The X Guide-Chapter 59: Changes (2)
Devion smiled after hearing that. He looked a bit proud, even. He glanced at Khal.
"Told you, Ayen would like it."
Khal stared at the ring, then glanced back at Devion.
"I’m sure he would."
Ayen dropped his hand to the side, clenching it to feel the weight of the ring on his fingers. He knew that getting used to this was only a matter of time, just as it had been with the bracelet.
They went to the living room. Ayen focused his gaze on the two; their wavelengths instantly manifested in his sight. This was the matter he had yet to tell them.
And Ayen did not plan to tell them anytime soon. Somehow, he was reluctant to do so.
"We came here to visit you, not just for a guiding session." Devion spoke slowly. "We can do it tomorrow," he suggested.
"Hmm, we can rest today." Khal agreed with him.
But Ayen shook his head after observing their wavelengths. He noticed that even though it was not as chaotic as when he first saw them, the accumulation of mana toxins seemed to increase in such a short time.
Ayen had already noticed the difference in their wavelengths when he last guided them and what he was seeing.
How come it increased this much?
It almost resembled their chaotic state before Ayen guided them. Ayen could not understand. Strictly speaking, he had only stopped guiding them for a month.
Since the chaotic wavelength they had was due to years of mana toxin accumulation, it only made sense that it reached that state. Yet now, only after a month of Ayen’s absence, they seemed to be reaching that much chaos in only a short month.
Ayen wondered if they would push through to visiting him in two months... Would their state become worse than it had ever been?
"Ayen?" Khal snapped him out of his thoughts. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing." Ayen clasped his hands together. His thoughts remained.
Something was seriously wrong, and he did not know if the two had noticed it. Ayen could not just blurt it out here, as he had yet to connect with their wavelengths, so how would he know?
Then, he would ask after the guiding session, and probably if the backlash was not as annoying. Ayen wanted to address this issue. So, he would be able to make decisions appropriate to the situation.
What if... Was he harming them by being stubborn about his belief?
"I want to guide you both now," Ayen firmly spoke.
Khal stared at him intently because of this, and Ayen stared back bravely.
"Are you sure?" Khal asked again, his tone much softer.
Ayen confirmed. "I am."
When dealing with Khal, he only needed to bravely voice his thoughts. He was not Devion, whom Khal would devotedly give in to with his whims. Precisely because of this, Ayen had planned to become more assertive; only then would Khal treat him more seriously.
Khal paused and then nodded. He glanced at Devion, who was listening. "Ayen’s sure about this. We should respect his wish."
Sure enough, Devion, who was about to persuade Ayen to do the guiding session the next day, relented. He also agreed that since Ayen wanted to do this, they had to respect his decision.
Sitting in the living room, Ayen looked at the two espers. As for who was the first, they appeared to have decided that it would be Khal this time.
Since Ayen was not really interested in that part, they never asked him again about it.
However, this time something bugged Ayen, and so he wanted to try it.
It was not like Ayen had not thought about his guiding sessions with Devion and Khal. He constantly thought of how to improve and to make guiding them more efficient than he already did.
During his stay in this red zone, he often listened to Lucian talking about such things whenever they casually had a conversation at dinner or before they slept.
In short, he realized an interesting guiding method. Ayen had also known about this, but he had not thought that he would be able to pull it off.
Ayen did not know why he suddenly wanted to try it. Maybe it was also part of his urge to guide them as soon as he had the opportunity.
"Can we try something?" Ayen’s tone was lower this time; he could not help but suppress the anticipation rising from his gut.
Was he anxious or excited? Perhaps, both.
"What is it?" Khal sat beside Ayen, eyes watching him.
Ayen had noticed that Khal seemed to pay more attention to him after his firm decision to guide them now than tomorrow. He met his eyes, then he glanced at Devion, who was curiously waiting for Ayen’s next words.
Ayen did not prolong the suspense either.
"I want to try guiding you both... at the same time."
Ayen almost stumbled and managed to finish his words after a pause. It was not because he was unwilling or he was worried. It was more than the anticipation he was feeling had reached a certain point where it might show in his expression.
He wanted to suppress that. Ayen did not want to show the secret twisted desire that was sprouting from the deepest part of him a little longer.
Devion and Khal blinked, processing what he said. It was safe to say that Ayen’s words completely stumped them.
Khal spoke with a troubled expression after he recovered.
"It won’t be easy."
And that was true. While a Guide guiding two espers at the same time was not unheard of, it always depended on the ranks of the guide and the espers being guided.
Devion sat seriously, staring through Ayen’s eyes.
"We’re SS-class espers. Guiding us individually already gave you backlash symptoms." His worry was evident in his tone.
Khal’s expression also turned serious. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"I won’t let you put yourself to harm because of us, Ayen."
Ayen sighed and already expected such reactions from both of them. However, instead of feeling down, Ayen had only felt more convinced of this decision.
The two never said Ayen could not do it, but they only worried about the aftermath. Ayen understood it; even when he first had the urge to do it, he also thought it was quite absurd.
That was the reality of it. An S-class Guide guiding two A-class espers at the same time would be achievable. However, S-class Guides could not possibly guide two S-class Espers at the same time.
At least, no one had tried it before.
And Ayen was thinking of guiding two SS-class espers at the same time?
