Chapter 242: Chapter 242: I Am Her Father!

Selene’s POV~

For a moment, I could not move.

I stood there, frozen, as the great Lycan... my father... fell to his knees as if the weight of the world had finally crushed him.

I thought... I truly thought it was because he had realized I was not his daughter. That disappointment had broken him. That I had been nothing more than a cruel joke standing in front of him.

But then he spoke.

"You look so much like her..."

"Her."

The way he said that word, like it was sacred, like it was bleeding him dry, confused me more than anything else. I did not understand who she was, or why his voice trembled as if saying her name would end him. I only saw a grown man, powerful and terrifying, breaking apart in front of me.

Tears slipped down his face.

And somehow, that hurt more than all the cruelty I had ever endured.

My chest tightened painfully. My vision blurred. I did not know why, but tears welled in my own eyes, mirroring his. I wanted to reach out, to hug him, to tell him it was alright. That even if I was not truly his daughter, I still could be.

After all, I had never had a father.

And if he wanted me... if he would accept me... I would gladly accept him too.

But fate did not give me that chance.

The air shifted violently, thick with killing intent, and my breath caught as shadows moved around us. Wolves... many of them appeared. They were massive, powerful, their auras pressing down on my chest until it felt hard to breathe.

They are top grade wolves.

My heart dropped straight into my stomach.

Who were they here for?

My father? Me? Or both of us?

A horrifying thought struck me... had they come to kill us? My eyes widened as dread clawed its way through me, suffocating me. And yet... another thought followed just as quickly, stubborn and unwilling to die.

She would not.

That woman... the one who had gone to this length, who claimed to love me, who was obsessed with him... she would not dare harm my father. Not while she still wanted him. Not when she was obsessed with him.

That belief shattered the moment their gazes locked onto me.

So I was their target.

They moved with purpose, their bodies angling, their attacks aimed to bypass my father entirely. My blood ran cold as realization hit me like a blade to the chest.

They want me dead. My heart clenched violently.

But fear did not last long as the deep anger bubbled inside me, the same anger that had been burning inside me since childhood.

So that was it. So she had finally decided to erase me. To clean her hands of the inconvenience I had become. My lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile as hatred settled deep inside my bones.

Fine.

If war had already begun, then I would not be the one hiding.

I would kill them. Every last one. And then I would deal with her.

The wolves lunged, snarling at me, trying to slip past my father’s massive form, and his roar shook the ground as he fought them back. The fight was bloodied, both parties refusing to back down at all.

Then one of them broke through.

A massive wolf burst past him with extended claws. He was twice my size, his eyes burning with murderous intent as he leaped straight for me.

Time slowed.

I stepped forward.

And I punched him.

My fist connected with his skull in a deadly move, power surging through my veins as witch magic answered my call. It was not that I could punch him with my own power, it was because of my enchantment, and the wolf was hurled backward like a broken toy.

His body crashed into two others, sending all three skidding across the ground in a mess.

Silence fell.

Every head turned toward me.

Even my father froze.

I straightened slowly, flexing my fingers as witch magic made my fingers tingle. Then I looked up at him and smiled softly, almost innocently, like a child.

"They should not have come for me," I said quietly, my eyes glowing with something far from human. "I am not a petite girl at all."

My father’s gaze was filled with shock, awe, and then pride.

He was seeing this side of me for the first time.

But still...

The fight did not slow. If anything, it turned worse. No matter how many times we struck them down, the wolves kept coming back, bloodied, broken, driven by something beyond pain or fear. Their eyes were wild with an unnatural adrenaline that refused to let them fall. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

They were not retreating. They were not hesitating. Even when bones cracked and bodies slammed into stone, they rose again, snarling, biting, clawing like death itself had lost control over them and sent them back unfinished.

That was when I knew something was very, very wrong.

My father suddenly staggered.

It was not from a blow. It was not from exhaustion. His massive body trembled violently, and then he dropped to his knees with a broken whimper that tore straight through my chest.

"Father!" I screamed.

A wolf lunged instantly, aiming for his front paws, its wide jaws ready to cripple him completely. Panic flooded me as I rushed forward without thinking, my leg snapping out hard as I kicked the wolf aside with everything I had.

He flew away, crashing brutally into the ground.

I turned back toward my father, desperate to reach him, desperate to shield him... but I never made it. A heavy body slammed into my side, knocking the breath from my lungs as I hit the ground hard.

Wolves surrounded me.

Rough paws pinned my arms, claws digging deep into my skin. I hissed sharply as blood spilled freely, long bloody lines forming across my forearms. Pain burned hot, but I glared at them with pure hatred.

But the world suddenly stepped back, and I noticed something off.

He was smirking.

And then my blood turned blue.

Horror seized me as dizziness crashed over my mind. My vision spun violently, my body weakening in seconds. I dropped to my knees, gasping, biting my lip hard to stay conscious as reality slipped through my fingers.

Poison. And a very strong one.

My gaze flicked back to my father, and dread crushed my chest as I realized the truth. He had been poisoned too. That was why he fell. That was why he whimpered like that.

A humorless chuckle echoed behind me.

"My dear daughter," a familiar voice said softly, mockingly. "You are very brave. Your mother is very proud."

My fists clenched instantly.

I knew that voice.

I looked up slowly, my vision blurring, and there she was, Elarliya, standing calmly, smiling warmly, her eyes filled with fake affection that made my stomach twist in disgust.

She clicked her tongue, making a soft tsk sound. "Such a fiery girl," she said sweetly. "But your destiny is wrong. The day you were born was wrong. As long as I live, you will never be happy."

I snickered weakly, hatred burning through the poison. "So," I rasped, "you are finally dropping that pitiful mother act of yours."

She chuckled lightly. "Pitiful? I am your mother. I have every right to keep my child under control. Even if she disobeys me, I can punish her however I wish."

Disgust crawled over my skin.

"Can you stop this disgusting act?" I spat weakly. "It makes me sick to my core. How can someone be as vile as you?"

Her serene smile cracked instantly.

She crouched in front of me, grabbing my jaw harshly. "You really are something," she whispered. "Tell me, my beautiful daughter... when did you remember everything?"

I stayed silent, breathing hard, fighting the poison tearing through my veins.

She laughed softly, the sound sharp and cold.

"You are smart, intelligent, and pure-blood," she said, the jealousy in her tone was clear even though her voice stayed calm. "It would have been perfect if you were born from my womb."

Then her eyes darkened.

"But you were born from a wench," she added, her lips curling into a sneer. "I suppose trash can still look precious when dressed well."

At her words rage immediately exploded in my chest.

Before I could speak, a furious snarl shook the ground.

Elarliya screamed as she was slammed violently into the stone, my father’s massive form pinning her down. His eyes burned with madness as he growled, "You stop, you fucking bitch. If you dare speak about my mate again..."

She laughed even beneath him.

"My darling," she cooed mockingly. "I only said her mother was a wench. She spread her legs for the entire pack. Who knows who fathered this girl?"

His growl turned lethal.

"I am her father," he roared. "Say another word, and I will rip out your tongue."
