The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 430: Crossed the border
Chapter 430: Crossed the border
"Is this your first time?" Cedric asked, his gaze fixed on her as she attended to his wound, completely focused. "It is my first." She answered. He was impressed at how she didn’t flinch at the sight of the blood and did everything with steady arms
"The burns have healed but the cuts are very deep." She mentioned thinking that was the reason it wasn’t healing. Cedric knew there was an abnormality. His entire body felt like he was going to collapse from pain but he hid it.
"We should start moving." He said. They started moving immediately after Abrielle was done. Cedric had to take Evelyn’s horse while she chose to ride with Axel.
Their horses raced non-stop in the cold night, they had to cross the border before dawn, and luckily, Vesper shared a land border with a coastal kingdom. The position they had been teleported to was in the middle of a forest close to the kingdom.
It was a route rarely used to travel since the waterways were more accessible.
They didn’t consider fleeing through the ports of Dacronia. Cedric was certain Lucian had men searching for him there. Abrielle felt Cedric trembling, she knew he was in pain but she didn’t voice it out. She could only pray that Cedric wouldn’t collapse.
At the back, Elias’s eyes kept on glancing in Evelyn’s direction. She was also injured, although it wasn’t as severe as Cedric’s. He was still bothered. Why did she choose to ride with Axel instead of him? He wondered if that was her type after all. Evelyn had once mentioned that if she ever had to choose a top knight, it would be Axel.
Evelyn could feel Elias’s gaze on her back but she dared not glance at him. Close to dawn, they crossed the border and arrived at Litoralia, a coastal kingdom close to Dacronia with a neutral relationship.
Cedric was growing weak, his body numb but he didn’t stop. Abrielle noticed how his breath became heavy, she noticed he was getting drowsy all she could do was hold onto him.
"Let’s find somewhere to rest first." She suggested. A small farming town was close to the border, and a few miles from the border, they found an old cottage on a small farm.
Elias decided to knock on the door hoping to find a little shelter. They knocked the first time, but there was no answer after knocking for a bit. The door opened; it was a teenage girl, her eyes were hazy, as if she had been lazily robbing.
It was obvious she had just woken up. "Papa, why are you back this early?" The girl opened the door thinking it was her father. Her eyes went wide in shock finding a small group in front of her cottage that rarely has visitors.
"Please, can we spend the night here? One of my companions is injured" Elias asked, and she wanted to refuse. She knew her father wouldn’t be happy with her opening their doors to strangers but she was finding it hard to say no.
Elias’s looks captured her heart. It was the first time she had seen someone with such beautiful dark blue hair. She did hear rumours that some families carried such unique looks. She shook her head, "I live alone with my father, he won’t be happy when he gets back." She argued.
Elias sighed, his hazel eyes glanced at Evelyn, who was behind him. Abrielle was with Cedric a bit farther watching by a tree. Cedric could not hide his condition again and they were all worried how he could ride for so long in his condition.
Litoralia spoke a different language, which Elias knew since most nobles were taught multiple languages, especially that of their neighbours.
Elias placed his hand into his bag strapped to his waist and pulled out an old pendant made from gold and sapphire. "Will that change your mind?" He asked.
The girl’s eyes flickered. It was the first time she had seen gold so closely. She didn’t even recognise which precious stone was on the pendant, but could tell it was expensive. She stretched out her hand to accept it, and she examined the pendant and knew it was real.
It was glowing in the dark, under the dim torch light she held in one hand she spotted a carving at the back. Her thumb rubbed against it and realised it was a noble family crest. "This is from a noble family," she stated and Elias nodded.
"I don’t think I can accept something this expensive," she said, then shoved the pendant back. Elias held her hand and begged. "Please consider it. If my companion doesn’t get any rest, he will die." The pleading look in Elias’s eyes struck her. She was drawn to those eyes.
Her eyes then glanced at his hand and caught sight of his silver ring. It was his knighthood ring. It seemed like it was less expensive but she had no idea what it meant to Elias
"I will take the ring instead." She bargained, she knew Elias was more than capable of forcing his way into her small cottage. Regardless, he was trying to beg, which showed that they weren’t bad people. Elias was stunned and was reluctant to part with it.
Evelyn, who saw this, intervened and then pulled off her earrings. "Please take this instead, that ring means the world to him." She said, and the girls nodded. They were fluent in her language and wondered if they were from the capital of Litoralia.
"Are you married?" She blurted out, Evelyn denied it immediately, having no idea how Elias’ fist was slightly clenched at her instant rejection. "We serve the same master. Please we need your help."
The girl felt a sense of relief that they weren’t married. "Fine, you can come in and rest. I will explain the situation to my father when he arrives "She let them in..
"Thank you, we are six in number, " Evelyn explained. "I think my cottage can hold your number. I am Roselia." She chimed. Evelyn ran off to Abrielle to inform them they had a bit of shelter.
After some time, Cedric was moved into the cottage. "he has a fever now," Abrielle mentioned. Cedric was being supported by the men who carried him inside.
Roselia stood by a corner and watched them come in. She was surprised by how good-looking they all were. She was certain they were from a noble household, but what were they doing here?
