The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 76: The Most Approachable One is Naomi Kenway
"Does Ian usually like to read these fluffy storybooks?" Renee Jennings asked.
Naomi Kenway glanced at her. "He likes fairy tales."
Renee Jennings’s face was full of disapproval. "Nina, that’s where you’re wrong. All the kids these days are multitalented. Letting Ian read this kind of fluff all day won’t make him any smarter. Children have no self-control, so we have to keep a closer eye on them."
Renee Jennings straightened her back, as if she had finally found an area where she could completely crush Naomi Kenway. "I can’t speak for other things, but I’m quite experienced when it comes to educating children. Nathan’s wall of awards is the best proof of that."
"Can’t speak for other things?" Naomi Kenway smiled at her. "You seem to have plenty to say."
Renee Jennings’s smile froze. She hadn’t expected Naomi Kenway to be so disrespectful to her, especially with the cameras rolling.
Her expression turned cold. "Nina, what do you mean by that?"
"It’s perfectly normal for children to have time for fun. Their childhoods should be happy and joyful. Listening to the schedule you’ve set for Nathan, I almost thought you were having him prep for his college entrance exams a decade early."
Naomi Kenway crossed one long leg over the other and gave her a dismissive glance.
"How do you know Nathan doesn’t have time to play? It’s not like you can watch him around the clock, can you?" Renee Jennings retorted.
"I was trying to share my parenting experience with you out of goodwill, but I didn’t expect you to be so ungrateful, Nina. But don’t blame me for not warning you—a child like Ian who only knows how to play and never studies is bound to be a failure sooner or later!"
"How do you know Ian never studies? It’s not like I have to report his progress to you around the clock."
Naomi Kenway replied coolly, throwing Renee Jennings’s own words back at her.
Renee Jennings scoffed and turned away, ignoring Naomi Kenway.
’I offer her a piece of advice, and she’s completely ungrateful? From the way Ian’s turning out, he’ll be a good-for-nothing someday!’ she thought indignantly.
Naomi Kenway was leaning back on the sofa with her eyes closed, resting, when a soft voice suddenly spoke up. It was melodious and incredibly pleasant to the ear.
"This is some homemade jerky. Please, have a taste."
Naomi Kenway opened her eyes and saw a beautiful young woman standing before her. She was wearing an apron and had the faint smell of cooking oil on her, as if she had just come from the kitchen.
"Thank you," Naomi Kenway said.
"I’m Sue-Ellen, the daughter-in-law of the family here."
Naomi Kenway extended her hand and shook hers. "A pleasure to meet you."
In contrast to her soft voice, Sue-Ellen had a bright, open smile. She looked up and saw Ian reading a storybook. "Oh!" she exclaimed. "Why are you reading that one? This one doesn’t have any phonetic guides. A little boy like you probably can’t read it, right?"
Ian Shaw shook his head.
Surprised, Sue-Ellen pointed to a random word. "What does this word say?"
"’Principal.’ The one that means ’main,’ not the one at a school."
Ian not only pronounced the word correctly, he even clarified which one it was.
"Incredible!" Sue-Ellen exclaimed in amazement. "You’re so young, and you even know that word. Can you read this paragraph for me?"
Ian glanced at it and read it aloud, word for word. His pronunciation was perfect, without a single mistake.
Sue-Ellen clucked her tongue in praise. "Incredible, just incredible! A celebrity’s child really is different. So smart!"
"Here, Auntie will give you a piece of candy as a reward!" Sue-Ellen pulled a candy from her pocket.
Renee Jennings watched from the side with a suspicious gaze. ’How could Ian Shaw know so many words at only four years old? Could this Sue-Ellen be a plant hired by Naomi Kenway?’
Although she had no evidence for this suspicion, it seemed like the most logical explanation at the moment.
’Naomi Kenway is so despicable, always trying to build up her public persona no matter where she goes,’ Renee Jennings thought indignantly.
A short while later, the other guests began to arrive one by one.
Chelsea Raines yawned. "What’s our mission this time? The task card wasn’t very clear."
The tour guide cleared his throat and said, "Everyone, please settle down. First, let me introduce you to a family from our Lyrish Village, the family of Ford Warren."
Inside the villa were only Ford Warren, his wife Aunt Phoebe, and their daughter-in-law Sue-Ellen. Ford Warren’s son was away on a business trip and hadn’t returned yet.
Ford Warren was around fifty years old, with hair that was still jet-black and shiny. He was on the heavier side, with a gold chain around his neck. When he grinned, he even revealed a gold tooth.
He boomed with enthusiasm, "Don’t be formal, everyone! If there’s anything you want to eat, just tell me. As long as it can be found in the county, I’ll get it for you!"
Aunt Phoebe was also dressed ostentatiously, in a floral shirt with two shockingly thick gold bracelets on her wrist. Her demeanor was just as boisterous as Ford Warren’s.
Sue-Ellen was dressed more elegantly and had a gentle smile.
The guests had lost quite a bit of public favor during the first episode for mooching a meal after digging potatoes. Well aware of this, they dropped their airs and greeted Ford Warren’s family one by one.
Chelsea Raines also managed a rare, wide smile. Her son, Jared, had just polished off the entire plate of jerky. As the saying goes, it’s hard to be rude to someone whose food you’ve just eaten.
Aunt Phoebe smiled. "Breakfast will be ready soon. Please wait just a moment."
Then, the whole family went into the kitchen to get busy.
Naomi Kenway couldn’t just sit still, so she also went to the kitchen. "Is there anything I can help with?"
[Everyone used to say Naomi Kenway was a diva, but now it seems that’s not the case at all!]
[What’s going on? Why do I feel like Naomi Kenway is actually the most down-to-earth one? After all, the other guests are just sitting and resting on the sofa.]
[There’s no need to put the others down, is there? It’s not like the other guests did anything wrong.]
[It’s not about being right or wrong, it’s a matter of attitude.]
...
Seeing Nathan Lynch studying so diligently, the other guests also began to urge their own children to study.
Renee Jennings’s gaze followed Naomi Kenway to the kitchen. ’I can’t believe she’s so good at sucking up! She had no problem confronting me, but now she’s putting on this diligent act for the cameras!’
"Nathan, you work on your problems for a bit. Mom’s going to the kitchen to help," Renee Jennings said, standing up and heading toward the kitchen as well.
’Naomi can’t be the only one getting all the credit for being helpful.’
"I’m here to help in the kitchen."
Naomi Kenway glanced at her, then looked back down and continued chopping vegetables.
Aunt Phoebe said with a smile, "You should go out and rest. We have enough hands already."
Of course, Renee Jennings wasn’t about to leave. "Just let me do something, anything. I feel too bad just watching you all work so hard in the kitchen." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Her words were so sincere and heartfelt that Aunt Phoebe felt too embarrassed to refuse her again. "Alright then, dear, could you help me clean these vegetables?"
Renee Jennings was satisfied. "Okay."
Renee Jennings squatted on the floor to clean the vegetables. A competitive thought was on her mind, and she meticulously picked every single yellowed leaf off the spinach, leaving it perfectly clean.
Aunt Phoebe praised with a smile, "You and Nina are both so capable."
Renee Jennings smiled shyly.
Suddenly, with a loud CLANG, the bowl in Sue-Ellen’s hands slipped and fell to the floor. It was full of marinated New Orleans-style chicken wings, and much of the sauce splattered onto Renee Jennings’s pants.
Renee Jennings jumped back. "What are you doing?! Do you have any idea how expensive these pants are?!!"
