The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 30 - . It’s Daylight
Chapter 30: 30. It's Daylight
Mauve resurrected from the dead with a jerk. She dragged herself upwards but remained on the bed. Her back was resting on her pillows instead of just her head. The sheet was still around her shoulders. The first thing she noticed was her eyes were having a hard time opening.
She rubbed at them and felt crusty flakes rub against her palm. She tried to open her eyes but they didn't budge. She rubbed some more and managed to get them slightly open.
"Princess," she heard Vae squeal. "You are finally awake." She rushed to her side and stood directly in front of her. "I was afraid something was terribly wrong."
Mauve frowned as she stopped rubbing her eyes. "Why?" She opened her eyes to see Vae looking down at her with furrowed brows.
She looked around, the room was still dark but a couple of candles were lit here and there. Mauve wondered if they had been left on all this time.
"What do you mean why? What time did you go to sleep last night?"
Mauve pouted and lifted her chin, she could not really remember the details from before she slept. She shrugged, "I don't know. Is it that important? All that matters is that I am awake now."
"Surely you jest, princess. It is mid-morning."
Mauve eyes grew, "It is daylight!"
"Yes, it has been for hours now. You have been asleep for at least thirteen hours. I was here about an hour after sunset and you were asleep. Jael gave strict orders not to wake you up. Did something happen?"
"I don't know. Why didn't you wake me up?" She threw her body into a sitting position.
"Ahhh!" Vae screamed.
"What?" Mauve yelled, frightened but could not see why Vae had screamed.
"What happened to your clothes? Were you attacked by a wild animal?"
Mauve slowly looked down at her chest in horror. Her left bosom laid bare, and part of her dress had been cleanly ripped out. A scream erupted from her lips. She quickly pulled the sheets over her chest.
Mauve's head became a ripe tomato as the incident from last night came rushing through her thoughts. She stretched her hand and used her palm to cover her neck. Vae's gaze never left her face and she noticed Mauve's hand movement.
"What is that? What are you hiding?"
"Nothing," Mauve cried and moved backward.
Vae stretched out her hand to pry away the princess fingers away from her neck when a loud knock was heard. They both jumped at the sudden interruption. Vae squinted at her but walked away to answer the door.
"Who is it?" She asked.
"I am here with the bath water." A voice said.
Mauve buried herself further into the sheets just as Vae threw the door open. The same servant who always brought in her bath water walked into the room. Vae stepped aside to give him enough space to walk with the bath.
He dropped it and fled out of the room without a single word. Vae closed the door and just as the door locked in place, she heard a knock. "What?!" She yelled and flung the door open.
She came face to face with the young vampire, he glared at her with a sneer on his lips. Vae gasped but almost immediately the look disappeared as if it had never been there. "Herbert would like to know if the princess would like her food in the dining or her bedroom?"
Vae turned her head to look at Mauve who was still lying on the bed. "Princess, did you hear?"
"Yes, the bedroom, please. I would rather not leave the room unless I absolutely had to."
"The bedroom," Vae responded even though she knew he could hear Mauve.
He glared at her. "Does the Princess have any special request? Any meal she would like Mister Herbert to make? He has offered to make the meals himself on the Sire's command of course."
"Princess?" Vae called.
"Who is Herbert?" She asked her eyes darting between Vae and the young vampire who stood just out the door.
Vae turned to look at her, "Princess you don't know the cook?"
"Head cook and he is also in charge of all the servants in the castle." The vampire glared at them, Mauve could tell he did not like how casually they were referring to Mister Herbert.
"I see. I am fine with anything and give the cook…"
"Head cook," he interjected.
Mauve blinked, his interruption had crashed her train of thoughts. It took her a second to get it back. "Give the head cook my thanks."
He then spun on his heel, Mauve could swear that she heard a scoff. She always thought he was timid, she never would have guessed how fiery he was. He seemed annoyed for some reason.
"Let's bathe you. I am sure the bath water has gone cold by now." Mauve chuckled, It was obvious the servant had ticked Vae off. Vae walked towards the bed and then made an abrupt stop. "Would you like me to open the curtains?"
"Yes, please." Mauve quickly answered.
Vae quickly rushed towards it and threw the curtains open before she walked towards the bed where the princess sat and carefully helped her out of it as Mauve hung onto her exposed bosom, covering it with her hand as much as she could.
"Are you really not going to tell me what happened, princess?" Vae asked as she took off Mauve's clothes.
Mauve did not say a word, she did not want to think about the incident. To tell another person was a little too much right now. She slowly shook her head.
Vae sighed, "Fine! I won't ask any more questions."
Vae led her to the bath and she carefully slid into it. The water still felt warm against her skin. Mauve sighed in satisfaction as she felt all the tight muscles in her body immediately loosened as the water touched her skin.

Vae picked up the sponge and began to carefully scrub her body. Suddenly she heard a soft gasp from Vae followed by words, "Princess, why are there two pierced marks on your neck? Surely, the wild animal you encountered wasn't a snake."
Mauve reddened and tried to cover the bite marks with her hands. "It is nothing."
"Hmm," Vae said with a smirk. "If the princess insist. Now, move your hand, I need to wash your neck."
Mauve slowly moved her hands out of the way.
"Why don't you want to tell me?"
No answer.
"Does it have anything to do with your torn dress?"
No answer.
"Hmm," Vae said but by the glint in her eyes, it was obvious she had no plan of letting the subject go.
"How far did he go? Perhaps, did you share the same bed, is that why you slept the entire night away because you were too tired?"
"Vae!" She cried. "Nothing like that happened." She brought her hands to her face, there was no doubt the incident was why she had slept for that long without even waking up once.
"Then why are you red?"
"Nothing, the water is hot."
"You must take me for a child, princess."
"I do not. Besides, he has his own bed. So stop whatever vulgar thoughts you have in your head."
"That doesn't mean he can't lay in your bed. You are married to him, are you not?"
"Yes, but it doesn't mean anything. It is an arrangement."
Vae's hands froze on her skin. "It does, princess. Have you kissed since the wedding?"
Mauve's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "Vae, a lady should not talk about such things."
"As you wish, princess but I wish you would confide in me about these things. I do have some experience, you know."
Mauve spun to look at Vae so hard that the water poured out the sides.
"Princess," Vae yelled in horror.
"You are not a virgin?" Mauve blurted out ignoring Vae's warning.
"Surely, you did not think I am?"
Mauve pouted. "I don't know what a virgin looks like."
"Princess," Vae frowned. "Do you even know what it means to lose it?"
"Your virtue?"
"Yes," Vae said softly.
Mauve twirled her fingers, "I do…"
A loud knock caused them to jump.
"Coming," Vae called out. "Get out of the water princess, let me clean and cover you up before I check who is at the door."
Mauve stood immediately and water splashed out the side, Vae paid it no mind and quickly wiped her clean. She covered her with the towel and helped her get under the sheets to hide and to keep warm.
Vae opened the door to find the young vampire behind it. He held a tray with several contents. He took a step back when he saw the sunlight and Vae had to step forward to accept the tray.
"Can I take the bath water now?"
"Yes, please," Vae smirked and pushed open the door farther.
The young vampire glared at her. "The window."
"What?" Vae asked, feigning ignorance.
"Close the curtains."
