These Dangerous Girls Placed Me Into Jeopardy-Chapter 3Vol 2. : Small Talk, Preferences
I wasn’t exactly sure why, but that whole finger-sucking stunt Lillian pulled earlier was probably meant for Snowy Jiang to see.
Suddenly, I remembered what happened during lunch last Friday... Those two seemed to already know each other, and judging by the tension between them, they probably had some kind of history.
Seriously though—if you two have a grudge, could you not drag me into it?
I glanced down at my poor finger. A deep bite mark still lingered like a fake ring, refusing to fade. I still couldn’t feel anything with it, and writing felt awkward as hell. For a moment back there, I really thought she bit the damn thing off. What is she, a dog!?
Grumbling to myself, I decided I should probably keep some distance from her for now—before she takes another chunk out of me.
That’s why, during break after second period, I didn’t head to the little pavilion behind the science building. Instead, I went to the bathroom with Leon Luo, and afterward we leaned by the hallway window and started chatting.
“You’ve got a gorgeous girlfriend, and yet here you are wasting time talking to a lowly pleb like me... Don’t tell me you’re into guys now, Ethan?”
“Cut it out. Only dumb couples cling to each other all day. You know what they say—distance makes the heart grow fonder. A little personal space is healthy in a relationship.”
That was just an excuse, of course. The truth is, Lillian and I are a fake couple. We don’t have the kind of natural chemistry real couples do. If anyone picked up on something weird between us, it’d be a problem.
Whenever we talk, eighty percent of the time she’s throwing sexual jokes at me, and the rest is filled with disturbing academic discussions—mostly about why she likes corpses. Stuff I’d really rather not know.
If someone really listened in on our conversations, they’d definitely find it weird. Especially with someone like Cherry Gao around—a high-level eavesdropper. I’ve got to be extra careful about how I act around her.
If we ever got exposed, it wouldn’t affect Lillian one bit. ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) She’d just bounce right back to her “goddess” status. But me? I’d be completely screwed... Without the protection of her pink title, I’d be in serious danger.
At least until the red part of her pink aura fades completely, I’ve got to keep playing the boyfriend role.
I shrugged with a helpless smile.
“We’re just your average couple, that’s all.”
“Uh-huh. Average couples suck fingers in public now?”
“Wait—you saw that?”
“Yeah... I wasn’t trying to watch, I just... kinda saw it.”
“I dunno, it’s like ever since I was a kid, I keep stumbling across weird stuff at the weirdest moments... So don’t take it the wrong way. I really wasn’t trying to peek.”
Oh? So Leon’s [Voyeur] title is a passive skill?
I knew it. Leon may be a bit of a perv, but he’s not the kind of guy who chooses to be a creep. Guess he really didn’t mean to see anything.
As he stared out the window, his face suddenly twitched like he’d seen something disturbing. Then he turned toward me, slung an arm around my shoulder, and gave me that “we’re bros” vibe.
He had to have seen something again.
I tried to turn and look out the window, but he yanked my shoulder tight and blocked my view.
“Dude, what? What’d you see this time?”
“Don’t worry about it... nothing interesting. Anyway, forget that—so you wear glasses now? Nearsighted?”
“Nah, just clear lenses. They help me block out stuff I’d rather not see.”
“Mmm... fair. Glasses really can help you filter the world sometimes. Plus, if the frames are big enough, they can hide your whole face.”
He said it with this tone that felt way too personal—like he really meant it.
Guess the stuff he’s seen over the years must’ve taken a toll on him.
And judging by that twitch earlier, he probably just saw something else awful.
“You know, those frames actually look pretty stylish. Fashion rating: A+.”
“Really? They all look the same to me...”
I took them off and gave them a look. Just a basic black frame. Nothing special.
Lillian had picked them out for me when we went shopping together—back when she was in her “Soft Lillian” mode.
At the store, she chatted with the staff a bunch and had me try on a dozen different frames. In the end, she smiled and said, ‘This one really suits you best, Ethan~’—and just like that, we were done. She even paid for it.
Not that I didn’t want to pay... I just couldn’t afford it. The frame alone was stupid expensive. It’s just a damn frame! Shouldn’t the lenses be the expensive part?
Since mine are just plain glass, I thought the whole thing would cost under 200 yuan. But nope...
Anyway, this is probably the most expensive thing I own now.
“Let me guess—your girlfriend picked it out for you?”
“Yeah... she did.”
“Man, that’s nice. I want a girlfriend who’ll pick out glasses for me too~”
“Why not just get a new pair yourself? You’ve had the same ones since freshman year.”
