The Werewolf King's Bride-Chapter 558: Plants
(From Blue’s Perspective)
It turned out Dion truly caught a contagious fever. In the last few days, a lot of people got infected by this fever. The shadow gave us the news that the first person who was reported to have caught this fever was from Trouvaille.
Dem had gotten really mad and sent a letter to Evan, expressing his anger that Evan had not been careful enough; if Evan had been careful, then a person with a contagious fever could not have entered the banquet. It was clear Dion had caught it from that banquet. He had been a little off since that day.
"Mommy is here, baby. Mommy is here," I soothed my son as he was crying for a very long time.
"That bastard!"
"Dem, it is not truly Evan’s fault."
"Just because he has not done it purposefully doesn’t mean it did not happen. In the end, Dion got sick. Don’t you know how dangerous this fever is? Among the five hundred patients, two hundred of them died. Look at our little son! He is so tiny and he isn’t so strong that he can get better so easily!"
"He will get better," I said, gritting my teeth. "He has to."
"Honey, I also want that. What I am saying is someone purposefully did it. I am sure of it. Someone entered the banquet while being infected with the fever," he said.

"If that’s the case, he did not just target our son."
"No, they wanted to spread it among the Royals of other kingdoms."
"Why? To tarnish the name of the King of Trouvaille?"
"Most probably. Rulers always have enemies," he said.
Dion started crying loudly. I felt truly bad for him. Our little baby was sick. Why was it not me who got infected and not him?
Although it was a contagious disease, there was no way I could stay away from my own son. I needed to feed him and even if I did not need to feed him, I would still be by his side. Dem and I also got tested, but we were not infected by it yet. It was actually pretty dangerous for me to stay near someone with the fever as I was pregnant.
But I was not ready to leave my firstborn for the sake of my unborn child. I told Dem to go to another room and stay away from us for the time being, but if someone could make him understand that, it was not me.
Dem tried to take Dion from me, but Dion refused to leave me. Doctor Dimitri had said how kids tend to cling to their mothers, especially when they were sick. He was not wrong.
"Why are you like this, buddy?" Dem muttered, rubbing Dion’s back. "Give Mommy a break. She has been carrying for the last two days and you won’t get off. Let her take a bath, baby."
Basically, I had not taken a bath for the last two days. Dion cried a lot and whenever I tried to put him down, he would wake up and start crying. He would go to no one else and even wanted me to hold him in a particular position, which was holding him as close as possible to my chest and gently massaging his scalp.
"Honestly, I feel sick too. It might not be the fever. I am just really tired, I think," I said. "You should take some rest too. There is no point in staying awake together. At least, one of us can take some rest.
Go on. Lie down and try to sleep."
He just shrugged.
"Dem, please. You promised you would listen to me if I told you what I said Cyan."
"But you haven’t told me everything yet."
I sighed. "Alright, so if I tell you, will you take some rest?"
"Sure. I don’t go back on my words," he said.
"Oh, right," I rolled my eyes.
Dem took the wet towel from the bucket from the side of the bed and wiped Dion’s body once more. He cried a lot during the process because it was not me doing it. But I truly needed to take a really quick bath.
It was probably the fastest bath I had ever taken. I could swear it was just two minutes long. I had to come back as soon as possible because Dion was going into hysterics.
I took him in my arms and tried to calm him down. He was crying a lot. It broke my heart that my baby was suffering this much.
"Baby, you are hurting so much, aren’t you?" I mumbled, pressing his cheek against mine. I wished I could take all his pain away. I would rather suffer a hundred times greater pain than let my son suffer even a bit. "He has turned red from crying this much."
In the next two days, Dion’s condition got worse. He would not let me leave his side for even a second. I had not caught the fever yet. Dem did not as well, which was a good thing. We needed to be okay to take care of our son.
With a fever, Dion also had rashes. It happened usually when children caught fevers. As soon as the fever would go away, the rashes would go away as well.
It was midnight. I walked around on the balcony. Dion had stopped crying but had not fallen asleep yet. He was now really calm and was just looking ahead.
"Sapphire, honey, don’t walk on the railing. I know you can, but it gives me anxiety," I said.
Sapphire, my cat, also did not want to leave Dion’s side, now that she got used to my son and kind of adored him as well. I wanted to send Sapphire to Cyan who was staying at the magic tower. He was helping Luc with something. But Sapphire ended up going feral when Cyan tried to take her and clung to Dion’s crib.
"Do you like trees? Dion and you always like to look at one," I said as I ran my fingers through Sapphire’s fur.
Dion’s most favorite thing in the whole world was probably a tree, any tree. Or, maybe it was his second or third favorite thing. I noticed he loved me more.
We found out about his love for trees just recently as whenever he saw a plant or a tree, he would look at it dazedly. So, when he cried, I would bring him to the balcony where there were plants and he could even look at the trees outside. Dem brought a house plant which he placed in Dion’s room. Dion could look at it from his crib. Sapphire would also sit in Dion’s crib and look at it with Dion.
’Find a person who will look at you the way my son looks at the house plant.’
I fixed Dion’s oversized t-shirt and took him near one of the plants on the balcony. He would not touch it, just watch it. It was like he was in a daze.
I sat down on the floor as my back was hurting. I placed Dion in my lap in a sitting position. He could not sit. So, I needed to make sure he would not fall forward on his head. I braced him with my legs and the back of his head rested against my front. Sapphire also came to sit in front of Dion, really close to him and both of them just watched the plant. "I have never seen someone who loves plants as much as Dion does," I heard Dem’s voice behind me.
"You are not sleeping?" I asked. I had left him sleeping in the bedroom. He was determined not to fall asleep, but he needed some rest too. So, when I said I would give him a massage while Dion was sleeping for just a moment, he fell asleep when I massaged his forehead. He must have been very tired as he did not wake up even when Dion started crying.
"I think he also likes sharp objects," I said.
Dem sat down behind me and hugged me from behind. His legs were on either side of me as if bracing me.
"How do you know that?" he asked, hiding his nose on the side of my neck.
"I literally haven’t showered today…"
"You have a nice smell," he whispered.
"Only you would say that… Anyway, as I was saying… I saw him looking at my dagger on the bedside table. Then, when the other day you came back and showed me how the handle of your blade had a scratch mark, he was looking at it dazedly too, and was mumbling like he always does."
"Let’s see. In a couple of months, we will know more about exactly what he likes and what he doesn’t. One thing is sure. He does love plants," Dem said. "You never know. It can be his power.
An Alpha’s first true fascination ends up becoming their power."
