The Wizard's Biological Chip Can Process Everything-Chapter 35: Technology, engineering is my future!!
The old man took the crystal with a smile that seemed almost malicious and, in return, handed Wallace a heavy hardcover book. ππ³π¦ππ€ππ£π―β΄π·π¦π.πππ
The volume was so thick that it resembled an old dictionary.
All the mentors willing to take on apprentices were listed there.
Suddenly, the sound of something striking the table echoed throughout the corridor.
A huge hourglass, with golden sand slowly falling, appeared beside the old man.
βAh, I almost forgot to mention, he said casually, turning the hourglass with one hand.
βA single magic crystal only grants you one turn of the hourglass.
βIf the time runs out before you decide, you will need to pay another crystal to continue!
Wallace paled as he watched the golden grains begin to fall relentlessly.
He quickly started flipping through the book.
It was clear the contents were vast.
Each page seemed to contain long and elaborate descriptions of the mentors, their abilities, their requirements, and their areas of specialization.
From where I stood, I could see sweat forming on Wallaceβs forehead.
Some glanced at their own pockets, perhaps weighing whether the price was worth it.
As for me, I watched with curiosity.
It wasnβt just about money.
Choosing the right mentor could change anyoneβs fate here.
Before we realized it, the sound of the book closing echoed through the corridor.
βTimeβs up! said the old man, watching Wallace with a curious look. βSo, have you made a choice? Or will you need more time?
Wallace took a deep breath, visibly tense.
He clenched his fists, but his voice came out steady.
βIβve decided! I choose Mentor Noah!
The old man nodded in approval.
βVery well.
He handed Wallace the same items as before.
βTake your belongings and follow the servant!
Another light servant was summoned.
Wallace bowed respectfully and followed the luminous figure until he disappeared through the doors.
βNext, Liam! the old man called, and another acolyte stepped forward.
As Liam approached, I observed his confident posture.
Unlike Wallace or James, Liam carried himself in a polished, almost arrogant manner.
Even after the beating he had taken from Oliver, he seemed unshaken.
It was obvious he came from a wealthy family, as he pulled out not one, but three shining magic crystals from his robes.
βI want more time to choose, he declared disdainfully, placing the crystals on the table.
The old man smiled, almost amused.
He handed the book over again, and a new hourglass appeared.
This time, it was larger and seemed to hold twice the amount of sand.
Liam began flipping through the book slowly, as if he already knew exactly what he was looking for.
I watched carefully, analyzing his every move.
Three magic crystals for this? It must be nice to come from a VERY rich family... I thought, almost with a hint of envy.
As the minutes passed, Liam finally closed the book with a satisfied expression.
βI choose Mentor Viego, he announced firmly.
The old man said nothing, simply repeating the process: he handed over the belongings and summoned another light servant.
The old man finally called my name.
βNext! Eduard!
I took a deep breath, adjusted my robes, and walked forward.
βI will choose for myself!
The old man accepted the magic crystal I handed him and, with a skillful motion, turned the hourglass again.
He placed the heavy book in my hands.
When I opened it, I was relieved to see that the text was in a language I could understand.
It seems this list was prepared especially for us acolytes, I thought, satisfied.
Even so, the time was short and the pages were many.
βBiochip, record and extract the most relevant information! I ordered mentally while the biochip scanned.
["Beep!"]
["Analyzing..."]
["1. Mentor Eny"]
["Department: Writing."]
["Specializations: Transformation, runes, and creation of magical scrolls."]
["Benefits: Can provide information on three topics for free."]
["Requirements: The acolyte must participate in one experiment per month and cannot refuse it for any reason."]
["2. Mentor Marcelina"]
["Department: Modified Organs."]
["Specializations: Anatomy and vampirism."]
["Benefits: High proficiency in using light for combat and defense."]
["Requirements: Acolytes must pay one magic crystal per month and cooperate with experiments."]
["3. Mentor Miguel"]
["Department: Technology."]
["Specializations: Mechanics and creation of various magical items."]
["Benefits: Can provide information on one topic for free."]
["Requirements: Acolytes must assist in building and handling prototypes, as well as in tasks necessary to the technological field, such as mining. All under guaranteed safety."]
["4. Mentor Daniel"]
["Department: Blessings."]
["Specializations: Blessings and bodily transformation."]
["Benefits: Can provide information on one topic for free, with the category chosen by the acolyte. Always available to guide their apprenticesβ studies."]
["Requirements: Acolytes must accept practical field missions involving anatomical and spiritual studies."]
...
And so the list continued.
The thick pages of the book made a hollow, rough sound when the final turn revealed the last page.
["Analysis Complete!"]
At that very moment, the last grain of sand fell in the hourglass.
Finished at the last second, I thought, letting out a small sigh of relief.
The old man looked at me with a curious smile.
βYou seem well read. Did you like books before coming here?
I stepped forward and raised my gaze to him.
βI even wrote some books and conducted some studies on my own. In my fatherβs territory, I think I was the most intelligent.
The old man raised his eyebrows, surprised, but his smile remained.
βInteresting, he said, looking at my physique.
βIt seems you are diligent. A warrior and a lover of books... a rare combination.
I did not respond immediately.
I closed my eyes, letting my mind analyze everything I had read.
βBiochip, report! I ordered mentally.
["Beep! Data in order."]
["Information on 30 mentors collected."]
As the information flowed through my mind, I began to reflect.
Miguel is a promising choice, focused on technology and experiments involving mining and construction.
On the other hand, Marcelinaβs work with vampirism finally explains her peculiarities...
It makes sense now.
I also considered Daniel, whose experiments transformed the bodies of his students.
That explains the acolytes I saw with strange featuresβextra eyes, additional limbs...
Choosing a mentor like that would be a risk Iβm not willing to take.
Setting those thoughts aside, I focused on what mattered.
Biochip, filter the results.
With conditions that match my current circumstances.
["Beep!"]
A blue light shone, and a translucent screen glowed before me, displaying only one option.
["Miguel β Department: Technology"]
I expected that choice.
To those watching me from the outside, it must have seemed as though I made my decision the moment I closed my eyes.
Straightening my posture, I announced without hesitation:
βI choose Mentor Miguel!
The old man blinked in surprise, stroking his long white beard.
βTechnology? Intelligent youths often gravitate toward that field.
βBut remember... magical technology is treacherous.
βIt requires many resources, and one mistake can ruin everything.
βI have seen students blow up their rooms in disastrous experiments.
Bowing respectfully, I smiled with confidence.
βThat is exactly why I chose this field. I trust my mind and my ability to avoid such errors.
The old man nodded, though there was a hint of doubt in his eyes.
βIf that is your wish, so be it.
Picking up a quill, he scribbled something on the parchment before him.
After a moment, he pushed a set of belongings toward me.
βHere are your possessions. Now follow the light servant to Miguelβs laboratory.
Bowing deeply, I took the items and made sure to wave to the other acolytes before leaving through the large door at the entrance.
Outside, the light servant was waiting.
It began to move slowly, and I followed easily, keeping pace thanks to my preparatory knight training.
We passed through corridors lit by magical lights, two great halls with vaulted ceilings, and a fragrant garden filled with flowers that seemed to glow faintly in the dark.
At last, we arrived at an isolated and heavily reinforced area, with signs indicating experimental laboratories.
The light servant stopped in front of an ornate iron door, engraved with gear patterns at the center, beside a name.
Engineering Laboratory.
