Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Selene is Stunned!

Selena wrapped her cloak tighter around herself and moved after Elarliya with steady steps, her presence hidden so well that even the shadows could not sense her.

Elarliya walked quickly through the palace corridors, but she did not walk in a straight line... She took three different turns, then doubled back once, then slipped through a narrow hallway that even Selena had never seen before, and if it were anyone else, they would have lost her in the first turn because Elarliya was indeed an expert at hiding her presence.

But Selena was not just anyone.

She was a witch too... one born from a pure bloodline, the kind of magic that didn’t make noise, didn’t leave traces, and didn’t disturb the air. Elarliya’s spells would have fooled every guard, every servant, every noble... Yet to Selena, her movements were as clear as footprints in soft snow.

So she followed her mother silently through routes she never knew existed, watching in amazement as Elarliya pressed her palm against a wall and revealed a hidden passage, then walked through it like she had done it a thousand times.

Selena’s mind raced with excitement... This was a secret path out of the palace, a hidden escape tunnel no one had ever told her about, a tunnel even Vaelen didn’t seem aware of.

At least she had learned something valuable today.

Outside the palace walls, the air grew colder and the sounds of the market filled the distance, but Elarliya pulled her hood lower and blended into the crowd like an ordinary woman.

Selena kept her distance, walking behind carts, slipping past groups of villagers, and making sure her steps matched the rhythm of the crowd so no one would turn around.

Elarliya walked for many turns before suddenly stopping in front of a small, almost pathetic-looking house...a tiny crooked structure squeezed between two larger buildings. It looked old, cheap, and completely unlike a place a powerful witch like Elarliya would ever visit.

Selena’s eyes narrowed; this was strange.

Elarliya looked around once, checked if anyone was watching, then stepped inside without hesitation.

Selena waited a moment, let her heartbeat settle, then quietly slipped inside as well.

The moment she crossed the doorway, her breath caught in her throat.

The shabby house was nothing but a disguise.

The inside opened into a long passageway that led to another door, bright lights shining from the cracks beneath it. Selena followed deeper and deeper, her steps silent, and when she reached the end, she froze.

Because the door opened into a much bigger structure...almost a mansion hidden beneath a shabby house. The walls were polished steel, the air smelled of magic, and the place felt like a palace built for secrecy and forbidden meetings. Selena widened her eyes in shock. She had never known something like this existed beneath the city.

Elarliya walked through the silent passage with quick, sharp movements, irritation building in every step. At last, she reached a room, pushed open the door, and her face immediately twisted with anger.

The room was empty.

The chair in the corner...clearly someone’s usual seat was unoccupied. The desk was untouched. The candles were cold. The person she had come to meet was nowhere.

Elarliya clicked her tongue harshly, the sound echoing through the chamber. "Where did that bastard run off to now?" she hissed under her breath, pacing around the room, looking behind curtains and shelves as if expecting the man to jump out.

Selena hid herself behind a tall wooden cabinet, pressing her body against the wall, observing everything with sharp eyes. Her suspicion grew even deeper. Elarliya had clearly come here to meet someone, someone important, someone who did not want to meet her today.

Both women waited... Elarliya openly, tapping her foot in anger, and Selena silently, watching her every move.

Minutes passed before the sound of footsteps finally echoed through the hallway.

Selena instantly pulled her cloak tighter and pressed herself deeper into the shadows.

Elarliya heard it too and turned towards the door, her face lighting up with rage. "Finally," she muttered.

The footsteps grew closer, strong and steady, and the moment the figure stepped inside, Selena’s eyes widened.

It was a man with broad shoulders, with the unmistakable aura of a werewolf surrounding him, which was wild, dangerous, and powerful.

Selena’s breath stilled. Her heart dropped. And a single name flashed in her mind.

Council

If he truly belonged to the werewolves council’’s side, then this entire situation was far more dangerous than she imagined.

Her eyes glinted sharply.

Now everything was finally connecting.

The footsteps stopped right outside the door, and Elarliya turned quickly, her expression still angry and ready to scold whoever dared to keep her waiting.

