The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 108: Kill Them, Okay?
Blackwater Swamp.
Evangeline had no idea that several men had already gone mad, teaming up to begin the search for her.
She was leaning against the edge of the bed, her slender calves resting on Nix’s lap. He was half-kneeling on the floor, his long fingers carefully wiping the swamp mud from her snow-white skin.
"What does it mean for The Swarm to pour out of their nest?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Nix lifted his gaze to Evangeline, his violet eyes full of darkness. "You don’t know about The Swarm?"
"I know about The Swarm..." Evangeline frowned slightly. "They’re the only race on the Beastman Continent without a Star Pattern, yet they are extremely deadly. But they’ve always remained dormant in The Sunken Vale, where Norfell and the Triangle Sea meet. They rarely come out."
Nix rose slowly, his long fingertips tracing the line of her thigh, slow and dangerous.
He leaned in and whispered by her ear, "The Swarm is bloodthirsty; they feed on the flesh of the living. The rainy season is when they are most restless, but they usually don’t venture far from The Sunken Vale."
At this point, he let out a soft chuckle, the pad of his finger brushing carelessly across her lower abdomen.
"This time... it’s different. Perhaps because the rainy season came too early, or maybe a flash flood destroyed their nests..." A hint of amusement played on his androgynous face.
"Or perhaps... something more alluring drew them out."
As he spoke, a dark light swirled in Nix’s violet eyes. His gaze was almost tangible as it traced Evangeline’s bewitching features. ’Who would have thought that such a beautiful female could be so ruthless?’
"What are you talking in riddles for?" Evangeline’s eyes turned cold in an instant as she seized Nix’s wrist.
"Angry?" Nix’s long eyelashes cast two shadows beneath his eyes. The amusement in his violet pupils faded, solidifying into a cold, dead stillness.
He allowed Evangeline to keep hold of his wrist, leaning in slightly so their breaths mingled.
His thin, crimson lips curled into a smile. "Speaking of which, that Beast Husband of yours from The Swarm... his death at your hands wasn’t very dignified, was it?"
As he spoke, the end of Nix’s words lowered, carrying a bewitching malice. "Female Master, as far as I know, he was of The Swarm’s royal line. Tell me... if he were to be reborn from his cocoon, don’t you think he’ll come to collect his debt?"
Evangeline’s pupils shrank, her fingertips tightening unconsciously. "The Swarm? You mean... The Everwake?"
’I really didn’t know one of the original owner’s Beast Husbands was from The Swarm!’
’Of the original owner’s seven Beast Husbands, if one had to be from The Swarm, it could only be the last one.’
The Everwake. No Star Pattern, no clan, couldn’t even transform into a beast. He was worse off than a female. In the tribe, he was an expendable presence, ordered around and bullied at will by the other beastmen.
He always kept his eyes downcast, as silent as a shadow, as if he had even gone numb to pain.
The original owner naturally looked down on The Everwake. In her eyes, he was just trash—unable to hunt, unable to awaken any talents. In the dog-eat-dog Beastman Tribe, he was more insignificant than dust.
But they still formed a Contract.
It happened during a hot and humid rainy season, when the air was so sticky it was suffocating.
The original owner’s heat came on fiercely and suddenly, the fever making her vision swim.
At that time, The Everwake was kneeling in the shadows of the cave, silently wiping her dusty stone slate.
His head was bowed, the pale column of his neck bent in a fragile arc. Lacking the strength to hunt for beast skins, he could only cover his body with rough leaves, through which his gaunt bones were faintly visible.
Raindrops from the wet season trickled down the cave wall and dripped from his golden bangs.
He looked like a stray dog, soaked by the rain and with nowhere to go.
This time, it was The Everwake who initiated the Contract.
He knew very well that forming a Contract might allow him to use Evangeline’s status as the leader’s daughter to change his current situation of being trampled on by everyone. Even if it didn’t, he could at least get a full meal.
But he never imagined that the Contract would push him into a fatal predicament.
Once the original owner’s heat passed, she killed The Everwake.
The bone knife pierced The Everwake’s throat. His blood splashed onto her cheek, warm and cloying, as searing as the gasps during their lovemaking.
He was the only one of the seven Beast Husbands whose life she ended with her own hands.
As The Everwake lay dying, he wasn’t afraid. Instead, he smiled.
His body was carelessly tossed into a stream by "Evangeline," startling a school of fish.
’In the original plot, The Everwake did come back. It shows how resilient The Swarm is; he truly was reborn from his cocoon, just as Nix said. And while his temperament wasn’t the most rebellious, his killing intent was probably even stronger than Thorne’s.’
’Because she suddenly remembered that the females in the tribe who often bullied him had all disappeared without a trace later on. Was that really just a coincidence?’
"Female Master is thinking about that member of The Swarm?" Nix’s low, hoarse voice interrupted Evangeline’s thoughts.
She turned her head and met his demonic violet eyes, where a faint shimmer seemed to float in their depths.
"How do you know so much?" Evangeline half-lidded her eyes.
’A secondary personality knows more than I do, and I’m the one with the god’s-eye view.’
"Does Female Master wish to pry into my secrets?"
Nix’s fingertips traced a path down Evangeline’s spine as his cold voice sounded by her ear. "For a Plant Beastman born of heaven and earth, perception is our sharpest sense. Every root is one of my eyes."
Evangeline’s brow furrowed. "Are you saying Loras knew all along that The Everwake was one of The Swarm?"
Nix smiled faintly, his fingers twirling a lock of her dark hair. "Oh, he was very much looking forward to it..."
"Looking forward to seeing the tribe’s proudest female being infested by one of The Swarm."
"A pity. He was still just trash."
"Female Master was right to kill him."
As Nix’s words fell, Evangeline’s red lips pressed into a sharp line.
’A cold glint flashed in her eyes. As expected of an SSS-level mission at the top of the Transmigration Administration Bureau’s list. These so-called Beast Husbands... every single one is crazier than the last. Not a single one of them is normal!’
’Her so-called knowledge of the plot and her god’s-eye view were all limited to the original owner’s memories.’
’In the Transmigration Administration Bureau’s archives, this mission had always been marked with a scarlet "Unconquered" stamp. There was very little information to go on. Only by truly being here did she discover that so many unseen things were breeding madly in the shadows, baring their fangs and claws as they rushed toward her.’
Nix watched the silent Evangeline, a dark glimmer flashing through his violet eyes.
He leaned forward, his red lips covering Evangeline’s. Their breaths mingled, and amidst the intimate friction, a seductive whisper escaped him. "Female Master, kill them. Won’t you?"
The end of his voice carried a light chuckle laced with the scent of blood, a calm possessiveness churning in his violet eyes.
Evangeline shoved Nix away, wiped the crimson from her lips, and said coolly, "I’m going back."
The Swarm’s rampage would make the already difficult rainy season even worse. Thorne and Caden Albright were still waiting for her to return.
’Nix is a complete and utter madman. Rather than waste time here with him, I should go back and figure out how to solve the problem of this symbiotic dual personality.’
’The mission is stalled. I need to find a new path.’
"Go back?" Nix tilted his head, his violet eyes staring at Evangeline. They were filled with a morbid, dark light, and his low, hoarse voice was tinged with amusement. "Female Master is choosing them?"
His curly violet hair hung down, and a dark fragrance drifted around him.
A chilling, deathly stillness and gloom swept over them. His deep violet eyes seemed to contain all the malice in the world. "And what about me? Do I deserve to be left here to rot?"
