The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 52 - . Something To Remember Me By
Chapter 52: 52. Something To Remember Me By
Mauve set the empty dishes aside and got out of bed, her bath water was ready. As much as she didn't feel tired, she knew it would be best for her to go to bed now so she would be completely better by sunset.
She walked into the tub and settled in it. She stepped out a few minutes later, dripping water. Vae wiped her off quickly, drying her hair and the rest of her body. Vae stood aside as if waiting for orders.
Mauve frowned, "What is going on, Vae?"
Vae blinked, "Would you like to get dressed?"
Mauve looked flabbergasted, "Why would you even ask that?"
"Well, last night…"
"Enough about last night, I don't even want to think about it. Now pick something for me to wear." Mauve ordered with a reddened glow to her cheeks.
Mauve did not want to know what had happened last night because from the sound of Vae's voice it sounded pretty bad. The last thing she remembered was leaving the dining hall. She remembered the conversation but not some of the words and a lot of things seemed fuzzy. She groaned, it hurt to try to remember.
Vae moved quickly at her order, she got to the wardrobe and returned with the night clothes. Mauve got dressed quickly and sat by the dresser. Vae took out the brush and slowly started to brush her hair. "Promise me you will go right to sleep?"
Mauve pouted, "But I don't feel tired."
"Just for tonight princess. You can read as many books as you want by sunset."
"Fine, I will go to sleep."
"Thank you. Would you like your hair in a specific way?"
"Not really, just braid it so it doesn't spread everywhere when I sleep."
"Alright," Vae said and stopped brushing her hair. She parted it into two equal parts and braided the sections. "How are things with you and your husband, the Vampire King?"
Mauve scoffed, "I wouldn't call him that, Vampire King sounds more fitting."
"Princess," Vae cried.
"What?"
"You shouldn't say such things."
Mauve rolled her eyes at Vae. "We are better than I thought. We are not the loving couple I have always envisioned but he is nice to me. I expected worse being in the vampire region and all."
"I see, he sounds more like a guardian than the person you are married to."
Mauve blushed, "I wouldn't say that."
"Oh did more happen after that kiss you refused to give me details on aside from the fact that you pulled his…"
"Vae!" She cried.
"Sorry, princess. All done." She announced and took a step back.
Mauve leaned forward to get a closer look at what Vae had done to her hair. "Thank you, Vae. That should be enough."
Vae bowed and slowly walked out of the room. Mauve sighed and grabbed one of the braids, her hair was a little longer but the difference wasn't significant. She flipped the braid backward and stood from the chair.
She got to the side of her bed and slipped into the sheets. The sun wasn't out yet but it would be in a few minutes. She closed her eyes and tried to get some sleep. Mauve rolled left, rolled right, rolled to the edge of the bed, and back to the middle, sleep still eluded her.
She sat upright and wondered if it was because the room was too bright for her. She stood up, put off most of the candles, and lay in bed again. She still couldn't sleep. She groaned and pulled the sheet over her head.
The only reason she had not picked the book yet was that she had promised Vae she would not. Mauve tossed and turned for a while, hoping that at some point her body would get tired and go to sleep.
Mauve did not know how long she was lying in silence when she heard the sound of the opening. It was the door connecting her room with Jael. Mauve instantly froze up, she had her back to the door so if she turned around now he would know she was awake and she wanted to avoid that.
She heard the door close but nothing after that, it returned to being deathly silent. Mauve felt her heart in her ears even as her breathing completely ceased. The fact that she could not hear him move around her room was equally disturbing.
Mauve brought her hand closer to her chest as the seconds dragged on. She wasn't scared, just curious as to what he was doing in her room. She obviously couldn't ask as he would know she was awake.
Mauve heard his footsteps very close to her bed and her heart jumped into her mouth. She felt the sheet around her body move as he lifted it and Mauve did not realize when her mouth opened.
"What do you think you are doing?" She asked, turning around to look at him.
Jael didn't stop what he was doing and his shirtless self joined her in bed.
Mauve gasped and sat upright. "What do you think you are doing?" There was a red tint to her cheeks.
Jael punched the extra pillow before resting his head against it. "You did not seem to have a problem with it yesterday." There was a twinkle in his eyes as he eyed her.

Mauve instantly felt self-conscious and pulled the sheet to her chest even though there was nothing wrong with what she was wearing and he had seen her in her nighties before now.
"What does that mean?"
"I am sure you can take a guess," Jael smirked, his eyes on her never wavered and she could swear he was drinking her up.
Mauve eyes widened in horror. "We did not share a bed last night." She squeezed the sheets tighter as her mind churned. She tried to remember but her memory failed her. Could it be that something happened and she could not remember?
Jael's face fell at her response. "That's too bad even though I had tried to leave you something to remember me by. I guess you were just too drunk."
"I wasn't drun…" Mauve froze up as she felt his fingers on her thigh and the memory of what she thought was a dream came flooding through her mind.
