The Witch and Her Four Dangerous Alphas-Chapter 247: Return to the Familiar Room
Author’s POV~
When Selene woke up, her mind felt heavy and dull, like thick fog was wrapped around her thoughts. Her head ached badly, and for a moment she could not even remember where she was or what had happened to her.
Her eyelids felt weak, but she slowly forced them open, blinking several times as the bright sunlight touched her face.
Warm light was streaming through a small window, falling across the bed where she lay. She stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, confused, because this place did not feel like the palace. The air was different. The smell was different. Everything felt simple and quiet.
Her heart began to beat faster.
Where... was she?
Her gaze moved slowly across the room. Wooden walls. A small table. A shelf with a few books. Soft curtains. Sunlight resting on the floor. Nothing grand and royal. Nothing like the lycan palace at all.
And yet...
Something about this room felt familiar.
She frowned weakly, her mind trying to remember. It was like a memory sitting far away, just out of reach. She had seen this room before. She had sat here once. She had spoken here with someone she knew. But who was it? Her thoughts were still blurry, floating around without shape.
She tried to push herself up, but her body felt weak, as if she had been asleep for a very long time. Her fingers trembled slightly as she touched the blanket. It was not hers. The bed was not hers. The smell was not hers.
Slowly, slowly... The fog in her head began to clear.
Her breath caught in her throat.
This room...
She finally recognized it.
This was Kieran’s house.
This was Kieran’s room.
A small shock ran through her chest, and her eyes widened. She had been here before, back when everything in her life was different. Back when she still tried to keep her past hidden.
But after that incident, she never met anyone, nor did she contact anyone, afraid of getting caught by Elarliya and putting their life in danger.
She had done everything she could to erase her presence from their lives, because she did not want any danger to reach them. She did not want Elarliya to even sense their names.
So then...
Why was she here now?
Who brought her?
Was it Kieran?
Her heart trembled at the thought, but before she could think more, a sharp wave of memory suddenly hit her. It rushed back into her mind all at once ... the escape, the poison, the wolves, the fear, her father collapsing in front of her eyes.
The world spun for a moment.
She remembered falling.
She remembered the burning pain spreading inside her veins.
She remembered trying to crawl toward her father, but her body would not move.
She remembered screaming helplessly, unable to stand up, unable to protect him, and unable to do anything except watch as he was dragged away.
Her chest tightened painfully.
She had been useless.
Tears almost filled her eyes, but she swallowed them back. Then another faint memory surfaced, the moment just before she lost consciousness. She remembered someone lifting her, someone carrying her away from the ground.
Someone had saved her.
Was it... Kieran?
Her brows furrowed, because Kieran was only a human. How could he appear there? How could he fight wolves? How could he reach her in the middle of the lycan palace battlefield?
Nothing made sense.
She slowly tried to sit up, but the moment she lifted her body, her head spun hard and a wave of dizziness washed over her. Her vision blurred, and she quickly sank back down onto the bed, breathing slowly to steady herself.
Her body still felt weak.
Yet something else felt strange too.
Her clothes were different. Her skin felt fresh, as if the blood that once covered her had never been there. The burning poison that had eaten at her veins was gone.
Her wounds... were healed. Someone had taken care of her while she was unconscious. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Her heart grew uneasy again.
Just then, the door slowly pushed open.
Her breath stopped.
A familiar tall figure stepped into the room.
He wore his mask, just like always. Calm posture and silent presence. The same shape of shoulders. The same way he walked. Even before he spoke, she knew.
It was Kieran.
Her lips trembled softly as she whispered, almost breathless,
"Kieran... it’s you."
He looked at her with those quiet, composed eyes through the mask. He did not react strongly. He did not rush to her. He simply nodded once, a small gesture, calm and controlled, as if this scene did not shake him at all.
"Yes," he said gently, his voice low and steady. "You’re awake."
He walked closer, his movements careful, as if he did not want to startle her. He picked up a glass of water from the table and held it out toward her.
"Drink. You just woke up."
She took the glass slowly, her fingers still trembling a little, and drank the water without saying anything at first. But her heart was full of questions, fear, and confusion.
How did he find her?
How did he bring her here?
How did he even step into the lycan palace without being killed?
And... did he know everything?
Did he know about her mates?
Did he know about her life there?
Did he know the world she was hiding from him?
Her chest tightened again. She was scared. Scared of his thoughts. Scared of his feelings. Scared of his anger. Scared of hurting him.
She waited for him to ask.
To question her.
To demand answers.
But he said nothing.
He simply stood there, silent and steady, like a still shadow beside her bed. After a few quiet moments, he spoke in the same calm voice.
"Do you want to eat something? I’ll cook."
He turned and started to leave the room.
Her heart panicked.
Why wasn’t he asking anything?
Why wasn’t he reacting?
Why wasn’t he angry?
Before he could step out, she blurted out softly, her voice trembling,
"Kieran... How did you know I was alive?"
For a brief second, his hand tightened at his side.
Something flashed behind his mask, but he forced it back, smothering it, burying it deep inside himself, where no one could see.
Because only he knew.
Only he knew what he went through the day he heard she had died.
His world had shattered.
His life had turned dark again.
Yet... he refused to believe it.
He knew she could not die so easily. He searched through countless places, endless nights, chasing every rumor, every whisper, every tiny clue, until finally... One fragile thread led him to the lycan palace.
Only he knew what he saw there.
Only he knew how his heart cracked when he realized she was alive but not alone.
She was with her mates.
She had returned to them.
She was smiling there.
Existing among them.
Living among them.
He felt his whole world fall apart, yet he stood still in the shadows, refusing to walk into her life again. He told himself he was nothing. He told himself he did not belong in her world.
He would remain as her shadow. Never interfering.
Because her happiness was enough.
Because seeing her alive was enough.
Because knowing she was alive gave him a reason to keep living in this cruel world.
All these thoughts stormed through his heart in a single silent moment.
But on the outside... he remained calm.
He took a slow breath and finally answered,
"I just found you by coincidence." His voice sounded calm. But his heart was bleeding.
He did not wait for her reaction. He simply turned and left the room quietly, like nothing mattered, like nothing had shaken him at all.
Selene sat there in silence, confused and uneasy.
Maybe... she was overthinking?
Maybe she had misunderstood?
Maybe he was fine?
She hesitated for a moment, then slowly stood up and followed him toward the door.
