The Villainess Married The Evil CEO-Chapter 197: This Is A Goodbye
When eating food, Owen pulled Abigail up from her bed. She had been merely resting, not sleeping deeply as he brought her to the dining room once again. He went toward the dining table and turned on the TV before settling beside her.
He had a dish full of food that he started feeding to the woman beside her bit by bit. At this time, he was already feeling like he had turned into a household husband who was proficient in taking care of his sick wife.
He sighed and continued to feed her. Just then, Abigail’s body stiffened as she stared at the TV unblinkingly. Tears rolled down her cheeks all of a sudden, making Owen’s heart jump.
What happened? Why was she crying again? Then he glanced there only to find that the channel was a news channel which showed Nicholas’s death and how his ’killer’ had run away with a psychiatrist. It was now that Owen learned that he had also been converted into a criminal by the media all over the place.
He pursed his lips and changed the channel, playing music instead. Then he placed the bowl down and turned toward Abigail, saying seriously, "Abigail, what died was Nicholas’s body. His consciousness, his entire being is entirely within me. Even though I’m not like him, and I can never be him, can you pretend for the sake of your sanity that it’s not me but your husband taking care of you?"
Honestly, he wanted her to love him, but since that couldn’t happen, he was also okay with becoming his own substitute. He pursed his lips as he said, "Can you do this for yourself?"
Abigail stared at him as she thought, ’Was this person stupid? He clearly loved her, but he also wants me to love him back as someone else.’
If she didn’t know the truth, she would have decided to ignore him. But right now, she only found his reaction to be a bit cute. Thus, the sadness that had come after seeing Nicholas’s face disappeared without a trace as she let out a genuine smile. She raised her weak hand that trembled because of powerlessness and gently patted the man’s cheek. But that action itself seemed to have used up all of her energy as her hand fell back on her chair.
Owen was obviously stunned after seeing that reaction. He didn’t know what to make out of it, but he guessed that it should be something good, right?
His heart suddenly thumped in his chest as he smiled and simply started feeding her. For a while, the entire atmosphere in the room was filled with traces of ambiguity since even the TV was playing romantic songs in the background.
After eating, he finished cleaning the dishes as Abigail continued to watch the TV before the two of them went to bed. It was already too late to sleep, but since neither of them had work, they both headed to their separate rooms to sleep.
At first, Owen wanted to sleep with her since, not like having sex or something, but he truly wanted to see whether she would need his help or not since she couldn’t even speak. But when he actually thought of sleeping beside her...
He should say that he was too embarrassed to bring up that topic. Thus, after tucking her in her blanket, he proceeded to go toward his own room only to have his wrist caught by the woman. He turned back only to face the woman’s anxious glance darting toward him. She looked like she wanted to express that she wasn’t ready to sleep alone and really wanted him to accompany her for whatever reasons.
Owen didn’t dare to ask her what her reasons were. He sighed and said, "I’ll bring my blanket and pillow, okay?"
The anxious Abigail, who had already lost this man twice, nodded as she pursed her lips, curling up in the blanket. She looked utterly pitiful.
Seeing her, Owen sighed and walked toward the room he had prepared for himself and brought his blanket with him. At this time, before he could even go inside, he got a call.
It was his mom.
Ah, he had forgotten to tell her.
He hesitated before picking up the call. On the other side, an anxious sounding middle-aged woman spoke to him, "Owen! Where are you?! How could you run away with your patient, a criminal at that?! Come back right this instant, you hear me?"
"Mom," Owen knew this would happen, and thus, he was calmer than before as he walked toward the balcony as he sighed and said, "She is innocent, and she was targeted by Rosa. It’s not her fault."
The middle-aged woman stayed silent for a moment as if she were trying to sink his words deeper into her veins. Then she sighed and said, "Whatever be the case, you shouldn’t butt your heads with these people. These wealthy families are way harder to handle. Owen, why don’t you surrender her to the authorities? I’m sure that the police would take care of that. Owen, you’re the only one I;ve left. Please...."
The middle-aged woman wept silently as she took shuddered breaths. She didn’t say anything else after that as her silent weeping noise came through the speaker.
Owen frowned uncomfortably. He didn’t speak for a while, but he knew that he had to say goodbye to his mom just in case.
It wasn’t that he didn’t care about her. He did, but he also had an otherworldly obsession with Abigail that he couldn’t get rid of no matter what. He knew one thing for sure, if he were to let Abigail suffer and get tortured, he probably wouldn’t be able to live either.
Thus, since he was going to die anyway, why not die saving Abigail?
He pursed his lips and said, "Mom, this is a good bye. Take care of yourself."
Before he could hear his mother’s words further, he hung up the call and even blocked his number. Then he took a deep breath and stared at the balcony for a moment to calm himself.
He didn’t even know what he was doing anymore, but....
He turned around to glance at Abigail’s room and sighed.
His priorities seemed to have made a tremendous change after getting those memories. He knew he couldn’t stay away from her anymore. He couldn’t. Even if he had been forced to die, he would rather die saving her than dying out of heartbreak.
