Chapter 255: Chapter 251

The dark cloud was about to disperse. Princess Eleanor looked at the place that she had always dreamed of. It had always been something that kept her awake at night. The nightmare that she wanted so desperately to forget.

Princess Eleanor’s eyes focused on the dark cloud that was moving away from her body as if giving her space to breathe. Soon she could make out the light. There was something that was making her feel refreshed as she looked at the image in front of her. She can see her parents and brother all walking towards her.

Princess Eleanor choked on her words. She wanted to say a lot of things but she could not say any of them. The situation was self-evident. She was about to let go of her past.

"Mother... Father..." Princess Eleanor’s throat tightened and soon she could only swallow the words that were at the tip of her tongue. Her eyes moved towards her brother who was smiling at her with love in his eyes. She had remembered them in such a way. This was the life she had always had and this was the life that she had always wanted but everything had changed irrevocably.

Princess Eleanor knew that this was all in her dream. How could her family be here? They left her so long ago. But she still wanted to be with them... at least for the last time.

"I have taken my revenge. I have avenged you. Everyone who was a part of the conspiracy had died." Tears still rolled down her eyes but Princess Eleanor continued to speak, "But I am not ready to leave you all behind. I do not know why I am feeling all of this. But I feel like if I let you go, I will forget you."

Prince Edwin walked toward Princess Eleanor as he gently rubbed his sister’s head. "How can this be? We will always stay with you. In your heart. Now leave the past behind and walk towards your future. You deserve happiness, Eleanor."

Princess Eleanor was emotional. She wanted to say something but before she could, the image of her family had already started fading. She ran towards them and she tried to catch them but there was nothing she could do. Only her parents’ voices could be heard. "We love you, Eleanor."

Princess Eleanor opened her eyes as the pace of her breathing increased. She looked to the side only to see the teary face of Lady Gisella. "Princess..... You are all right....."

Princess Eleanor was startled when she saw Lady Gisella lunged forward and hugged her. ’What happened...??’ Princess Eleanor’s throat was dry. She soon realized that her voice could not come out as she struggled to speak.

Lady Gisella saw that she was struggling to speak, and quickly walked to the side table to pour a glass of water. Returning to Princess Eleanor’s side, she handed the water over for the Princess to drink. Seeing how Princess Eleanor had downed the entire glass in one breath, she was sure that the Princess was now feeling better.

"How long have I been unconscious for?" Princess Eleanor asked as she looked out at the sky. She knew that it was already evening, but she still wanted to know.

"It has been more than six hours."

Princess Eleanor was silent when she heard Lady Gisella’s words. It was more than what she had expected. She had never been unconscious for so long. "Where is Christopher?"

"The Lord is arranging the funeral...." Lady Gisella said in a low voice, "Apart from him, none of the Royal family made it out alive..."

{A few hours prior}

Priest Erasmus looked at the dead face of the Emperor. He had a lot of things to say but he maintained his cool. Marquess Gio was captured and all the connections with the Cenid Kingdom were broken. Soon there will be war started by the Empire, declaring those people as traitors.

Priest Erasmus looked at the Empress who was on the adjacent bed. He walked towards her but he could see that she was not quite dead yet. The room was empty as he smiled. He had asked all the healers and priests to stay out as he wanted to deliver God’s will to those in the room.

All the people knew that with the current situation, it was evident that the Royals would not survive. So was it not better to let them listen to God’s words one last time? Prince Erasmus took a small bottle out and he opened it slowly. He made the Empress drink it with a smile on his face. He knew that maybe she would not be able to listen to him but he still wanted to say whatever that was kept in his heart for so long.

"You were the reason that I lost my mother." Priest Erasmus’s eyes stayed focused on the Empress as he continued, "It was you who made the temple take your side and abandoned me and my mother. I was not angry with you. I was too young then to understand it and I never had a deep relationship with my father too. But then I was sent to Beaumont house and I grew up there as a child of the house. Although I was not allowed to go out, I knew the reason. Duke Beaumont, my uncle, had always been open to me."

Priest Erasmus looked at the Emperor. "He could have been a better Emperor than you. And you knew it. Was that the reason why you had decided to kill him?" Priest Erasmus’ eyes were red as he placed the empty bottle back into his pocket. "There is no limit to a person’s greed and you are the prime example of it. You and your son too, killed a family because they did not allow him to marry their daughter."

Priest Erasmus shook his head in irritation as he continued, "You all are just suffering the consequences of your own crime." He could see the Empress’s breathing hitching. She was about to die and there was nothing else that could be done for her. "It is still a pity that I could not get a chance to introduce myself to you both. I am the real First Prince. The child who you all thought was dead. A child who should not be standing at a place higher than you. A child who is here to take his revenge."

Priest Erasmus smiled as he walked towards the door as he said in a small voice. He knew that no one was listening to him, but he still wanted to say it. "Your body might be burning from the inside. All of your organs will melt away slowly. Even when your soul leaves the body, your body will not stop suffering."

Priest Erasmus looked at the couple on the bed. "I hope you never get your rest. Emperor, Empress."

Priest Erasmus walked out of the room and he shook his head with a sad face. His eyes clearly showed that the Emperor and the Empress were no longer alive.

Soon the surroundings became quiet as he saw the knights and the priests walking inside the room, but Priest Erasmus did not go in. He saw the Chief healer keeping still as he looked at him with a frightened face, as if he was afraid of something.

"The Crown Prince may not make it either." The High Priest said in a small voice. There was fear in his eyes. He was a man who knew what a cruel person the High Priest was. He would not bat an eye before killing someone under the reason of it being God’s will.

The Chief healer could not understand what the High Priest was thinking. He thought that the man supported the crown and hated the Grand Duke’s family. But his recent way of operations clearly showed the opposite. Was not the High Priest and Grand Duke Christopher always on bad terms?

"Although I had given him the medicine that Doctor Raul had taught, his health did not seem to recover." The chief Healer said in a small voice, "Could it be that he did not teach me..."

"He had taught you the right medicine." Priest Erasmus said, cutting the chief healer’s words, "If you cannot make it work then it shows your incompetence."

Priest Erasmus smiled but soon he shook his head, "But even if you gave him the medicine, we cannot be sure if the man will wake up or not. After all, it is God’s will working here."

The Chief Healer’s breathing hitched. He stared at the High Priest but soon looked down nervously. He could not understand what happened when the High Priest was suddenly on good terms with Doctor Raul. Were they not always fighting in terms of their approach to treatment?

The chief healer did not have time to think about it at all. The situation was getting more serious. He knew what the High Priest meant when he said that it is God’s will. The underlying meaning was clear to him.

’The High Priest does not want Prince Richard to live.’ The chief healer thought. He was afraid to follow the man’s order, but when he looked up, he saw the pair of unhappy eyes locked onto his. He knew that the situation would not be good if he was the one who gets on bad terms with the High Priest. If he did not do what the High Priest says, then he would be the one whose funeral would be arranged next.

’I need to get the work done before I end up getting placed in the coffin!’

The Chief Healer nodded his head quickly, "I understand."
