The Undying Immortal System-Chapter 322: Life 77, Age 16, Martial Disciple 1
When I appeared in the Su Clan’s training compound, I felt like the world was spinning around me. The unbridled emotions created by my faulty ascensions as a Sovereign had completely unbalanced my mind, and even after being reborn, it took me several minutes to regain my bearings.
As I looked back at the final moments of my previous life, I couldn’t help but agree with Emperor Li’s claim that using the wrong type of karmic energy during a Sovereign-level ascension would create a monstrosity. The effects that a shattered energy body had on my mind were far greater than any form of cultivation madness I had ever experienced. I would need to ensure that I had proper protections in place before trying such a thing again.
Still… no real damage was done, and the extra 20 trillion credits I had gained would make doing everything that I needed to do next much easier.
After taking a moment to gather myself, I focused my mind on the task at hand. My inner world was crammed full of people, and I needed to get them out of there at the earliest possible moment.
“System, teleport me to my normal cultivation chamber in the Su Clan’s Hall of Ancestral Worship.”
Purchase confirmed. Discounted cost 17 credits. 30,999,999,999,983 credits remaining.
The rotting walls of my tiny wooden shack vanished, and I appeared inside a dusty stone room.
Reaching into my inner world, I pulled out a team of five Peak Grandmasters and tossed their leader a memory orb. “Subdue HongYi and force him to absorb those memories. Then, destroy the outer ring of the formation.”
Each member of the team saluted. “Yes, Ancestor.”
Once they were gone, I couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Part of me had been worried that one or all of that group might attempt to take advantage of my non-existent cultivation base to launch a sneak attack. Since I still had my powerful soul to rely on, such an attack would have been doomed to failure, but it would have been a sign that my clan was far more fragile than I would have liked.
Thankfully, though, that didn’t happen, and about 10 minutes later, Dragon Gate City was rocked by a powerful earthquake.
Taking this as my cue, I stood and made my way to the building’s audience hall. Su HongYi was already there, waiting for me, and gave me a deep bow when I arrived.
After sitting on the throne, I pulled out four teams consisting of 20 Grandmasters each. “You each have your missions. Execute them.”
They saluted and bowed. “Yes, Ancestor.”
Then, they swiftly departed and headed for their targets. Each team would travel directly to one of the other four formations and bring down its outer ring.
Once they were gone, I pulled out a team of 40 Lords. “Go. Secure Dragon Gate.”
Like the others, this team saluted and departed. In this manner, I continued pulling teams of cultivators out of my inner world. First, Grandmasters, then Lords, then Kings, and finally, Emperors.
By attacking like lightning, we were able to secure our grip on the Wastes in less than a day, returning to the status quo under which we had lived for decades. Emperors were allowed in Dragon Gate, and Kings were allowed in the surrounding territories. While we didn’t yet have layers of defensive formations to protect us, for the moment, we had an even greater protection: no one outside of the Su Clan knew that anything had happened other than a series of earthquakes.
Over the following month, I released everyone from my inner world at the rate of about 10,000 people per day. With so many people having traveled through time, the idea that we would be able to hide what had happened was laughable, so I didn’t bother with trying to enforce any Oaths of Silence. We just needed to move fast enough that it didn’t matter.
The Sovereigns would eventually figure out the truth, but they wouldn’t be able to do anything to us. We only had to worry about a personal visit from the Saint, and I doubted that the Emissary would risk calling him over without solid evidence. After all, how many people would believe that an entire clan had traveled through time?
This left us in the position we had been in before my ascension to Sovereign. The Su Clan was locked inside the Wastes while the Sovereigns were locked outside.
During this first month, I also took time to hand out memory orbs to each of my Revered Elders. This cost me quite a few credits in teleportation fees, especially since Murong NaYun, my tentative Revered Elder of Lightning, was a Peak Grandmaster, but it was a price that I was willing to pay to get everything sorted out as soon as possible.
I also paid to raise Mei’s wind affinity to mid five-star so that she could reestablish the Grain Jar Sect, but hopefully, this would be the last time that such a purchase would be necessary. Once I acquired the essence cultivation techniques from the Li and Zhuge Clans, I would be able to raise everyone’s affinities at zero cost.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
30,999,376,125,098 credits remaining.
Sadly, this process wasted all the discounts I had earned from creating body cultivation techniques. However, since even the largest of those was only on the order of a few million credits, I didn’t consider it much of a loss.

Once this was all taken care of, I was left with nothing to do. ShouLi and the leadership council would manage my clan, and the Revered Elders would either reestablish their sects or appoint someone else to do the job for them. The only major difference between this life and the last was that Yan had decided to stay in the Wastes and use his experience to help guide the sect of illusionists.
I just needed to sit back and wait for our empire to be rebuilt.
