Chapter 63 - The Crowned Shadow

Zane hit the ground hard, bouncing once before skidding to a halt in a cloud of shattered stone and dust. His Shadow Armor flickered violently, unstable and cracked. He gasped, pain lancing through every nerve as the system chimed coldly in front of his blurry vision.

He couldn't move. His limbs trembled, each breath a jagged stab in his lungs. Blood pooled beneath him, dark and sluggish. The world above swirled—a vortex of twilight and death—and through it all loomed the Voidborne Phoenix, unrelenting.

Its eyes still blazed, its wings still beat. It circled above, preparing another dive, another strike to end him.

Zane's vision swam. Hot tears streaked his cheeks.

"I didn't ask for this," he whispered, barely audible. "I just wanted a second chance... a life worth living..."

He gritted his teeth. "I didn't reincarnate just to die like this."

And something inside him—something buried deep—snapped.

He clenched the Endblade in his hand as it began to vibrate violently, resonating with the pulse of his rage and despair. His Shadow Armor twisted unnaturally, shifting like oil over his skin. Cracks in his armor sealed with streaks of glowing violet. His eyes, dim with pain moments ago, now blazed a terrifying hue—pure Void.

"IF I'M GOING TO DIE..." he growled, forcing himself to his knees, then his feet. "THEN I'M NOT GOING DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT!"

He raised the Endblade—and stabbed it into the ground.

A shockwave of darkness erupted outward in all directions, swallowing the light, choking the sky.

The world went black.

Not nighttime—nothingness. Even the stars seemed to vanish. All sound ceased, all motion halted. In that endless void, only Zane remained.

A breath. A heartbeat. A roar.

From the depths of the darkness, the Phoenix screeched—but it sounded uncertain now. Afraid.

Then Zane vanished.

He reappeared above the Phoenix with a flash of black light, his sword already mid-swing. The beast jerked back too slow—

SHHKKK!

A clean slash across its wing. Then another to its flank. Then another. Over and over—Zane danced through the air with impossible speed, blinking from shadow to shadow, each strike guided by pure instinct and fury. A blur of violence and vengeance.

The Phoenix shrieked, wings flailing. Black flames burst from its wounds, sputtering uselessly in the void.

And then—

From above Zane, something formed.

A crown. fгeewebnovёl.com

Forged of swirling black fire and gleaming obsidian, a crown of shadow hovered just inches above his head, spinning slowly like a halo of power. The system didn't even register it. This wasn't a skill.

This was something else.

Zane's voice came low and heavy, not entirely his own. It echoed across the dark.

"You are not my end."

He appeared again, now in front of the Phoenix, face-to-beak, eyes like dying stars. With a cry that tore through the silence, Zane slashed—

Again. Again. Again.

His movements became incomprehensible, a storm of shadow and steel. The Phoenix howled, staggering beneath the onslaught. The air cracked with every blow. Feathers fell like meteors, black fire sputtered uselessly across the void, and still Zane came.

Until finally—

The Phoenix fell, too weakened to rise.

Breathing hard, Zane floated above it, eyes locked onto its dimming form. His Shadow Armor flickered, his body broken, but he lifted the Endblade high.

The blade shimmered—stretched unnaturally, as if responding to his will.

Then Zane whispered the final word.

"...Fall."

And with a final strike that split the silence itself, he brought the blade down and cleaved the Phoenix's head from its body.

For a moment, the world was still.

Then the darkness cracked—shards of void falling away like glass—and the real world rushed back in with a deafening roar of wind and light.

Zane fell.

His crown vanished. The Endblade slipped from his grasp.

And before he hit the ground, his body went limp, eyes fluttering closed.

He had won.
