Chapter 63: 63. The Aftermath

A knock and the door pushed open, Mauve did not stir from under the sheets.

"Mauve," Mill yelled as she walked to the bed. "You didn't eat," she said in horror.

Mauve didn't reply, didn't even move from under the sheets.

"Mauve," Mill called softly.

No response.

She raised the cover sheets exposing Mauve.

"Leave me," Mauve said without opening her eyes.

"You have to eat princess, you can't stay in bed all day."

"Leave me!" She growled, pulled the sheets from Mill's hands, and wrapped herself with them.

Mill sighed audibly and Mauve heard the sound of her picking up the tray. A couple of seconds later she heard the sound of the door opening and closing.

Mauve relaxed into bed now that she knew she was all alone. She couldn't sleep and hadn't been able to sleep since she woke up hours ago. She knew remaining in bed wasn't hurting anybody but herself but she still couldn't find the courage to leave it.

Maybe tomorrow but for today, she will remain in bed. Tomorrow she was bound to feel better, she hoped. She folded so her knees were to her chest and she wrapped her hands around her knees.

Mauve heard the door burst open and she jerked but remained in the ball position. Barely two seconds later, she felt the bed dip. Mauve felt her eyes widen in horror as she realized.

"Mauve," his baritone voice echoed in her ears.

She shut her eyes tighter and brought her knees closer to her chest.

"Mauve," he repeated.

"Yes," she slowly replied.

"Will you eat or do I have to force it down your throat?"

Mauve threw the sheets off her body as she sat upright. How is that any way to comfort anyone?

She opened her mouth to yell at him and that was when realized, she had done nothing but stay in bed all day. Her hair must be a mess, her breath definitely stank and she had not showered. She clamped her mouth shut and just glared at him instead.

His hair stood up in a few places. She could tell he had run his hands through them a few times. She wondered what he was up to before he came here, his top two buttons were loose.

"What is going to be?" He asked with a stern look.

Mauve threw her face away.

"Mill, get her food." He ordered.

"I'll take my shower first," she blurted out, still looking away.

She partially covered her mouth with her hand as she spoke. The last thing she wanted was for him to take a whiff of whatever god-awful smell was oozing out of her lips.

She could feel his stare on her back.

"Then you will eat?" He asked, from his tone he didn't sound as though he didn't trust her.

She nodded.

"And if you don't?" He spun her so she would face him.

She bent her head and spoke into her hand. "I will, okay. Now, give me some privacy so I can take my bath."

"I don't think I need to leave for that to happen."

Mauve raised her head so fast her vision blurred. She looked at him with horror. "Surely, you meant that as a joke?" She asked, forgetting her nasty breath for a second.

He raised a brow at her as his eyes scanned her body. Mauve reddened and instinctively covered her chest even though nothing was exposed.

"Mill," he called out. She was still standing by the door. "If she doesn't eat the last meal, let me know." He turned his gaze back to Mauve. "You won't like the alternative."

He gently touched her left cheek and she fought the urge to smack his hand away. She glared at him and he smirked at her.

He stood up from the bed and strutted to the door. Mauve stared daggers at his back, hoping her eyes could at least stab him. Most of her sadness has evaporated and all she could feel was an annoyance and a little bit of anger.

He got to the door and glanced at her before he walked out the door. Mauve sneered at the closed door. Mill had gone out with him so she was alone again.

He could have at least been sympathetic to her plight, instead, he had given her orders as though she didn't have a good enough reason to be in bed. If she wasn't already tired of being in bed, she would have still had to leave it because disobeying his order was completely out of the question.

Jael was nice to her now but she could tell that when he got angry, it was pretty bad. She at least knew to avoid that. She recalled how the guards sounded worried about getting her to the castle in one piece. She wondered what would have happened if they did not.

She jumped out of the bed, she was used to people leaving her all the time. This was no different. She couldn't leave, she was stuck here. The least she could do was try to make the most of it.

At least Vae got out but even if she could leave, there was no point. Some people cared about her well-being here. Guards who would put her safety over hers, sure they had to but she was looking at the bright side of things.

A loud knock echoed in the room and Mauve said, "Come in," Mack walked in and behind him, his sister followed.

Mack dropped the tub and fled. The door closed and Mill walked toward Mill. "Would you like me to help you wash, Mauve?" I understand that Vae did that."

Mauve looked at her with a stun expression, "Oh you don't have to. I can wash myself. However, it's hard to take care of my hair myself."

Mill's face lit up, "Of course. Don't hesitate to ask me for anything. The King has put you in my charge. I will do my best to make your stay here agreeable."

Mauve smiled softly at her, "Thank you."