But the moment the man walked in, everything shifted. He didn’t rush. He didn’t apologize. He didn’t even look nervous. He just stood there for a second, leaning against the doorframe with a lazy confidence that instantly filled the room.

Then he walked toward her slowly, gazing at her with a relaxed, almost mocking smile.

Elarliya opened her mouth to snap at him... But she didn’t even get the chance.

Because he reached her first.

He tilted her chin up with his fingers and pulled her into his arms in one smooth, practiced move, hooking his arm around her waist like she belonged there.

Elarliya’s eyes widened in shock for a second, and even Selena had to press a hand over her mouth to stop a gasp.

The air changed instantly.

The man lowered his head to her neck without hesitation, brushing his lips against her skin like someone greeting a long-lost lover. Elarliya hissed softly...not in rejection, but in a mixture of surprise and something like pleasure, though she kept her face stiff.

"My lady," the man murmured against her throat, his voice low and smooth, "you finally came to see me. I’ve missed you... far too much."

He began planting slow kisses up her neck, his face completely hidden in her hair, and Selena stared with her jaw hanging open.

They’re... lovers?

Elarliya has a lover?

And who is this man?

Selena leaned forward slightly to see his face, but he kept it buried against Elarliya’s shoulder, never letting her catch even a glimpse, kissing her skin from her jaw all the way down to the soft curve of her neck in a way that made Elarliya grip his arms tightly.

Elarliya managed to whisper back, pretending to be annoyed, "You—stop... I said I missed you too," but even her voice had softened, and she reached up and wrapped her arms around his shoulders like she was falling into his embrace on purpose.

Selena’s eyes nearly popped out of her skull.

Because the more she watched... the worse it got.

The man lifted his head slightly, his breath ghosting over Elarliya’s ear, and whispered something that made her giggle before the two of them began whispering sweet, ridiculous words back and forth like lovesick fools who finally reunited after years apart.

Selena’s face cracked with disbelief.

She felt like she was seeing something forbidden.

Something she would never be able to unsee.

And it only got worse.

Because the man suddenly tugged at his upper clothes, pulling them halfway off his shoulders, exposing hard muscle and tanned skin like he was preparing for something much more intimate. Elarliya’s dress slipped dangerously low, her shoulders completely bare, looking like her gown could fall to the floor any second.

Selena slapped a hand over her eyes.

Nope. No. I’m done. "I can’t watch this," she told herself, crouching low and trying to block her ears, feeling her soul leaving her body as the man lifted Elarliya by the waist. Elarliya instinctively wrapped her legs around him, letting out a soft sound of surprise.

Selena almost choked.

She backed away silently, crawling backward like someone escaping a crime scene.

She absolutely could not stay another second.

She would go insane.

So without even thinking, Selena turned and slipped out the same hidden path she came from, muttering in her mind, I’m leaving—this is too obscene... My eyes are burning... I didn’t sign up for this...

The moment she disappeared from sight, the atmosphere inside the room changed sharply.

Elarliya’s haze vanished instantly.

Her legs unwrapped from the man’s waist, and she dropped to the floor like she had never been touching him at all. She shoved him back hard, her face twisted in pure disgust.

"How dare you take advantage of the situation!" she snapped in a harsh whisper.

The man only laughed, unfazed, leaning one shoulder against the wall with a lazy smirk. "My lady," he said calmly, "you were clearly enjoying yourself. Now you’re acting disgusted? That’s not very convincing."

Elarliya shot him a death glare, fixing her dress angrily, but her eyes flicked toward the direction Selena had been hiding.

A sneer curled on her lips.

The man noticed immediately. He leaned close to her ear, his voice turning husky. "Tell me... were you trying to let your daughter see this? How careless of you that you didn’t even notice." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Elarliya clenched her jaw, shoving him away harder. His words only made her more furious.

"Shut up and get dressed," she snapped, adjusting her gown back onto her shoulders and tying it tightly as if nothing had happened. "We have matters to discuss."

The man sighed heavily, clearly disappointed that their moment had been cut short, but he still reached for his discarded clothing. Even then, his eyes roamed lazily over her body, full of desire he didn’t bother hiding, and that same cunning smile never left his lips.

And he didn’t fear her at all.
