The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 214 - 212
Duchess Macy was silent. Her eyes widened as she tried to control her racing heart.
"Why?" tears started streaking down her face as she cried desperately. "Why do you want me to do that?"
Duke Felix did not reply right away as if he was taking his sweet time. But in the eyes of Duchess Macy, it felt like the Duke was trying hard to tell the truth but something was stopping him.
Duke Felix sighed as he said in a small tone, "I do not know how much you know, but it is true that your parents were involved in Princess Elenaor’s family’s death. You Uncle and Aunt were killed because of them."
As soon as she heard the words, Duchess Macy’s body stiffened. She took a step back as she stared at the Duke in disbelief and questions filled her eyes.
"I never wanted to tell you this, but the truth cannot be ignored. Especially where your life is concerned." Duke Felix smiled as he walked towards his wife, making her sit on the chair where once her father sat. "I always thought that she would stop once she got the throne... but I was wrong."
Duke Felix looked down at his wife. His hand touched the corners of her eyes as he helped his wife wipe the tears away. "But it was my hope. How would I have known that she would not stop there? How would I know that she would not let her own children be?"
Duchess Macy was confused. There was a lingering question in her eyes but she did not ask anything clearly. She believed that the man in front of her would always tell her the truth. He was her husband... he would not lie to her. Right?
"When I went to search for the Prince, I saw something there which I could never imagine. It is true that the people from the Roulox Empire attacked the Prince’s carriage. Yes, that is something that I cannot deny, but do you know what else I saw? I saw a letter jutting out of one of the rebel’s pockets." Duke Felix pulled out a letter from his pocket. His eyes looked down at his clothes as his hand flipped. "I had to kill the man, otherwise he would have killed me."
Duchess Macy was silent but soon she nodded her head. She was not in a condition to think anymore.
Duchess Macy took the letter as she bit her lips nervously. Her eyes dimmed as her hold on the letter tightened. "This?"
The Duchess’s eyes widened. As she read the words one by one. She could not accept that the letter was written by her mother. But the signature at the bottom said otherwise. What caught her eyes the most was what had been written at the bottom.
[When you kill Arlo, make sure to kill my husband. He is not capable of ruling the Kingdom. But do not forget to attack my daughter. Make sure to disguise it as an accident.]
Duchess Macy’s hands trembled as she looked at her husband who was the only one standing beside her. The only one who was there to show her support.
"I have to make a choice, Macy. Looking at the letter it can be confirmed that the Prince is not there with us. As for the King," Duke Felix shook his head. "I have always known that she wants to be the Queen. Everyone in the Kingdom knew it. But I never thought that she was that hungry for power. So hungry that she was desperate to kill everyone."
"But..." Duchess Macy could not believe it. Although the letter was in her hand, she could not wrap her mind around the idea that her mother was the mastermind.
"I know it is hard to accept it, but trust me Macy. I will never lie to you." Duke Felix looked at his wife. "I know you would want to talk to her... but I do not want you to go there. She is your mother and she will try to manipulate you by saying that it is all false."
Duchess Macy was silent. Her body was trembling as she bit her lips. "That...."
Soon there was a knock on the door, disrupting the awkward silence. Duchess Macy’s eyes moved to the side as she held her breath. She was nervous.
Soon a knight entered as he slid on the ground. His knees were bent as he hit his head on the ground.
"What happened?" Duke Felix’s eyes narrowed as he said in a commanding tone. His eyes were looking at the knight with a slight smile.
The knight looked up as he said in a trembling voice, "We just received the news... The King was attacked and ... An ... And killed before he cou... could leave the King... Kingdom..."
Duchess Macy’s eyes widened as tears started flowing down uncontrollably. Her throat was dry as she did not know how to react. Her body was stiff and no matter how she tried to tell herself that her mother was innocent, this made the belief completely shatter.
Duke Felix looked down at the Duchess as he ran his hand through her hair, making her look up. "Don’t cry, Macy. That is the reason why I had asked you to choose. Who do you want to believe? A man who had fought with the killers and is here trying to save the love of his life or the woman who calls herself a mother but is trying to kill her family just to have the power?"
Duchess Macy’s body shook violently. She did not want to agree but she knew what was going on. She had to make a choice and soon too.
"I trust you..." Duchess Macy said as she choked on her words. All of the things surrounding her were too much for her to handle. But Duchess Macy felt blessed to at least have a man who loves her and wants to protect her no matter what.

Duke Felix walked into the prison as he saw the Queen hanging on the wall with her hands locked up. It could be seen that she had suffered a lot.
The Queen looked up as her eyes narrowed. It had been a few hours since she had been imprisoned. But no matter how much she shouted or struggled, no one came to her rescue. They all treated her like a criminal rather than a Queen.
"You... You..." The Queen’s voice was hoarse. She did not know why but her throat hurt when she tried to say even a single word. Was it because of all the shouting? The Queen thought so but she soon hid the thought behind.
Her eyes moved around but she could not see anyone in the room. As if none of the guards existed here. ’When did they all leave?’ the Queen thought but seeing Duke Felix standing in front of her with a smile, she understood something.
"You did this...!!" The Queen said. It was not a question but a statement.
In those few hours she was there, the Queen had a chance to sit back and think. It was evident that because of someone scheming behind the scenes, she had to suffer and there were only two names that appeared in her mind. Either it was the King, her husband or Duke Felix, her son-in-law.
It did not take long for the Queen to eliminate the King. He was a man who loved her a lot and even agreed to rebel against his own brother for her. He would never betray his love, so there was only one person left.
"I did it." Duke Felix laughed as he took a step towards the Queen. Seeing her pale face, his eyes narrowed. "Maybe you are right. I did it. But can you tell me why? A woman like you who is so intelligent to be able to plan the whole murder of the previous royal family just so she could take her revenge and be the Queen because she had always dreamed of it, should know why I would do it. That is if I actually did it."
"Do you think I am dumb?" The Queen asked in a dull tone. Her eyes narrowed as she spat on Duke Felix’s face. Her eyes were burning with emotions. "I do not want to talk to a man like you. I want to see my daughter. Send her to me!"
Duke Felix did not blink. He rubbed off the spit on his face, but there was an evil darkness lurking in his eyes, as if he was an injured tiger ready to attack.
"But your beloved daughter, my precious wife, does not want to meet you." Duke Felix walked towards the Queen as a smirk appeared on his face. He held onto her face, as his fingers buried themself into her jaw.
The Queen felt the pain as she tried to move her head away from the man but Duke Felix made sure to keep her from looking away.
"I have always taken your words seriously. You asked me to marry your daughter, the Princess and I agreed. I married her. You told me to take care of her, and I will. After all, she will be the next Queen of the Kingdom and I will be the King who stands beside her."