Those super thick, perfectly round lenses—straight out of some vintage anime.
“No way! My glasses are part of me! You don’t just change your body like that! And round lenses are my religion!”
“I... don’t really get the appeal. Uh—I’m not judging or anything, just—”
“I get it. No need to explain. I already know what kind of person you are. You just speak bluntly. I know you don’t mean any harm.”
“Thanks. Seriously, that helps a lot...”
“No worries. Honestly, speaking your mind is a good thing. It helps people trust you.”
He clapped me on the shoulder and gave me a thumbs-up.
Man... that really hit me. I was genuinely touched.
“Though I used to think you were a total loner. Always by yourself. Never talked to anyone.”
“I’m not anti-social or anything... I had a few friends in middle school. Just didn’t hang out with girls much.”
If casually saying hi counts as friendship, then yeah—I had a few friends back then.
“But after starting high school... it’s like I couldn’t even find someone to talk to anymore.”
It was like my classmates didn’t want to interact with me.
And I never tried to talk to them either, so over time... well, here we are.
“Hmm... I don’t think that’s your fault. This class is kinda different from the others...”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right...”
I think I know what he means. Our class is full of weirdos, to put it lightly.
If all those crazy titles are real, I honestly can’t imagine any of them functioning like a normal human being.
“Still—because you’re in this class, you managed to snag Lillian Ji. If you were in any other class, forget dating her. You wouldn’t even get close.”
“Yeah... makes sense.”
No matter where she goes, Lillian draws attention like a magnet. But in this class, for once, she blends in.
“Oh, and you should be thanking me, by the way.”
“Huh? For what?”
“Remember when we picked seats at the start of the semester? I’m the one who suggested Lillian sit behind you. And what do you know? Proximity wins. That’s how you scored the class idol. Pretty bro of me, right?”
YOU BASTARD!
“Hey hey—don’t give me that look! You’re making me blush~”
I swear to God, I want to chuck him out the second-floor window right now.
“So, uh... if Lan Hua ever finds out about this, she might actually murder me. Ahahaha... please don’t tell her, okay?”
“You mean... Lan Hua?”
“Yeah. You’ve noticed too, right...? She kinda...”
“Mm. I know. Don’t worry, I won’t say a word.”
I nodded like a true bro, but secretly I was wondering if maybe I should tell her at some point...
“Haha, good. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if you’d picked up on it.”
“To be honest, I didn’t at first. But thanks to a certain twist of fate... I figured it out.”
If I didn’t have this power to see people’s true names and titles, I’d never have known Lan Hua was into girls.
I found myself glancing toward the back door—where Lillian and Lan Hua were also talking.
Lillian turned toward me just then and smiled.
I squinted, raised an eyebrow, and curled my lip.
She winked and blew me a kiss.
Oh ho...
“Oh ho~ You two are really lovey-dovey. Jealous, man. Totally jealous.”
“Jealous, huh...”
But Leon probably had no idea—that smile wasn’t sweet at all.
I used to think smiles always meant kindness or friendliness. But ever since meeting Lillian, I’ve learned that the same expression can mean wildly different things.
That smile just now? It definitely meant, ‘You didn’t say anything you shouldn’t have, right, dear Ethan...?’—a smile laced with warning.
My curl of the lip was my reply: ‘Got it. You don’t have to say it.’
The wink meant, ‘Good boy~’
And the blown kiss? Probably just a distraction—or maybe she was teasing me again.

“There’s really nothing to be jealous about. If anything, it’s a total pain in the ass...”
I added in my head: And dangerously so...
“If other guys heard you say that, they’d probably drag you into the woods and beat you to death.”
“Then do me a favor and keep it to yourself, okay?”
What else can I say? I just can’t bring myself to like her.
Doesn’t matter how cute, how pretty, how rich, or how sexy she is.
If your girlfriend is a literal murderer who wants to kill you—can you honestly be happy about that?
Don’t give me that “die beneath the peony, and even as a ghost it’s romantic” crap. That’s bullshit.
Call me a coward if you want—I don’t care. I’m scared of dying.
Once you’re dead, that’s it. Game over. There’s no pleasure after that.
So yeah, my life always comes first. Everything else is secondary.
...But if it were Soft Lillian, I think I might be okay with that...
“With a girlfriend like that and you’re still not satisfied? Then what kind of girl do you like, Ethan?”
Leon’s sudden question stopped me cold.
What kind of girl... do I like?
That’s... a question I’ve never really thought about before.
