The Vampire King's Pet-Chapter 353: Ability Glitch
At first it had been negligible. Something that could be ignored. Heck, Aria gave a lot of reasons to herself for why it was happening even though she knew it was a lie.
She had just woken up with Zyren having already gotten off the bed and left. But her legs had barely hit the ground and she instantly knew that something was wrong.
At first she had thought it was nothing more than morning jitters and grogginess as she went ahead to activate her abilities to combat the nausea she usually felt.
Only for her heart to skip a beat as she stared at her hands and body. Clearly, her ability had not activated. She tried again, and again, even as her heart pounded harder in her chest. Doing it the best way she knew how, but no matter what, her abilities remained dormant.
She could feel it in her body, but no matter what she did, she could not activate it. It’s fine... it’s just temporary... she slowly scrambled off the bed, pacing a bit in the room even as she realized what it meant.
She had met with Savira, the oldest vampire healer, and she had warned that babies brought unexpected changes, especially the bigger they grew. They took from their mothers and disrupted things without care.
It’s just the way it is, Savira had told her after she had informed her about the baby and their worry about Zyren’s bloodline.
"It’s fine! It’s okay! It’s just temporary!" she whispered in a low tone to herself as she headed to the bathroom to bathe, trying to steady her nerves as she prepared the bath water. Rumors had just gotten married to Drehk, which meant that she could no longer be her maid. She could call other maids, but Aria no longer wanted to be attended to. Moreover, she didn’t want anyone in her space as she lowered her hands to the huge bump on her stomach.
She had just lowered her naked body into the tub of water when she frowned. Liora was still yet to be found, and weeks had gone by—enough for her to worry that she might have been attacked and overpowered by a Zygon.
Apart from that, the loss of her powers scared her more than she thought. The baby still had a couple of months before it would come out, and that meant that she would be unable to heal. Not only that, but even if a Zygon approached her, she still would not be able to tell or help people to figure it out.
The thought was scary as she rubbed her forehead, hoping that it would somehow help the headache that was slowly forming in her skull. The water didn’t help, so she got out of the tub and headed out to dry her body and dress up.
But she was still seated on the bed, drying her hair with a piece of cloth wrapped around her body, when the door was pushed open, and she watched Zyren step in, closing the door behind him, even as he focused his intense gaze on her.
He was dressed like usual in black. His black hair cascaded down his shoulder, and his face seemed carefully carved. He looked extremely handsome, and his stature was just as nice to look at. He was tall, and his bone structure was magnificent, even as he took big strides toward where she sat on the bed.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he came to stand in front of her. Aria didn’t instantly respond, thinking for a second that she could possibly tell him that her powers weren’t working. But the thought had just occurred to her when she instantly pushed it out of her mind. I can’t tell him! Not yet! she decided, even as she slowly smiled, beckoning for him to lean closer to her, which he instantly did, his hands on either side of her as his face moved right in front of hers.
Instead of responding, she put her hands around his neck and pulled his face closer to her own as she lightly kissed him on his lips with a smile on her face.
"I’m okay! Nothing is wrong!" she told him, not surprised to see him look at her with a look that said he didn’t completely believe her.
Still, he nodded his head as he straightened up, while Aria spoke to him, getting up with the cloth still wrapped around her as she headed to the cupboards where her clothes were, doing her best to find what she would wear for the day. But she had just picked a cloth and thened around, expecting Zyren to have left, only to watch him continue to stand there, a severe expression on his face that showed that he had something to say.
"What is it?" Aria softly asked, even as she continued to speak, feeling her heart start to race as she had an inkling of what it was.
"Is it Liora? You found her?" she asked with trembling lips, even as tears flooded her eyes.
"Is she alright?" she asked, knowing that if she was fine, then Zyren would have simply brought her without Aria having to ask.
"Sit! I’ll explain it to you!" he told her, even as he moved to sit on the bed, still fully dressed in his usual black clothes, with gold lining every corner. A heavy coat rested on his shoulders, which wasn’t for the cold, since such things couldn’t affect him.
Aria practically fell on the bed as she asked, "Is... is she alive?" She asked, unable to help the tears that slowly filled her eyes, even as Zyren began to explain.
"My brother was found, and after much persuasion, someone came forward to claim that they saw someone who matched your sister’s features," Aria instantly nodded, taking a deep breath in, thinking that everything was fine—right until Zyren began to tell her the gory details.
