The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 287: Acquaintance
Chapter 287: Acquaintance
Abby adjusted the strap of her handbag as she stepped into her favorite café. It was a rare Saturday afternoon when she wasn’t swamped with meetings or company matters. She planned to enjoy her cappuccino in peace, maybe read a book or catch up on some light work. As she approached the counter, she noticed a familiar blonde head in the corner. It was Nicole, the woman who had bumped into her at the company dinner a few weeks ago.
"Abby! Over here!" Nicole called out, waving enthusiastically.
Abby smiled and walked over to join her. "Nicole, what a surprise! How are you?"
"I’m great! I didn’t expect to see you here. Do you come here often?" Nicole asked, her tone light and friendly.
"Yes, it’s one of my favorite spots," Abby replied as she took a seat. "What about you?"
"Just passing through the neighborhood and thought I’d grab a coffee," Nicole said, her eyes bright with curiosity. "I’m glad I ran into you. I’ve been meaning to get in touch."
Abby raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What for?"
Nicole laughed softly. "Nothing serious. I just enjoyed our brief chat at the dinner and thought we could be friends."
"That sounds nice," Abby said, genuinely appreciating the gesture. "So, what have you been up to?"
As they chatted, Abby found Nicole to be charming and engaging. She had a knack for keeping the conversation light and interesting, and soon, Abby was sharing anecdotes from her work and personal life.
"So, tell me more about you and Remo," Nicole said casually, sipping her coffee. "You two seem like such a power couple."
Abby’s smile didn’t waver, but she noticed the intensity in Nicole’s gaze. "Remo and I are doing well. He’s been a great support, especially with all the changes at the company."
Nicole leaned in slightly. "He must be quite the man to handle all that. What’s he like? I mean, when it’s just the two of you?"
Abby chuckled, recognizing the curiosity in Nicole’s voice. "Remo is... complicated. He’s strong, loyal, and fiercely protective. He’s also incredibly intelligent and has a way of making everyone around him feel safe."
Nicole’s eyes gleamed with interest. "He sounds amazing. How did you two meet?"
Abby took a moment to consider her words, sensing that Nicole’s interest went beyond mere friendliness. "It’s a long story, but we met through mutual acquaintances. Our relationship grew from there."
Nicole’s probing continued, each question subtly trying to uncover more about Remo. Abby answered with a mix of wit and caution, showcasing her intelligence and protectiveness.
"Remo must have a lot of admirers," Nicole said with a sly smile. "How do you handle that?"
Abby’s eyes sparkled with amusement. "I don’t handle it. He does. Remo knows where his loyalties lie, and so do I. Besides, anyone trying to come between us would have quite the challenge."
Nicole laughed, but there was a slight edge to it. "I can see that. You’re quite the formidable pair."
"Thank you," Abby replied smoothly. "We’ve had our share of challenges, but we face them together."
Nicole’s questions grew more direct, and Abby’s responses remained poised yet revealing her possessive side. "Has he ever been involved with anyone else since you’ve been together?"
Abby’s smile turned sharper. "Not that I’m aware of. And I make it my business to be aware of everything."
Nicole leaned back, her eyes narrowing slightly as if trying to read more into Abby’s words. "You’re very confident."
"I have to be," Abby said, her tone cool but friendly. "When you have something as valuable as what Remo and I share, you protect it fiercely."
Their conversation drifted to other topics, but Abby remained vigilant, sensing that Nicole’s interest in Remo was more than casual. Despite this, she continued to entertain Nicole’s company, determined to understand what lay behind the blonde’s probing questions.
As they prepared to leave, Nicole smiled warmly. "I’m glad we got to chat, Abby. I’d love to do this again sometime."
"Sure," Abby replied, her smile polite but her mind alert. "It was nice catching up."
They parted ways, and Abby walked back to her car, her thoughts swirling. Nicole was charming, intelligent, and definitely curious about Remo. Too curious.
When Abby returned home, Remo was waiting for her in the living room, looking up from a book as she entered. "How was your day?"
"Interesting," Abby said, sinking into the couch beside him. "I ran into Nicole at the café."
Remo’s eyes darkened at the mention of her name. "Nicole?"
"Yes," Abby said, studying his reaction. "She was the blonde woman from the party who spilled wine on me."
Remo’s jaw tightened, and Abby could sense a surge of anger in him. "Did she say why she was there?"
"She said she was just passing through the neighborhood," Abby replied, watching him closely. "But she asked a lot of questions about you. Seemed very interested."
Remo took a deep breath, his eyes meeting Abby’s. "I checked the CCTV footage from that night. She’s more than just a random partygoer. Nicole is an acquaintance."
Abby frowned, her curiosity piqued but sensing Remo’s reluctance to divulge more. "An acquaintance?"
Remo nodded, his expression serious. "Yes. I’ll talk to her and find out what she wants."
Abby bit her lip, her protective instincts flaring up. "Do you think she’s a threat?"
Remo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I don’t know yet. But I don’t like her probing into our lives. I’ll handle it."
Abby nodded, trusting Remo’s judgment. "Alright. Just be careful."
A slow, mischievous smile spread across his face. "So, did you miss me?" he asked, his voice low and playful.
Before Abby could respond, he closed the distance between them, pulling her into a tight embrace. His lips found hers in a tender yet passionate kiss, and she melted into him, all the stress and unease from her encounter with Nicole dissipating in his arms.
"Of course I missed you," Abby murmured against his lips when they finally broke apart. "You know I always do."
Remo chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Good. Because I missed you too."
