The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 32 - . Strange Books
Chapter 32: 32. Strange Books
As the door of the library closed behind her, Mauve swore. It was dark, not pitch dark as that room was but there was no way she would be able to read in her with that amount of light.
She frowned and looked up at the windows, it was pretty high up even if she climbed the ladder she would have a hard time reaching the windows. She pouted and here she thought she was going to spend a couple of hours here.

She pushed herself off the door. She could not read here but at least she could take a book or two with her.
She grabbed two, she didn't even know what section they belonged to or their titles but it didn't matter. She was certain she could read anything.
Happy with the two books she had taken, she strutted out of the library with them in her hands. She pushed the library doors open and quickly made her way back to her room.
She threw the windows open and jumped into bed. She picked the two books staring hard as she tried to decide which one to read first and that was when she noticed it.
She dropped the second book as if it had burnt her and peered closely at this book. The title was a language she did not understand and that wasn't the only thing peculiar about this book. There was no author name.
She flipped it open and the strange text made her eyes hurt. The words looked to be dancings. She didn't understand a single thing. The words looked so familiar she was sure she had never seen them before now.
She looked at the bank of the book expecting to get a clue or something, but she got nothing. Though aside from the language and the lack of an author name it looked like any regular book.
She studied it some more, wondering if there were more of these types of books in the library or if all the books were like this. Mauve quickly dropped the book and picked the second one.
The sigh of relief that escaped her lips when she was able to read the title echoed in her room. The author's name looked familiar.
She opened the book and came face to page with herbs. "Oh no!" She yelled. Now, she knew why the author's name was familiar.
She didn't want to make the trip back to the library but sitting here reading about herbs seemed a little glum. Mauve sighed and began to read, maybe the fact that it was boring would thrill her.
Thirty minutes later, Mauve was seated upright with her head buried in the book. She didn't understand a thing she was reading but that was only because none of the herbs the book was talking about existed.
She wasn't a herb expert, at least she should have recognized some of them but she didn't, neither by names nor by the drawings. Something wasn't right.
It also felt like she was reading it wrong. The book was saying what each herb could be used for and how it could be mixed with other herbs to get certain results but somehow it didn't make sense. The diseases and illnesses didn't exist.
She flipped the pages as she tried to read faster but it didn't change anything and she was left more confused. At this point, she couldn't help but think she would have less of a headache if she had just read the other book.
Mauve closed the book so hard it echoed in the room. She was hungry and her eyes were tired. She didn't know what time it was but by the sun rays coming through her window, there were at least two hours before sunset.
She picked up the two books, that was enough reading for one day. Next time she would make sure to pick a proper book but next time was not today. She needed a nap but she had to eat first.
She walked to the library to return the book and wondered if Jael would know about it. She blushed profusely as she thought of him, she had been avoiding thoughts of him even though he would occasionally pop into her mind.
She didn't want to think about the incident and there was no way to think about him without remembering it. She didn't know how she felt about it but she knew she didn't hate it.
She reddened some more as she remembered herself squirming in his hands. He must think there was something wrong with her. She would have covered her face with her hands but there were books in them.
After returning the books, she quickly made her way downstairs, past her room and the ballroom as she made her way to the kitchen. Jael had merely pointed at the kitchen, they had not gone in.
She knocked without thinking and scolded herself. She didn't want to wake anybody. She pushed open the door. She didn't have any plans for what she would do but if she could prepare something, she would. However, she was hoping she would find some leftovers or fruits.
The kitchen was dark except for a candlelight that was on a table. She frowned as she saw it, wondering if someone had forgotten it or if it was left on purpose. She didn't give it much thought as she was starving.
She picked up the light and shone it toward the stove. The stove had huge pots over them but there was no fire and she immediately knew it would be a hassle to try to light it herself. She opened the pot and sighed. She had been expecting nothing less.
She tried the second pot, but it was also empty. Mauve closed her eyes, she was going to die of hunger. The third pot maybe, the third time's a charm after all. Her hand reached to open the pot when she heard a soft voice.
"What are you doing?"
Mauve jerked so hard out of fright that she spilled the candle wax all over her hand. The pain was so unexpected, she immediately let out a scream. She closed her mouth immediately. The last thing she wanted was to wake the whole house and they would come to find her in the kitchen like a mouse trying to steal.
"Are you okay?" The vampire asked and rushed toward her.
Mauve nodded, surprised that she had not dropped the candle in the commotion which was good as it would have probably landed on her dress. A horrified look passed her face and she quickly waved it away. She dropped the candle, better safe than sorry.
The vampire got to her side and applied a wet cloth to her arm. "Does it hurt?"
Mauve shook her head. Now that the initial shock of the heat was gone, she realized that it didn't hurt as much.
"I don't know how to treat human wounds but I figured a wet cloth should work."
Mauve nodded, "Thank you."
The vampire took a step back and I said, "I apologize, if I hadn't scared you, this wouldn't have happened."
Mauve was too stunned to speak, a vampire had just apologized to her, she couldn't believe her ears. "Um," she stuttered. "Don't worry about it. If I wasn't sneaking around, it wouldn't have happened." She chuckled awkwardly.
The young vampire did not say anything for a few seconds. Mauve could not shake the feeling that she had seen this face before now. Her eyes and the shape of her nose looked very familiar.
"Okay," her sudden reply cut through Mauve's thoughts as she realized she was staring. "My name is Mill. At your service."
"Mauve," she said and held onto the wet cloth.
"I know, princess. What brings you to the kitchen?"
Mauve opened her mouth to speak and her stomach beat her to it. Mauve froze as shame poured over her. At this point, she was certain her stomach was alive, its impeccable timing was starting to annoy her.
Mauve looked at Mill with a look of horror. She was certain the only way she could embarrass herself more than this was if her bowels should give out on her.
"Oh, you could have rung the bell. I can't believe my brother didn't tell you."
"Um, bell? What bell?" Her head spun as she tried to remember if she had seen anything like that.
"I see," her eyes turned to slits. "What would you like to eat?"
"Anything but since it is almost time for breakfast some fruits would be nice."
"Okay? Do you have any favorites?"
"Apples," Mauve announced.
"How about your hand?"
Mauve looked down at it and took the cloth off, the pain was completely gone but she was still expecting some kind of injury. She stared at it. The spot looked red but nothing too serious.
She looked up at Mill, "It is fine. Thank you very much."
Mill smiled back at her, "I am glad. It shouldn't scar, right?" She looked genuinely worried as she asked.
"No, it should be completely fine in a few hours."
"Alright. If you head back to your room, I will bring some fruits up in a few minutes."
