The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 174
Princess Eleanor did not know how to react at that moment. She could hear Nia’s voice, but her body had turned stiff as she moved away from Sir Kit in a hurry.
Princess Eleanor’s breathing was choppy as she tried to smoothen out her hair. Sir Kit looked at Princess Eleanor as he saw her nervous face and he licked his lips, trying to savor the moment when she had kissed him so passionately.
Sir Kit got up as he moved fast. His hand stroked Princess Eleanor’s hair as he smoothed it down, making sure that it was all properly arranged before Nia entered.
Sir Kit smiled as he saw that Princess Eleanor was presentable and he took a few steps away from the bed. Princess Eleanor was confused, but she then realized that the man understood her stand. Princess Eleanor felt guilty. She knew that Sir Kit liked her and so did she. She hated being secretive about their relationship, and this moment made her realize it.
Sir Kit had probably taken a few steps back because he was worried about the Princess. Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as her eyes moved towards the door that was now opened.
Nia looked inside the room only to realize that Princess Eleanor was not alone. Nia was silent but when she saw Princess Eleanor smile at her, Nia closed the door in a hurry as she walked inside the room.
"Princess, I got what you asked me for." Nia looked at Sir Kit as she closed her mouth. Her eyes stayed on him as if she was hesitant to continue.
Princess Eleanor sighed as she got up from the bed. She walked onwards to the chair before sitting down. Her eyes moved towards Nia and Sir Kit as she indicated them to follow her as well. "Let’s all sit and talk."
Nia and Sir Kit looked at one another as they sat down. Both of their eyes stayed on Princess Eleanor who laughed at them a little sheepishly. "Okay, now we can talk."
Princess Eleanor looked at Nia as she continued, "Sir Kit will be here most of the time. You do not need to be shocked in the future." Princess Eleanor blinked her eyes as she said shyly, "I like him, Nia."
Nia’s eyes widened as she looked at the man sitting in front of her. She had seen how much Sir Kit cared about the Princess but there had not been thoughts that they were in such a relationship. Although as Princess Eleanor’s friend, Nia wished that the Princess loved someone who had stronger status. After all, she was a Princess, but Nia was also happy that Princess Eleanor had decided to finally open her heart to someone.
Nia took a few deep breaths as she nodded her head after a few seconds, "I understand, Princess." Nia’s gaze moved towards Sir Kit as it sharpened. Her tone turned deep as if she was giving a warning to the man, "I hope Sir Kit will not hurt the Princess." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Sir Kit nodded his head. He was not angry with this small warning. After all, Nia was someone who was extremely close to Princess Eleanor. She was someone who truly loved the Princess.
"But Princess..." Nia blinked her eyes as she turned her head towards Princess Eleanor in a hurry, "You do not even know how he looks like. Sir Kit has never shown his face to you."
"Yes, he hasn’t." Princess Eleanor leaned forward as her lips curled up, "But he said that he will show his true face to me soon. Isn’t that true, Sir Kit?"
Sir Kit nodded his head as he smiled. "Yes indeed. However, you were saying something?"
Nia nodded her head. She only wanted the best for Princess Eleanor as she looked at Sir Kit one last time. She knew the man would not disappoint her at all. She had seen it with her own eyes. "I found who was the one that made Princess Vida think that maybe because you are staying here at the Beaumont mansion, you have a favor from the Grand Duke."
Sir Kit’s body stiffened when he heard it. His eyes looked at Princess Eleanor as he asked, "What is this?"
"What can I say?" Princess Eleanor shook her head as she said in a dull tone, "I have a feeling that Princess Vida thinks that I have the Grand Duke’s favor and so the Crown Prince is paying more attention to me."
"Did you ask her to dig for information?" Sir Kit looked at Nia. It was not that he did not trust her, but he felt that it was unnecessary. After all, if Princess Eleanor wanted to know something, she could always come to him or order Commander Colt to do it. How could her lady-in-waiting be useful in such conditions?
