THE USELESS PRINCE-Chapter 42: Coldness and Darkness
Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Coldness and Darkness
Coldness and darkness were two of the most terrifying and dangerous pairs in this world.
The cold would give people a slow and extremely painful death, making them want to die but unable to and have to continue to endure this dreadful torture.
Meanwhile, darkness would extinguish all light, which meant that all hope of survival and escape would disappear.
In the darkness, people would only feel fear and despair. They wanted to escape from there, but unfortunately, that was impossible with eternal darkness.
And ironically, that was also the situation that Ash was going through.
As soon as he opened his eyes, the first scene that hit his vision was... nothing.
He only saw darkness and darkness. Nothing more, nothing less.
At the same time, he also felt the temperature was unbearably cold, as if he was immersed in the water of Antarctica.
This was confusing, even when he was outside, he had never felt this freezing before.
Ash’s body trembled uncontrollably, but he had no more time to waste.
He had to know where he was, what kind of condition he was in, and what the fuck was going on.
He then began to grope around, only to realize that he was in a cell, completely cut off from the outside world by icy iron bars.
Not accepting this unpleasant truth, Ash continued to grope around, hoping that this was not what he thought.
But as said before, in the dark, hope never existed.
Ash continued to fumble around, only to recognize that he was actually trapped in a cell. And worse, this place was extremely filthy, as if it had been millions of years since someone last cleaned it.
Frustrated, Ash leaned against a nearby wall, trying to figure out what to do next.
But then, someone’s hand suddenly touched his thigh, causing Ash’s skin to crawl with fear and nervousness.
"Who is it?" Luckily, it was Canis’s voice.
"Phew, so you’re Canis?"
Hearing Ash’s familiar voice, Canis couldn’t help but give him a warm and passionate hug immediately.
"Prince!!!"
Ash could feel Canis’s body quivering, and this was his way of making him feel more secure. It seemed that unlike Ash, Dragon Slayer was much more frightened.
He patted the back of the person who would later destroy the entire dragon race as if he was coaxing a child.
"It’s okay Canis, I’m here."
And then, before Ash and Canis had a chance to calm down a bit, a woman’s voice suddenly rang out from what seemed to be the cell next door:
"Is someone there?"
But unlike the voice Ash heard before, this voice belonged to a woman, not a man.
Moreover, she seemed to be extremely tired and had lost all will to live.
"Who are you?" Ash quickly let go of Dragon Slayer.
"Who... am I? To be honest, I don’t remember anymore. I’ve been down here for too long..." Her mood still hadn’t improved at all, and was even getting worse.
Understanding what she said, Ash decided not to dig deeper into this girl’s past.
But, he still needed to know some necessary information.
"Then where are we? Do you know where this is?"
"..." Silence was all he got in return. She probably didn’t know the answer.
It was only natural, someone who couldn’t even remember their own name, how could they remember where this place was.
However... she definitely remembered who had put them in this situation, right?
"Do you know the man who forced us into this place?"
The fact that that person hadn’t been discovered by the instructors alone was enough to prove that he was no ordinary one.
"I...I...I..."
"Oh, it seems like you guys had a pretty good conversation?" From within the deep and thick darkness, that man’s voice spoke again.
And just like last time, it still sounded vicious and unpleasant. It definitely belonged to a villain.
Ash and Canis raised their guard at the same time, but it seemed that the girl was not doing the same as them.
She was crying like a newborn baby, kept saying some words that no one could understand, and kept hurting herself as soon as she heard that man’s voice.
This made Ash and Canis’s goosebumps.
It was petrifying. The two of them didn’t even have to directly witness it to understand the savagery of what was happening.
Meanwhile, that man didn’t even intend to stop her from doing that, just standing there, not moving, staring at her.
Although in this darkness, Ash couldn’t tell what kind of expression he was wearing, but he could almost tell that the man felt as if he was watching a pet.
"Hey bastard, do you know who you kidnapped?" It was time to use Ash "Worthless" Voidveil’s family background.
Somehow, he really thought that after realizing that he was the Third Prince of the Voidveil Empire, the man would immediately let him go.
But it seemed that this time, Ash had underestimated the situation.
"Of course, aren’t you the Third Prince of the Empire?"
’Huh?’
"Did you really think that you could escape from here if you used your identity? How cute."
"..."
"But unfortunately for you, that method won’t work."
This man was truly a madman. He already knew about his true identity, yet he didn’t give a shit about this at all.
This alone was enough to prove that all the people behind him must have a lot of power.
A dark thought instantaneously appeared in his mind and disappeared.
"Could it be...you’re from the Abyssal Organization?"
The man paused for a moment, completely not expecting Ash to say that. And then, he laughed like a lunatic:
"Hahahahahaha...You’re right, the Third Prince of the Empire. I really am a member of the Abyssal Organization! Nice to meet you, my name is Van!"
Ash clicked his tongue.
"But I’m not happy to meet you, you piece of dogshit."
"What a pity, sir. I really wish we could become a little closer."
Ash deliberately ignored Van’s words and went straight to the point:
"Alright, I’ll say it straight, if you don’t want to die, then let us go."
"Pft...HAHAHAHAHA!"
Once again, he burst out laughing.
"Do you really think I would believe those words? Besides, I had no intention of releasing you in the first place! The higher-ups ordered me to kill you, so I had no choice but to do so!"
"..."
"But don’t worry, my Prince."
Ash could feel a malicious smile on his face.
"I won’t let you die! Before you die, why don’t we spend some time together? That woman is about to become useless anyway!"
"..."
"So, what do you think?"
Ha! Did he even need to ask? Ash’s answer was of course...
"Fuck no!"
