I don’t want to see anyone!" I snapped, my voice echoing through the trees. I struggled beneath him, my hands pushing against his hard, sweat-slicked shoulders. "I don’t want to be an omen, and I don’t want to be a miracle. I just want to be left alone. Now, get off me, Leon!"

He didn’t budge. If anything, he pressed closer, his heavy thighs pinning mine into the soft earth. "You need to," he insisted, his eyes searching mine with a desperate intensity. "At least to know where you come from. To know why the Goddess chose you for this. Do you have any idea what the other packs would do if they found out what you are?"

"I don’t care!" I yelled, the frustration of the last two years finally boiling over. I stopped struggling and just glared at him, my chest heaving against his. "Why do you suddenly care about what the Goddess wants for me? You didn’t care when I was scrubbing your floors. You didn’t care when I was sleeping in a room that smelled like damp and neglect. But now that I’m ’special,’ now that I’m rare, you want to drag me to a seer?"

"It’s not like that," he growled, his face inches from mine.

"It’s exactly like that!" I countered. "Well, I’m not a tool for your pack, Leon. I’m the girl you rejected. Remember?"

"I never wanted to reject you!" he roared, the sound startling a flock of birds from the nearby trees. His self-control finally snapped, his fingers digging into the earth beside my head. "I’ve been dying for two years, Scarlett! Watching you, smelling you, wanting to rip the throat out of anyone who even looked at you wrong! Do you think it was easy for me? Do you think I enjoyed the silence?"

"Then why didn’t you say something?" I challenged, my voice dropping to a pained whisper. "Why let me suffer?"

"Because I’m a fool!" he spat. "Because I thought I was protecting the pack’s legacy. But looking at you now... seeing that wolf..."

"You only want the wolf," I said, a bitter tear sliding down my temple. "You don’t want me." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Shut up," he rasped, his gaze dropping to my mouth. "Just shut up, Scarlett."

"Make me," I dared him, the defiance thick in my blood.

He didn’t hesitate. Leon leaned down and captured my lips with a ferocity that stole the very air from my lungs. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It was an explosion of two years of suppressed hunger, rage, and a bond that refused to be broken. His tongue demanded entry, and I gave it, my hands sliding into his damp hair to pull him even closer.

The forest around us vanished. There was only the taste of him, the weight of his body, and the terrifying realization that no matter how much I hated him, my soul was still screaming for his.

Leon didn’t just kiss me; he devoured me. Our wolves howled in a unified symphony of pleasure that drowned out the rest of the world. I could feel the heat of his body, the heavy weight of him pinning me into the earth, and the friction of his cock rubbing against my entrance. It was torture and a blessing all at once.

He leaned down, his mouth leaving mine to find my breast. When he sucked on my nipple, a jolt of pure electricity shot straight through me. I lost all sense of reality. My pride, my anger, the memory of the floor I’d scrubbed—it all evaporated. I reached down, my fingers trembling, and led his hand to the aching heat between my thighs.

Leon didn’t hesitate. He began to rub, his touch firm and torturous, and I let out a jagged gasp that echoed through the trees.

"Scarlett," he growled against my skin, a sound of pure possession.

He inserted a finger, stretching me, and I moaned softly, my head hitting the forest floor as my hips arched up to meet him. Our eyes interlocked—his dark with Alpha dominance and a hunger so deep it terrified me. It was so fucking hot. He leaned down to kiss me again, his finger inside me becoming faster, more rhythmic. I cried out into his lips, my body wound tight like a spring, ready to snap.

But suddenly, the air changed.

A sharp rustle came from the thicket nearby—the sound of a heavy branch snapping. We both froze. The spell was broken instantly. Someone was here. Someone was watching us.
