The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss-Chapter 52: Six Months
More... More...
With every kill, more mana essence entered my body, while at the same time being directed into the egg near me.
The cycle had now come to a standstill, with both the absorption and transfer of essence becoming nearly equal.
I could feel the egg gaining its vitality.
And with it, I could also feel a certain pull in my mind.
Hm?
It felt like something was trying to communicate with me.
I glanced at the egg. Maybe it was finally awakening its identity.
I didn’t resist the intrusion in my mind and let the egg develop the connection between the two of us.
I couldn’t hear its thoughts, but I could feel its emotions.
It seemed happy to be fed!
It was grateful.
It was—
There were a myriad of emotions that the egg conveyed, and I could also feel the pace of its absorption slowing down.
The egg might have noticed the risk of blindly absorbing the essence from my body. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
But...
Keep going.
I instructed the egg. Even though it was draining a lot of mana essence from my body, there were still quite a few monsters remaining.
I wanted it to absorb the entirety of the mana essence that could be juiced out from their filthy bodies.
And my message seemed to have reached the egg.
It complied with my instruction. The egg was surprisingly docile and subservient towards me.
I knew it!
My choice was the best.
The risk was worth the rewards. Even without being actually born, the egg was already following my wishes.
It knew who it had to be grateful towards.
I was the one who had made it possible for this egg to evolve and be born from its previous state.
Judging from normal logic, it might have been stuck in this state for an unknown period of time.
Possibly spanning thousands of years, or even more.
Spurt!
I continued to kill the monsters left in my vicinity.
Now almost all of them had been killed, with only a few breathing their last moments.
I willed more of my mana control to make sure to absorb every ounce of essence that was released by these monsters upon their death.
Sometimes a small part of the essence leaked into the air before being absorbed into my body.
It was something beyond my control.
Still, I tried my best not to waste any of the harvested essence.
Spurt!
Done.
I absorbed the mana essence from the last monster and transferred it into the egg.
As the egg absorbed the last bits of essence that I had supplied, I resisted the flow of essence going into the egg.
Seeing it as a signal, the egg stopped absorbing any more essence from my body.
Haa...
I had succeeded.
It was good that the egg cooperated with me in the end, or else I still wasn’t confident enough in stopping it from forcefully absorbing my entire mana essence.
The egg glowed once and then reverted back to its original state.
The mana particles in the air had also settled down.
Arthur had stopped releasing his mana pressure the moment I had killed the last monster.
"Did it awaken?" Arthur asked, approaching me.
"It still hasn’t developed a consciousness, but I can now feel its thoughts in my mind.
Not directly, but only after touching its shell."
Arthur nodded at my words.
"And what about the seed?"
"There’s no need to do anything on that part,"
I replied.
When my mind had formed a bond with the egg, I could feel a different connection being formed subconsciously in my mind.
Though I didn’t know its source, I had a fairly accurate guess.
"The seed and the egg are both connected in some way. I don’t think we would need to supply any essence to the seed."
I had a feeling that when the time came, the seed would come to life on its own.
The essence it needed to sustain its evolution was being provided by the egg in ways I couldn’t yet determine.
There was silence between us.
Neither of us spoke, but we shared the same thoughts.
Anyone would be excited to have formed a connection with something that could be of mythical rank, and to have the possibility of controlling its power in the future.
Thump... thump...
Fuu...
I let out a shallow breath to calm my beating heart.
According to my analysis, I had a rough estimate.
It would still take around six months for the being inside the egg to be born.
And for all those months, I would have to provide it with mana essence on a continuous basis.
The quantity would be far less compared to today’s consumption.
It was more like feeding the egg every day to help curb its hunger.
It had been dormant for so long. By supplying it with such a tremendous amount of mana essence, I had finally awakened it to some extent. Now I just had to make sure it could sustain its current state.
There was no need to provide such immense amounts of mana essence anymore, as the egg could now develop itself on its own.
I only had to feed it essence continuously, without any gaps.
Now all I had to do was train.
I was currently at Bronze 1. Though I could quickly increase my rank by killing more monsters and absorbing their essence...
I didn’t want to.
If I resorted to the easy way, I would grow stronger—there was no doubt about that.
Combined with my mana control, I could become one of the best in the entire world, but...
Was that enough?
Would I be satisfied with that?
If I trained harder and made my foundation stronger—cultivating like normal people while also absorbing mana essence—I could grow to become not just one of the best, but the supreme best this world had ever seen.
Being average had never been my goal.
The enemies I would make as X would be magnitudes stronger than me.
None of my fights would be easy.
So there was no chance in hell I was going to take the easy way out.
A year and a half.
I was waiting...
For my Academy life to begin!
