“What the hell is this... Hah...”

April 4th. Time unknown.

I was sitting at the entrance of a bookstore, holding a book in my hands. Though I couldn’t focus on a single word.

“Guess I’ve completely missed the window now...”

I pulled out a long, narrow gift box from my jacket and glanced at it, sulking.

Why the hell did this have to happen... No, actually, I still have no idea what even happened.

I glanced behind me at the empty bookstore interior, then looked down the street in front of me—just as deserted. It felt like the entire world had abandoned me.

No one. Absolutely no one. Not a single human in sight.

The older guy who gave me directions earlier had vanished, and the sky was blanketed in dark clouds. It looked like it might rain at any second, but the air just hung heavy and gray, without a single drop falling.

It was like something straight out of a horror movie—the kind where everyone disappears and only the protagonist is left behind. What had been a lively shopping street just moments ago had turned into something eerie and dead.

If this was some kind of hidden-camera prank or a live-action roleplay show, then kudos to the director. Because I was genuinely starting to get scared.

This place... this street... was not right.

I really wished it was all in my head. But unfortunately, my danger sense always kicks in at times like this. Almost like I had some kind of sixth sense.

I wanted to call for help, but of course, my phone had no signal.

No signal, even though I was still clearly in the city. That was weird in and of itself.

In the end, I couldn’t leave... Not “lost and can’t find the way out,” but literally “can’t get out.” I was trapped here.

At first, I ran around in a panic, trying to escape. I tried the main road. Side alleys. I tried everything. But no matter which way I went, I couldn’t get off this street.

Eventually, I got desperate and broke into a random house to jump out the window. And somehow, I ended up right back on the same damn street.

Was this really the city I knew? Since when did my city have a place like this? What the hell was I supposed to do to get out of here?

At this point, it was obvious—logic and common sense had no place in this situation.

This was starting to feel like that classic supernatural phenomenon they call “ghost walls.”

Come to think of it, I have seen some weird crap lately—succubi, zombies... So seeing a ghost wouldn’t even surprise me anymore.

I tried a bunch of tricks I’d read online. Like walking straight then turning 90 degrees, or spitting into the air to confuse spirits. I even almost whipped my dick out to piss on the street, but even if no one was around, I just couldn’t bring myself to do something so morally bankrupt.

You can guess how it went. If anything had worked, I wouldn’t still be stuck here right now...

Following the typical sequence of these things, I figured the next step was. A ghost should be showing up about now, right?

Please. Anything. I don’t care what it is. Just let something happen already! I don’t want to be stuck in this cursed place a ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) second longer!

By now, Lillian Ji’s birthday party must be nearly over...

—“Cheng-jun, if you don’t come... hehehe, you know what’ll happen, right? Don’t make me upset, okay?”

...Maybe I should just stay here.

Honestly, even if I could get out now, I’d probably just end up facing another terrifying “female ghost.”

“Ugh...”

I let out a long sigh. I had no idea how long I’d been trapped here anymore. My phone battery had already died.

I had completely given up on escaping. At this point, I was ready to leave everything up to fate.

Just then, the door of the bookstore behind me creaked open. Without the support behind me, I fell backward.

Huh? What’s this?

In this murky, shadowy space, there was a sliver of pure white light at its center.

Smooth, slender calves. Thighs free of any fat. Tight hips, and a pristine pair of white panties traced a flawless curve. From just that lower half, I could already picture what the upper body must look like...

Hmm. Her chest must be small to match, otherwise the proportions wouldn’t work. Waist slender. A very childlike figure.

Middle school... no, maybe elementary school?

A thin layer of fabric swayed in the breeze.

Wait a minute. Don’t tell me this is... under her skirt...?

“Juncheng.”

Huh?

That voice—I knew that voice!

It belonged to someone whose title had recently shifted from green to blue—someone I could now completely trust. My very first true friend: Snowy Jiang.

“Snowy!”

I quickly jumped up and looked toward the source. Sure enough—it was Snowy Jiang!

Her expression was as blank as always. Even though I’d just peeked under her skirt, she didn’t react at all.

What’s with girls these days? Have they completely lost their sense of shame?

“Why.”

“Ah? Why what?”

“Here?”

Ah, I get it. She’s asking me why I’m here.

“I don’t know either. I somehow ended up on this street and now I can’t get out... Do you know what’s going on?”

“...”

She went quiet again...

Well, sure, it’s great I ran into someone I know, but at this rate, I’m not getting any closer to understanding this mess.

She’s not the type to explain things properly.

“This place... dangerous.”

“I thought so too. Something about it just feels wrong. Really unsettling.”

Snowy Jiang nodded, then pointed at herself.

“I’ll... take you out.”

When she said that so confidently, I stood up with joy and grabbed her hands, shaking them in gratitude.

“Oh, thank you! You’re a lifesaver!”

Great! I don’t care what kind of place this is—as long as I can leave!

