Chapter 357: Chapter 357: Your Son, I Find Him Dirty

"And this is?"

"My friend, Victor Vance. A very talented designer."

After speaking, Naomi Kenway gave a little twirl. The layered skirt swirled around her, her movements full of grace. "This outfit was custom-made for me by her. What do you think? Beautiful, isn’t it?"

The pride in Naomi Kenway’s voice deeply moved Victor Vance. When others mentioned her, even her own parents, they did so furtively. But Naomi’s tone was proud and open, filling Victor with gratitude.

Margaret Jennings smiled and said, "It’s beautiful. That wine-red suits you perfectly; it makes your skin look so fair." She smiled, taking Naomi Kenway’s hand. Her gaze was kind and gentle, as if she were looking at her own sister. "A natural beauty."

The sound of children’s laughter drifted over. Carina Sanders had taken Ian Shaw’s hand, and the two were chatting and giggling together.

As they walked on, Naomi Kenway noticed quite a few guests milling about, all in formal suits. ’Looks like Christina Lynch really put a lot of effort into staging this little play,’ she thought.

Naomi Kenway and Victor Vance exchanged a look.

This was for the best. They wouldn’t have to go to the trouble of generating their own publicity.

The main venue for Renee Jennings’s birthday party was the Lynch Family’s open-air garden. The entire space was decorated warmly, with flowers and balloons everywhere.

Christina Lynch and Renee Jennings were at the entrance greeting guests, dressed in color-coordinated formalwear with radiant smiles on their faces. They stood extremely close, presenting the perfect picture of a loving couple. No one would ever guess at the discord between them; it was as if their fight at the kindergarten a few days prior had never happened.

’A born actor, truly.’

Naomi Kenway sneered inwardly.

Renee Jennings was in a white gown, her long, silky hair styled in a bun. Her faint smile was both innocent and captivating. She clung to Christina Lynch’s arm, nestling against him with the air of a delicate, doting wife.

Naomi Kenway walked over, pleased to see Renee Jennings’s expression instantly shift. Christina Lynch also froze, his eyes locked on Victor Vance as if staring down a mortal enemy.

Naomi was about to go in when Christina Lynch blocked her path. He held out an arm, but his gaze was fixed on Victor Vance. "My apologies, but this party is for invited guests only. I don’t suppose... this lady has an invitation?"

Renee Jennings added, "You can’t come in without an invitation. After all, it’s not like any random person can just walk into our party." She raised her voice and called for security.

"Shut up!" Naomi Kenway cut her off impatiently, then motioned for Victor Vance to produce the invitation.

Victor Vance pulled an invitation from her bag and held it up. "The invitation is right here."

Staring at the gold-embossed invitation, Renee Jennings’s expression crumbled. "How could you possibly have an invitation?!" she blurted out. She instinctively glanced at Christina Lynch, but he was just as baffled, with no idea where Victor Vance could have obtained it.

Naomi Kenway prompted impatiently, "Is that sufficient? I bring my friend to your party, and this is how the Lynch Family treats its guests? By calling security to throw them out? Don’t forget who it was that called me repeatedly, begging me to attend. Did you really think I wanted to come? I’m only here to give the Lynch Family some face."

Christina Lynch hesitated. Beside him, with tears welling in her eyes, Renee Jennings pleaded, "Nathaniel, quickly, have them thrown out! Naomi Kenway must have brought Victor Vance here with ill intentions. They’re probably trying to ruin the party! I won’t feel safe until they’re gone..."

Just as Christina Lynch was about to speak, Sophia Zobel’s ecstatic voice rang out. She had dressed for the occasion in a dark red dress and an agate necklace, her every step exuding wealth and dignity.

"Well now, Mrs. Shaw! What favorable wind has blown you our way?" she said, walking over joyfully. "Please, come inside, come inside!"

Naomi Kenway smiled. "I wouldn’t dare." She glanced aside. "Best Actor Lynch and his wife are blocking the entrance, saying they’re going to have security throw us out!"

"What?!" Sophia Zobel’s voice rose unintentionally. She reached out and pinched Christina Lynch. "Have you no sense? I sent several invitations just to get Mrs. Shaw to attend, and you’re stopping her at the door?"

Christina Lynch’s expression faltered. "You sent her the invitation?"

"What nonsense are you spouting? Do you think Mrs. Shaw would have graced us with her presence if I hadn’t invited her?" Her face was wreathed in smiles. Seeing Naomi Kenway so exquisitely dressed made her feel both delighted and honored. ’Naomi’s willingness to come must mean she’s ready to bury the hatchet and make peace with the Lynch Family.’

The smile on Sophia Zobel’s face deepened. "I’ve had a room specially prepared for you to rest, Mrs. Shaw. Please, bring your child and follow me inside." She looked at Ian with praise. "Look at this handsome boy! We can’t have him getting a sunburn. Hurry inside, hurry inside."

"Mom!" Renee Jennings couldn’t stand her mother-in-law’s fawning display any longer and cut her off. "Look who’s with Naomi Kenway! She brought Victor Vance with her! She’s here to crash the party!"

It took a moment for Sophia Zobel to process this. Her eyes finally fell on the person standing next to Naomi Kenway. She rubbed them, finding it hard to believe what she was seeing. "...Victor Vance?"

It was no wonder Sophia didn’t recognize her; Victor Vance was a world away from her former self. Before, she used to wear casual clothes at home with just a simple jade bracelet on her wrist. Now, however, she was dressed in an exquisitely tailored, moon-white qipao, with a string of fine pearls around her neck. Though her eyes still held their familiar gentle warmth, it was as if she had been completely made over.

Sophia Zobel’s surprise quickly curdled into disgust. "How did you find this place? Didn’t we agree to have nothing more to do with each other? It’s useless for you to come crawling back shamelessly. My son is already remarried! Can’t you just let things end amicably?"

"I have no interest in your son," Victor Vance retorted instinctively. "Your son... I find him filthy."

Sophia Zobel’s face contorted with rage. "You!"

"Why the sudden anger?" Naomi Kenway interjected. "I merely brought a friend with me. What’s with all the hostile looks? Are you trying to embarrass me on purpose? Or do you simply look down on me?"

"No, no, no," Sophia Zobel stammered. "We would never look down on you. It’s just..."

"Looking down on my friend is the same as looking down on me." Naomi Kenway finished with a cold snort. "If we’re not welcome, fine. Sonny, we’re leaving."

"No, no, no!" Sophia Zobel’s eyes darted about before she hurried over. "Please, come inside. Come inside."

"Mom!" Christina Lynch cried out, his expression complex.

"Shut up!" Sophia Zobel snapped, furious at his spinelessness. "Her being here won’t cost you a pound of flesh, will it? If you keep being this clueless, I can’t save you when your brother comes down on you!"

Christina Lynch fell silent. Beside him, Renee Jennings bit her lip, her face a mask of terror as she remembered what Naomi Kenway had said the day before.

’Could it be...?’

Victor Vance followed Naomi Kenway inside, her hand instinctively tightening around her phone. The contact she’d arranged everything with beforehand had told her that all was in place. All they needed now was the final trigger.