With no pressing business to take care of, I decided that it was time to think over how I should spend the wealth of credits that I had just earned. There were some things that I needed to buy, and there were other things that I simply wanted to buy, so I needed to think carefully about how to best use my credits without wasting them.
I had three main goals for this life: improve my Emperor-level cultivation technique, expand my inner world, and reach Peak Sovereign.
The last of these seemed simple enough. I just needed sufficient time to gather the necessary energy. However, for me to gain ‘sufficient time,’ I would need to deal with both the Saint and his Sovereigns. I had a few ideas for how to do that, but the only relevant purchase I could think to make was a boost to my comprehension of formations.
As for improving my cultivation technique, the key purchases that could help me were a boost to my affinity for karmic energy and the ability to analyze Rank 6 cultivation techniques. Unfortunately, the price of a Rank 6 analysis ability was 50 trillion credits, which was a bit outside of my price range. So, for this life, I would have to make do with only a boosted affinity.
“System, give me a permanent low four-star affinity for karmic energy.”
Purchase confirmed. Cost 11.5 trillion credits. 19,499,376,125,098 credits remaining.
This left me with the question of how to grow my inner world.
One thing that I had noticed was that the speed at which my world was growing while I was in the Wastes was far slower than it had been when I was in the Nine Rivers Sect. The only theory I had to explain this was that the formation in my soul was drawing in significantly less qi while I was in the Wastes compared to when I was in the sect.
So, if I wanted to grow my inner world as quickly as possible, hanging out in the Wastes was a bad idea. At the same time, I didn’t exactly want to rejoin the Nine Rivers Sect—I just wanted to cultivate on their mountain.
To do this without raising suspicions, I needed to make a purchase.
I took out my identity jade from my last life in the sect. “System, how much would it cost to modify the Nine Rivers Sect’s Sect-Protecting Formation so that it acknowledges the existence of this token? Also, I want any records that the formation or the sect would have on me to be the same as if I were a normal, 31-year-old ungraded core disciple with low five-star affinities in earth, fire, and metal.”
Cost 13 billion credits.
“How much would it cost for you to make that modification at the start of my next life and then shift my permanent reset point forward?”
Cost 260 billion credits.
“Alright, purchase both. Change it now, and set things up to permanently change things on my next loop.”
Purchase confirmed. 19,226,376,125,098 credits remaining.
This would give me permanent access to the sect without needing to worry about passing through its ‘Entrance Exam’ or subjecting myself to unnecessary mental influences.
What else could I do to try to grow my inner world more quickly? It might be worth looking at improving the size and quality of the formation in my soul, but I felt that it would be better to wait until I could completely upgrade it to a Rank 7 formation or higher.
While there might be other ways to increase the rate of my world’s expansion, the only other one that I had seen evidence of was my space affinity. Since raising that affinity should help me create portals as a Sovereign, I might as well upgrade it immediately. “System, permanently increase my space affinity to low five-star.”
Purchase confirmed. Cost 11.5 trillion credits. 7,999,376,125,098 credits remaining.
“Oh, and please add details about my inner world to my death notification. List the details on both its size and Rank.”
Purchase confirmed. Cost 100 credits. 7,239,376,1244,998 credits remaining.
I considered my remaining balance and what I needed to do in this life. There didn’t seem to be any other ‘major’ purchases that I would need to make. Everything else would just come down to my skill with formations.
“System, improve my comprehension of formations to a total of 5 trillion credits.”
Purchase confirmed. Cost 4.9 trillion credits. 2,339,376,125,098 credits remaining.
I had burned through almost all my savings, but I was satisfied with the results. Reaching Sovereign in this life would be much easier than the last.
Exiting my cultivation chamber, I left to find ShouLi.
ShouLi stared at me, mouth agape. “You’re… you’re leaving?”
I nodded. “There isn’t anything for me to do here. You know that as well as I do. So, I’m going to hide out in the Nine Rivers Sect. This means that access to Chang’an will be suspended, and anyone who doesn’t want to be trapped in there for the next several decades should leave, but other than that, nothing will really change.”
ShouLi closed her eyes and dropped her head. “Yes, Ancestor.”
I suppressed the urge to chuckle. ShouLi was hundreds of years old by this point, but I had been looking over her shoulder the entire time. This might be the first time she would be on her own with no one to cover for her.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure everything will be fine.” I considered saying a few words of encouragement, but decided against it. They weren’t needed. ShouLi was strong enough to stand on her own.
A few days later, it was time for me to leave. The only people I would be taking with me were a few earth cultivators who had decided to stay in Chang’an and make it their permanent residence.
“System, teleport me to a secluded spot in South Gate City.”
Purchase confirmed. Cost 1,241 credits. 2,339,376,123,857 credits remaining.
