Chapter 22: Illusion II

Meanwhile,

wake...up...

A faint murmur tickled through Cassian's ears, attempting to wake him up from his deep slumber. The voice was soft and childish, sounding like a child's premature words.

The voice owner was none other than Leon, who was struggling to wake Cassian up. He tried communicating with him through their mental link but, it didn't seem to have worked at all as he was still in deep sleep.

Leon had sensed some emotional fluctuation within Cassian's mind while he was guarding the entrance and had hurriedly rushed over, to check up on him. Standing beside him, he noticed that his body was drenched in sweat from head to toe,his face contorted in pain, and his body was experiencing sudden convulsions. Every now and then, his body twitched and shuddered violently.

Sensing something was terribly wrong, Leon grabbed Cassian's wrist, trying to feel his pulse.

cold...

A shiver ran down Leon's spine as he noticed the unnatural chill seeping from Cassian's skin.

His entire body was freezingly cold and eerily pale, almost like a large portion of his blood had been sucked out from his body. Even his golden hair had begun turning white, frost creeping along the strands. Each exhale left behind a visible mist, his breath carrying an unnatural chill.

Leon's eyes sightly narrowed, sensing the precarious situation that he suddenly found himself in.

Despite all the knowledge he had absorbed from Zayn, he was still just a child. He had never encountered something like this before.

He thought for a while and decided to use a different approach to properly wake him up. After a brief moment of hesitation, He pressed his finger gently on Cassian's forehead and channeled some mana around it. His eyes were tightly shut in and his mind was completely focused on expanding the contractual link between them.

hmm...

hmm...

Darkness swirled around the tip of his fingers and slowly entered Cassian's consciousness. The murky tendrils of mana spread through his bloodstream, threading carefully through his veins, nerves, and organs. Leon was extremely careful during this process, controlling the mana from polluting his body or worse blocking his blood flow.

Darkness was generally considered a harmful and dangerous element capable of mass destruction and chaos. Only someone like Leon, a shadowborn with the highest darkness affinity could possibly try out something like this inside a living person's body. Due to their toxic nature, manipulating them carelessly could lead to dark-blood poisoning, coma, and even death.

The dark mana spiraled around the remnant mana inside his blood and attempted to overflow the input with his own mana.

The mana residue in the blood was an emergency backup, mostly utilized to prevent the body from losing instant control if the mana inside the Starseed were to be completely drained. These mana particles flow inside the blood in a passive state and immediately alert the mind in emergencies.

Leon was trying to forcibly reboot Cassian's body by overflowing the mana particles and alerting them, causing it to switch up from a passive state to an active state. This would alert his brain and cause him to react immediately, waking him up from his sleep.

The dark mana tinkered around with the mana particles, arousing them from their rest state. Upon contact, the opposing nature of darkness caused some immediate reaction from the mana particles, causing them to vibrate slightly upon contact. Each collision from the dark mana led a volatile reaction on the mana particles. One by one, they flickered awake, igniting in a faint golden glow that spread across Cassian's body.

The mana particles sensed some disturbace inside their body and swiftly took action, sending an alert signal to the brain.

What Leon didn't know was the cause of his deep slumber was something entirely different, something beyond his comprehension.

"Are you the apostle of the Ancient Sun?"

The voice was jagged and grating, like the incoherent mumblings of a madman. The entity was still in the form of Cassian's mother, staring at Cassian with its abyss-like black eyes with a wide, creepy smile stretched across its face.

"Ancient...Sun?"

BAM!

An invisible force struck his soul, sending a violent tremor through his being.

"Arghhh—!"

A tortured scream tore from Cassian's lips, raw with pain and fear.

The moment the words left his mouth, a blinding vision erupted in his mind—A foreign presence clawed at his consciousness, scraping against his very being as if trying to unearth something buried deep within. A memory. A truth.

Blinding light.

A burning sun.

It devoured his vision, consuming everything in its path until his thoughts turned to static, his awareness collapsing into darkness.

His thoughts turned to static, his consciousness spiraling into oblivion.

[Warning! Critical threat detected!]

[Restarting mi—]

Gasp!

His body jolted upright. His lungs burned as he sucked in a desperate breath, sweat dripping from his brow. His eyes, wide and alert, locked onto the entity before him.

It stared back, momentarily stunned.

"How?"

The creature's eerie smile faltered, confusion flashing across its distorted features.

Cassian clenched his fists, his heart still hammering in his chest.

A deep, unrelenting fury surged through his veins, white-hot and electrifying. He had no idea what had just happened, no idea what this thing wanted from him, but he didn't care.

"You..." His voice was a low, dangerous growl. "You've seriously pissed me off."

Golden light crackled around his fingertips, arcs of lightning dancing in the air. Power surged through his veins, a burning fury unlike any he had felt before.

"Thunder Purge!"

With a furious roar, he unleashed his wrath.

The combined light and lightning attack fell down on the entity's head from above, lighting up the entire room alongside it.

phew

"Did I hit it?" Cassian muttered, regulating his mana breathing. That simple attack took almost every bit of mana inside his Starseed. Thankfully, the entity was startled by something and allowed a moment of weakness.

"Impressive."

The bright light dimmed down and from inside, it spoke, It's voice filled with curiosity and amusement.

"You're still alive!" He remarked, remaining vigilant. This thing was far tougher than it looked.

"I've wasted much of my strength but, I finally found someone worthy enough." It lifted its arms and clasped them together, grinning menacingly at him.

"Very well, You've earned my recognition. I shall allow you to wield me for now." Marking those words, it slowly faded away into nothingness, leaving behind a dumbfounded Cassian.

"What the hell just happened? What do you mean 'recognition'? Hey, Stop right there and answer my questions!" Cassian yelled, trying to catch that guy.

woosh

'It' vanished completely, leaving Cassian all alone inside the illusion.

"Did I just get scammed? hmm...I feel like I got scammed." Shaking his head, he turned around and gave one last look at Anna. 'It was nice meeting you again. Although, this is just an illusion, I hope this becomes reality someday.'

With those final words, the illusion shattered apart and dissolved away, removing any traces of its happening.

Ba-Dump!

Ba-Dump!

Cassian's heart raged wildly, echoing through the entire make-shift house. Leon, hearing the heartbeat finally had a relieved expression in his face. He slowly retracted the dark mana within Cassian's body, expelling them through his ears and nose.

It looked quite grotesque and unappealing, seeing some unknown black substance coming out from your ears and nose. After a while, Cassian's eyes fluttered slightly and slowly revealed themselves.
