The Winds of the New World-Chapter 49 - 46: The Confrontation with the Abyss
Chapter 49 - 46: The Confrontation with the Abyss
The creature surged forward in a whirlwind of shadows and frost, its ethereal robes expanding like ravenous tendrils devouring the light around it. Edmund felt his skin burn at the touch of the icy air emanating from the entity. His instincts screamed in warning, and he rolled to the side at the exact moment a black claw slashed through the space where he had stood a second before.
Voss raised his blade with a battle cry and delivered a brutal strike. The silvered sword cut through the creature's cloak, but instead of slicing flesh, it passed through an icy void that drained the force from the blow. A shockwave coursed through the warrior's arm, and he was hurled backward as if struck by a wave of pure arcane energy.
— We can't harm it with ordinary steel! — Kieza shouted, moving swiftly to dodge another strike from the entity.
Edmund drew one of the newly forged silver sabers and rushed toward the monster. He pivoted at the last moment and delivered a precise slash to the creature's side. The blade shimmered with a pale glow, and as it sliced through the spectral body, a piercing, shattering sound filled the chamber, like glass breaking. The creature recoiled violently, its hollow eyes flaring with newfound rage.
— Silver works! — Edmund exclaimed, spinning his blade in his hand.
The entity roared, and the shadows around it condensed, forming spectral spears that shot toward the group. Edmund threw himself behind a column as Voss and Kieza split apart, dodging the black projectiles that exploded against the chamber walls, leaving deep, scorched marks wherever they struck.
The captain wasted no time. Using his agility, he sprinted in a wide arc and struck again with precision. The creature shuddered, its form flickering between the physical and the immaterial, as if struggling to maintain its shape. Voss, seeing the opening, lunged with all his might and drove his silver-coated sword straight into the entity's chest.
A supernatural scream tore through the hall, the walls trembling with the creature's fury. The impact unleashed a wave of energy that sent them all flying backward, momentarily extinguishing the torches and plunging the chamber into darkness.
For a moment, there was only silence and the heavy sound of Edmund's breathing. Then, a faint light emerged from the center of the room. The creature was still there, but something had changed. Its body flickered, its form dissolving like mist at dawn.
— It's weakening... — Kieza murmured, struggling to his feet.
— We have to finish this now! — Edmund roared, charging forward for the final blow.

The battle was not over yet, but the monster already knew: its downfall was inevitable.
