The Tycoon's Gutsy Wife-Chapter 14: Friends
"Are you and father fighting?" He asked with an innocent look. "Are the two of you going to get a divorce?"
Adeline choked on her saliva. She had to drink water to calm herself before she replied.
She reached out and held Ian’s hand in hers and looked at him so daringly.
"You’re father and I are having some kind of misunderstandings for now but don’t worry. It won’t be long and I’ll explain everything to you," she said.
Ian simply blinked at her, his lips trembling with a pout.
Adeline glanced at her grandfather for help, and the man understood the assignment.
He pulled Ian towards him and said, "You don’t have to worry about anything my little boy. Your mother told me that your exam is coming soon. You keep what, if you get the first position, I’m going to buy you those sneakers you always wanted."
Ian’s eyes glimmered once he heard those words.
"Really?" He asked, extremely excited.
"Why, yes of course. So, you have to make sure that you get to the top of your class, okay?"
Ian nodded immediately.
"I’m done with dinner. Good night mum. I’m going to go study now," he said and ran up the stairs, heading for his room.
"Have you spoken with Theodore lately?" Mr. Donovan asked.
"I met him at the Solvaena anniversary party earlier today," she said.
The man gave her a confused expression, probably wondering what she was doing there.
She went on to explain what had happened the previous night, how she had broken a bottle on Darien’s head, leading to him asking her to tag along with him as he went to the party.
She also explained Theodore’s presence at the party and how Darien had knocked him unconscious with just a punch.
"I see," Mr. Donovan hummed. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Well, I read into the articles involving the Solvaena family. It turned out that they’d been selling the wrong materials to their clients," she said.
Mr. Donovan nodded.
The Solvaena and the Donovan family were in the same line of business. They both sold quality tile materials used for the flooring of houses or buildings. Selling quality tiles was just one of Donovan’s main businesses as they owned mines.
But as for the Solvaena family, it was their only business line, making them business rivals.
However, just recently, it was discovered that they’d been selling the wrong materials to their clients, making them enraged but they don’t seem to care about solving that issue first instead of celebrating their company’s anniversary.
"I can talk to Darien Hawthorne and offer him good quality materials from us since our mines are loaded with good resources," said Adeline.
Her grandfather only nodded, wiping his mouth clean with a napkin and pushing his plate away.
"Well, get on with it, and then you can finally divorce Theodore like you wanted," he said.
Adeline’s shoulders dropped in relief. It was sad that almost a decade of marriage was going to end just like that, but she needed to do what was best for her mental health, and for Ian.
Unfortunately for them, they didn’t see the little figure who’d been listening in to their conversation the entire time.
Ian stared at his mother, a perplexed look on his face.
Three days later,
Adeline was having brunch with her friends at the mall.
"Hold on. I’m trying to understand one thing," Samara said, nearly choking on her water. "That thing you call a husband, Theodore, chose a secretary over you?"
Daniela glanced at Samara, glad she wasn’t the only one still stuck in that part of the story.
"And, he expected you to return to him so he could have a word and discuss how to dissolve the issue all willy nilly?" Rinnah asked, her dark eyes filled with cold judgment, as if she had so much to say but in respect that Theodore was still Adeline’s husband, she was trying to hold back her tongue.
"Well, that’s how I saw it," Adeline responded, sipping on her smoothie but realized that she’d taken the last sip seconds ago.
"I can’t believe this," said Samara, flipping her blonde hair to the side. "It’s like I’m in a nightmare that I can’t wake up from."
In the group of four girls, Daniela was the brave type, who would speak without caring what the consequences of her words would bring, which left the other girls stunned when she decided to be a publicist.
Samara on the other hand sugarcoated her words as carefully as possible but she wasn’t a professional at blabbing like Daniela which always landed her in trouble sometimes.
Rinnah on the other hand was cold as ice, barely speaking or showing affection but whenever the girls were in trouble, she was the first to jump in to help them. Her chest was bubbling in rage when Theodore had betrayed her friend, but she tried to contain it.
"We’ve been talking about my issue for a while now. We don’t get to hang out all the time because of our schedule so tell me about your lives," Adeline encouraged, trying to change the subject.
Daniela was the first to jump in. "I have taken a new celebrity under my wings and he’s sucking all the blood from my veins," she said with a huff. "I understand the fans can tempt you to say what you’re not supposed to say but self-control guys...your career is on the line here."
Samara caressed Daniela’s hand with a soft smile. "I’m running my transfer document to the State University. I applied for the scholarship and I got in," she said.
"Really? This calls for a celebration," said Adeline, putting her hands together to clap for Samara who blushed.
"Indeed. I’ll buy you anything you want today," said Rinnah.
Samara’s eyes widened in shock. "Anything?"
"Anything. I got a promotion at work today and my income has increased. There’s a hockey competition coming up next year so I have about a year and a half to train new hockey players," she announced.
Once again, Adeline gave a round of applause.
"Alright then, let’s go shopping," she said and they all stood up from their seats ready to leave.
Once they arrived in the dress section of the mall, Adeline’s eyes caught someone familiar.
It was Lina.