“Payment.”

Of course she’d say that.

She always asks for a reward after helping me.

I’d gotten used to that by now.

“Ah, yeah, I know—hair, right? Hold on.”

Lately, every time Snowy Jiang helped me, she’d ask for something in return. I used to try to thank her with a nice meal or some books, but she only ever wanted my hair—except for once, when she asked for my fingernails.

It never really bothered me, so I didn’t see a reason to deny her. If that’s what she wanted, then fine.

Do unto others, right? I didn’t need to force my values onto her.

Same as always, I grabbed a handful of hair—probably about twenty strands. She usually only asked for ten, so I figured more wouldn’t hurt.

It’s just hair.

But just as that thought crossed my mind, she gently shook her head and refused the hand I held out to her.

“No. Not hair.”

I blinked in surprise.

“Huh? No more hair?”

She nodded without changing expression.

“Enough hair.”

“Okay, then what do you want this time?”

She must’ve finally realized hair isn’t worth much. Maybe now she’d ask for something normal? Clothes? A plushie? Money?

Giving money felt kind of cold, but honestly, it would be the most convenient option.

The next moment, she made her intentions clear through her actions.

She reached out her pale hand and pointed to the surface of her right index finger with her left index finger.

“Nails.”

“...Nails, huh.”

Nod.

So we’re back to body parts again!

A chill ran through me. If it’s nails this time, what’s next...?

No way. She wouldn’t go that far, right?

“I gave you some last time, didn’t I?”

“Not enough. More.”

Even if you say that... I already gave her everything I clipped last time. My nails are barely grown out now—I couldn’t cut them even if I wanted to.

Guess I’d have to make some excuse.

“Sorry, I don’t have a nail clipper with me right now. Also—”

Before I could finish, Snowy Jiang pulled a nail clipper from her pocket and handed it to me.

...Okay, awkward.

I took it and tried again.

“My nails haven’t grown back yet... Could you wait a few days?”

She shook her head.

Refused.

First time she’s ever outright rejected a request of mine.

“What if I give it to you after we get out of here?”

She shook her head again. Decisive.

“Then how about something else?”

Still shaking her head.

“You have to get it now?”

Nod.

That face—completely expressionless. No way to tell what she was feeling, if she even felt anything at all.

I liked to think I understood her better than most. But even now, I had no idea what was going on inside her.

“Nails. Give me.”

“...How do you want them? Like, the whole piece?”

“...Mm.”

She nodded!?

She wanted the whole nail?

“All of them.”

All of them!?

You want me to rip out all my fingernails!? That’s torture!!

“Give me.”

She stepped closer and took off her glasses.

“I want them.”

Her voice was firm—louder than usual.

“Give me your nails.”

It was the first time she’d ever shown me emotion. An intense, unwavering desire.

I didn’t know what she was so fixated on, but I could feel the fear creep over me.

My body was screaming at me: DANGER.

I suddenly understood something.

Snowy Jiang... wasn’t my ally.

No, that wasn’t quite right. Her name color was blue.

That meant she did trust me—completely.

But it was because of that trust that she’d opened up to me. Started expressing her feelings.

Started showing me a value system that normal people couldn’t possibly understand or accept.

“...Tch.”

I stepped back on instinct.

Then I turned and ran with everything I had.

Yeah, it was pathetic. But if I didn’t run, things were going to spiral out of control.

“Knew it! I knew it would turn out like this again!”

I screamed as I ran, venting all my frustration and despair.

Behind me, footsteps began to echo. Light and unhurried. Sounded like I could shake her off easily...

But I was still trapped in this damn looping street. I couldn’t escape.

No matter how far I ran, no matter how hard I pushed...

The footsteps behind me never disappeared.

And if I so much as slowed down, they got closer and closer. Like a ghost tailing me just out of sight.

It was like she knew this place inside and out—like it was her own backyard.

Even though her pace wasn’t fast, her efficiency must’ve been leagues beyond mine. Running around like a headless chicken was only going to burn me out—and once I did, she’d catch up in no time.

“What the hell is all this!?”

I started regretting a lot of things.

If only I hadn’t tried to take a shortcut to make it in time for Lillian’s birthday... I wouldn’t have ended up on this damned road.

If only I hadn’t spent the previous day helping my sisters pick out Lillian’s birthday gift... I wouldn’t have wasted so much time soothing Cora when she got upset.

If only I hadn’t responded to those weird texts last night... I wouldn’t have stayed up until 2 or 3 a.m. and overslept.

But there’s a saying: There are all kinds of fruits in the world, except “what if” fruit.

The truth is... I knew why this was happening.

Snowy Jiang and Lillian Ji were both twisted.

I had realized that. I just never took it seriously.

And this is what I get.

At the very least... half of it is my fault.

God, I wish I could go back in time and slap myself. How could I be so damn stupid?

Yeah...Everything began on the last day of March.
