Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Leo Lennox

Christina Lynch and Renee Jennings came into the living room. Renee kept glancing toward the upstairs bedroom and couldn’t help but say, "Mona is just a child. He’s only six. Why are you being so hard on him?"

"He’s been getting more rebellious and disobedient since he turned five. Now he even dares to disown you as his mother and smash your phone. When I get old, he’ll probably unplug my oxygen tank!" Christina Lynch sat on the sofa, his face flushed with anger.

Renee Jennings sighed.

"When we first got together, I promised I’d never let you suffer any grievance. I can’t believe Mona was so rude to you this time." Christina Lynch personally handed her a cup of herbal tea. "Don’t worry. I’ll discipline him properly."

Renee Jennings didn’t take the cup, her expression still troubled.

Christina Lynch finally noticed her sullen mood. He quickly sat beside her and put an arm around her shoulder. "What’s wrong? Did someone upset you?"

"Well..." Renee Jennings put on a troubled expression. "I don’t want to bother you with such unpleasant things. I know you’re always so busy with work, and I don’t want to ruin your mood, Nathaniel."

"We’re husband and wife. Your problems are my problems. Rachel, why are you treating me like a stranger?"

"It’s not that serious, really. Do you remember that agent I mentioned to you before, Laura Grant?"

Christina Lynch thought for a moment. "The agent who really admires you? Laura Grant is definitely talented. Working with her would certainly take your acting career to the next level."

"But a situation has come up. I had already worked things out with Laura Grant, but then someone backed by big money suddenly swooped in and stole the opportunity..." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Who?" Anger flashed across Christina Lynch’s face. Ever since Renee Jennings had entered show business, he had protected her both openly and from behind the scenes. He’d never allowed her to be wronged like this.

Seeing Christina Lynch take the bait, Renee Jennings let out a silent sigh of relief. Her tone grew even more pitiful. "It’s Naomi Kenway! That pretty-faced airhead with a scandalous reputation! I’ve been on a variety show with her recently, and she’s just so arrogant and domineering. She’s always using money to bribe the production team. I really can’t stand her anymore!"

Renee Jennings went on pouring out her grievances, tears streaming artfully down her face.

Christina Lynch took out a handkerchief to wipe her tears, but he made no offer to stand up for her.

Renee Jennings’s heart sank. She grabbed his hand, her voice choked with sobs. "Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you just going to stand by and let Naomi Kenway walk all over me?"

"Rachel, listen to me." Christina Lynch frowned. "You’re a newcomer to show business, so you might not know about Naomi Kenway. She once insulted the internationally renowned director Chase Warren. You’ve heard of him, right? He’s not just a famous director; he’s also good friends with many titans of the business world."

"What does that have to do with me?"

"After Naomi Kenway publicly ripped into Chase Warren, she came out completely unscathed and continued to land major roles. So many people in this industry can’t stand her, yet no one has ever managed to bring her down. Haven’t you ever wondered why?"

Renee Jennings’s expression tensed. "She has a sponsor?"

"I don’t know if it’s a sponsor, but she definitely has powerful connections."

"So? Are you scared, Nathaniel? You just promised you’d never let me be wronged..." Renee Jennings pulled out a handkerchief and dabbed at her eyes. "In terms of financial power, the Lynch Family is hardly lacking. Are you saying we should just let some vapid starlet step all over us?!"

"Rachel, the reason I’ve thrived in this industry is partly due to my acting skills, but it’s also because I believe that discretion is the better part of valor. It’s best not to get involved in risky situations..."

’This is what I despise most about him,’ Renee Jennings scoffed internally, ’this timid, cautious nature. How can someone with no guts ever accomplish anything great? No wonder Christina Lynch is just a figurehead at the company, while all the real power is in his brother Stephen Lynch’s hands.’

Seeing that Renee Jennings wasn’t speaking, Christina Lynch patiently tried to soothe her with a few more words, promising to help her land the role of the second female lead in a hit drama.

Renee Jennings knew to quit while she was ahead. She leaned against Christina Lynch’s chest demurely. "You’re right, Nathaniel. You’re much more thorough. I’ll listen to whatever you say."

「Veridia General Hospital.」

Outside the operating room.

Laura Grant paced restlessly in the hallway, her purse slung over her shoulder, glancing toward the operating room every few moments.

"You’re making me dizzy. Come sit down for a while," Naomi Kenway said, beckoning her over.

Laura Grant sat down beside Naomi Kenway and hesitated for a moment before speaking. "This is all thanks to you. I wanted to give you my sincerest thanks."

Naomi Kenway waved a dismissive hand. "You’ve been a dedicated and responsible agent for me, so it’s only natural that I make sure you’re taken care of. This is a win-win partnership."

The doors to the operating room opened, and Leo Lennox stepped out. His hair was streaked with gray, and he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

Laura Grant hurried over. "Professor Lennox, how is my husband?"

"The surgery was a success. As long as he cooperates with the post-op treatment, I’m confident he’ll make a full recovery before long."

Laura Grant clasped her hands together, tears of excitement welling in her eyes. She bowed repeatedly. "Thank you, Professor Lennox! Thank you so very much!"

"The patient should be conscious by now. You can go in and see him."

Before the words were even out of his mouth, Laura Grant had dashed into the operating room.

"Uncle Lennox," Naomi Kenway called out sweetly.

’Leo Lennox was one of the few close friends my mother had before she passed away, and he always looked out for me. It’s just that I was so immature in the past and embarrassed him more than once.’

A smile touched Leo Lennox’s eyes. "Nina, I’m truly happy you came to see me. You don’t have any appearances scheduled for later, do you? Go wait in my office for a bit. I’ll change and be right over."

Naomi Kenway nodded. "Okay."

Naomi Kenway waited for a short while in Leo Lennox’s office. Her gaze fell upon a picture frame on his desk. The photo inside had yellowed with age, but she could still make out that it was a graduation picture.

The door swung open, and Leo Lennox came in. He had changed out of his scrubs and was now wearing a simple, casual shirt, looking remarkably unassuming.

Naomi Kenway stood up. "Uncle Lennox."

Leo Lennox studied her for a moment, then nodded. "You look much better than you did before. You seemed so dispirited then. You’re handling things more maturely, too. You’ve really grown up. Please, sit."

Leo Lennox sat down opposite her. When he noticed her eyes were fixed on the graduation photo, he smiled. "That picture has some years on it. It was taken thirty years ago. Time flies, doesn’t it?"

Naomi Kenway pointed to a beautiful woman in the photo with shoulder-length hair and said with certainty, "This is my mother."

A look of gratification filled Leo Lennox’s eyes. "You recognized her from her youth right away. I’m sure Rose would be very happy. You are her only daughter, after all."

Leo Lennox gazed at the photo with a nostalgic air before looking back up at her. "How have things been? You’re struggling all by yourself in the entertainment industry. Has anyone been giving you trouble?"

"I’m doing well. I’m currently on a good variety show."

Leo Lennox nodded. "That’s good."

Leo Lennox knew a fair amount about Naomi Kenway’s situation. He paused for a moment, then asked, "Are you and Ethan Shaw still at an impasse?"

After a slight pause, Naomi Kenway nodded.

Leo Lennox sighed. "Ethan Shaw is a responsible man, and he’s outstanding in every way. I admire him. But don’t you let yourself be mistreated. If you suffer any injustice, you must tell me. I promised... I promised your mother I would always look after you."