Princess Eleanor knew what Sir Kit was getting at, but she had her own reasons. "I think you are underestimating the power of a lady-in-waiting. The rumors circling around the servants are usually more accurate." Princess Eleanor looked at Nia as she smiled, "Nia, tell me who is it."
Nia was happy that Princess Eleanor took a stand for her. It proved that the Princess also valued their friendship as much as she did. The Princess trusted her. Nia nodded her head as she said, "Well, Marquess Gio has visited Princess Vida many times while in the Royal Palace."
Sir Kit’s eyes darkened as he listened to Nia’s words. "Marquess Gio? Are you sure?"
Nia nodded her head in a hurry, "Yes, Princess Vida’s lady-in-waiting, Kelly told me that." Nia’s eyes narrowed when she remembered something important. She looked at Sir Kit as she said in a small tone, "There is one more thing. I actually found Kelly in the garden. I think she was roaming around the mansion in search of something. But when I asked, she said that she wanted to pick some roses as Princess Vida wanted to serve rose tea to the Crown Prince."
Sir Kit’s eyes sharpened as he said in a sharp tone, "The soldiers have been assigned go the mansion since the Crown Prince entered. I will ask around and try to understand what she was doing, roaming around."
Nia turned her head as she said in a small tone, "Princess I think Marquess Gio wants to create a rivalry between you both."
"And why do you think so, Nia? Did you hear anything?" Princess Eleanor asked. She knew that her lady-in-waiting would not say anything if she did not mean it. Nia must have heard something that made her think so.
"Well," Nia was hesitant to continue on. She was not sure if she should say it or not. Nia took a deep breath as she continued, "I remembered something else that I have heard. There is a rumor going around in the Roulux Empire and I think that it is related to this."
"And what is that?" Princess Eleanor asked. She knew that Nia’s words had to be taken seriously. She could not avoid it if Nia felt like it was important.
"I heard Marquess Gio’s daughter had not stepped into this place before. But when we were first coming to the Beaumont mansion, I heard people say that it is the first time that a lady is entering the Beaumont mansion to stay. Marquess Gio’s daughter tried to come along, but was not even allowed to enter the mansion without permission." Nia looked at Sir Kit whose eyes were blank. "Sir Kit might know it as well. Maybe Marquess Gio’s daughter thinks that Princess Eleanor is her rival and wants to deal with her using Princess Vida."
"That is a possibility," Princess Eleanor nodded her head. "But why would Princess Vida believe her though? It is well known that the Grand Duke does not favor anyone. So why would she think that he will show any support to me?"
"Maybe Marquess Gia wants his daughter to marry the Grand Duke?" Sir Kit hazarded a guess as he looked over at Princess Eleanor. "Marquess Gio tried to befriend Duke Christopher but in vain. As Nia said, he doesn’t like to get involved in such things. He was never forced to marry, so a political marriage is not something he would ever desire. Marquess Gio’s daughter has indeed tried to seduce him, but he had always been straightforward in rejecting her."
"So when I moved here, they feared that I might catch the Grand Duke’s eyes?" Princess Eleanor laughed as her eyes darkened, "But in reality, I think he hates me. After all, I have made so many mistakes."
Princess Eleanor knew that Marquess Gio’s worry was useless because she was already in the Grand Duke’s bad books after entering his study. But no one knew about it.
"Marquess Gio is Crown Prince Richard’s person. So if Princess Vida gets rid of you, then she not only clears the path for Marquess Gio’s daughter, but also for herself. After all, with Marquess Gio’s help. Princess Vida has more chances to become Crown Princess."
"But isn’t it dependable on the prophecy?" Nia asked as she looked over at Sir Kit in shock.
"I heard that the nobles have suggested a competition between the Princesses. The one who wins will be the future Crown Princess if the prophecy did not come down. In such a case, Princess Vida’s chances will be good."
