The Ultimate Chance-Chapter 83
"Common sense." He gave the most obvious answer, looking down at her drunken face and wondering whether she would make head or tail of what he was implying. She didn’t react, so he knew he had to elaborate. "You are drunk. If I don’t restrain myself, I may be tempted to take advantage of a drunk woman and we both know how that will end—with my head in the meat mincer. I still love my life and my son still needs me." He explained and when he looked down at her, she seemed to be bored, as though what he was saying made zero sense to her. When she rolled her eyes, he knew none of that mattered to her.
"Your common sense is better off not being so common." She was annoyed. "Do you think I’m a little girl? I know what I want, okay?"
That much was obvious but under the influence?
As if she knew what he was thinking, she stepped away and did a catwalk to prove she was sober enough. If runway models walked in that wobbly kind of manner, none of them would have their legs intact. She even raised her hands as if she was reading herself to do a cartwheel. He picked her up before she could trip on her own legs and break all her limbs. That would be tragic.
"Fine. You have proved yourself to be the most sober woman on earth tonight." He humored her. He thought she would curl in his arms and enjoy the praise like the little drunk she had become but to his surprise, she hit her fist gently against his chest to let him know she was aware that he was being sarcastic.
Since she wanted to be in his room so badly, he carried her there and put her gently on the bed. He had hoped he’d be able to escape once she was settled, so he wouldn’t have to do something that might cause her regret. However, she clung onto him as soon as he tried to move.
"Are you going to pretend you don’t want what I want?" She smothered her boobs against his arm. She was not wearing a bra and he could feel her boobs through the thin fabric of Chloe’s nightdress that she had borrowed after the swim earlier.
He swallowed a hard lump. "I just don’t want you to have any reason to regret coming here."
She looked up at him and licked her lip. "I would never regret it." She pulled him over for a kiss, letting herself fall backwards onto the pillows when he held her waist. He knelt over her with one knee between her thighs and the other beside her legs, kissing her as he slid his hands under her nightdress. She angled her body slightly to let him take it off and as soon as he threw it aside, she grabbed the fabric of his shirt and unbuttoned his shirt, moments before he ripped yet another of her favorite shirts on him open. She lamented over the lost buttons but they were forgotten as soon as his lips landed on her neck. It stung slightly when he sucked on the tender skin, but the sting was instantly masked by the pleasure she felt when he put her nipple into his mouth.
He flicked the sensitive bud with his tongue and gently sucked it while massaging the other in his hand. She already felt lightheaded from the alcohol but it was nothing compared to this. He massaged her boobs and nipples, sucking one after another like he was savoring a precious treasure.
With one hand still massaging her boobs, he let his hand glide down her body, igniting fire wherever he touched. She peeled his hand off her boob and guided it down where she wanted him to touch the most, and he complied. He rubbed her clit gently, groaning at how wet she was. When she parted her legs to give him better access, he slid a finger into her while his thumb rubbed her clit. She writhed underneath him in pleasure and he couldn’t hold himself back anymore. He pulled his finger out of her and replaced it with his already rock-hard manhood, and they both groaned in the intensity of it.
He positioned himself kneeling on the bed, held her by the waist and made gentle love to her, while kissing and touching her in ways she didn’t know she wanted to be touched. When they both reached their climax, he remained inside her for a while as he cooled off.
He then rolled her onto her side and cuddled her from behind, kissing her neck and back in tiny pecks. "I never stopped loving you, Avery. I love you." He whispered. She heard him and he knew she did, but she didn’t say a word. He didn’t push her to say anything about it either.
In actual fact, he regretted those words as soon as they said them. They couldn’t be any more true but as soon as he said them, he realized how inappropriate the timing was. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he woke up to an empty bed; with her gone. He was so certain of it that as he took a shower minutes later, he slammed his fist against the wall of the shower.
’You idiot! What the fuck did you do?" He scolded himself. Couldn’t he have waited? It wasn’t going to take that long and she wasn’t going anywhere! Well, now he was.
_____
The following morning. Despite having woken up so long ago that he could hear every sound around him including the occasional bird that would drop by his window to try and peck at the indoor plants sealed off by the glass window.
He felt the left side of the bed where Avery had fallen asleep the night before and just as he feared, she had left. He opened his eyes in disappointment, ready to face the fact that she had taken flight, and was surprised to see her by the window. She was wearing nothing and was gazing at the birds.
He came up behind her and used his arms to cover her, making her laugh.
"It’s one way. No one can see me from outside." She smiled. She wouldn’t have chosen this kind of spot to relax if there was any possibility of her being seen.
"I know. I still can’t get it out of my head that you are standing naked by a window that could display all of you." He let go of her and she followed him back to the bed. He knew it was time to talk about what he had said last night, which he had tried to avoid but it didn’t seem like he could pretend it didn’t happen anymore.
She sat on the bed without facing him.
She was being fair to him, he thought. In actual fact, she was being fair to both of them and Angel. If their son wasn’t in the picture, heaven knew she might have preferred to flee. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Avery, about what I said last night..."
"If you only said it in the heat of the moment, I understand. It might happen sometimes."
"No. It was not in the heat of the moment." He didn’t take the leeway she was leaving out for him to escape responsibility for his words. "I mean, I did lose my mind in the heat of the moment and say something I shouldn’t have, but what I said, that’s what I truly feel about you. I said it at the wrong time, I’ll admit as much. And if you need time to process it, I understand." He looked at her seriously. "However, I hope it doesn’t change anything."
"It changes everything, okay? How am I supposed to live with that?" She asked.
"Do you dare to swear you didn’t know how I feel about you?" He challenged, making her shut up. "I thought so."
"It’s just that you said it and..." ’And I feel the same way.’ She was glad to have stopped some of her thoughts from spilling out. What if what she thought was her rekindled love for him was only a response of her body to all the passion they’d been having? Maybe she wanted to feel a certain way and as a result, she had made her mind think she felt that way.
Besides, if that was a possibility for her, then it was equally possible for him. If this was fake, she didn’t know how she would ever live with it. Being bitten once was hard enough. If it happened a second time...
"I understand." He assured her without needing to hear her unsaid words. "You have all the time in the world to process it. If you never reciprocate my feelings, I would never blame you. And if you don’t want anything to change between us, nothing needs to change."
"I cannot expect you to simply forget all those years of hatred and bitterness and jump right into my arms." He explained, as if he knew she would find it odd that she was not insisting on anything.
She didn’t know how to swallow down the words at the tip of her tongue after hearing him say all that. It would have been easy to turn him down and pretend she felt nothing if he had been an asshole and tried to push her to be with him. But how the hell was she supposed to reject him when he was being so kind and understanding about it?
