Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Duties to Fulfill

Everything in front of him quickly flew by, and Chen Ke felt himself being pulled into the darkness by an invisible force. Suddenly, his whole body jolted as if he had landed on the ground, and he found himself back in Memory Sequence 0.

Chen Ke looked down at the gun in his hand and then surveyed his surroundings. Everything seemed to have restarted.

“Don’t rush, Lin Mo, don’t rush. Put your gun away; it’s not time to use it yet,” Miles patted Chen Ke’s shoulder.

“He’s always impatient, Miles, no matter where he is,” Laven turned her head and smiled at Chen Ke.

Chen Ke looked up at the sky where clouds were drifting southward. There was a light, sporadic rain falling from the sky. Something very important had happened to Lin Mo today, but what was it?

Chen Ke concentrated, and the liquefied Spiritual Energy in his spinal cord began to boil. As he opened his eyes, his pupils turned blue.

With him as the center, every living creature within hundreds of meters was outlined in blue, except for insects. Every other creature was clearly visible.

The dense blue outlines surrounded the Yasla members and consortium gunmen conducting the transaction like a large encirclement.

Besides, there were a few more blue outlines hidden in the shadows, including the group of three with Chen Ke.

This transaction was not as secretive as it seemed. It appeared that various forces knew about it and hid in the shadows with their own agendas.

“Those Holy Relics are very valuable. There aren’t many white ones; mostly they are blue. I also saw a few golden ones,” Laven said.

This wasn’t the first time Chen Ke had heard this. Now, he knew that the suitcase did not contain Holy Relics diamonds, but a severed hand instead.

“I have a feeling this might not go smoothly,” Miles said.

“That’s why we are arranged to stay hidden. Look, the transaction is about to start,” Laven smiled, gesturing for them to look towards the dried-up water channel below.

Several suit-clad agents from the consortium, holding four black suitcases, were negotiating with several people in black hooded coats.

Four suitcases—could there be four hands…?

Chen Ke was puzzled. He did not know what the severed hand was for. If this were in reality, an information box would probably pop up in his view to tell him what it was.

Chen Ke guessed that the hand was certainly not from a normal human. From a brief glimpse in the previous memory sequence, he could confirm two pieces of information.

First, the hand had been cut off but did not hinder the growth of its limb, which looked healthy, even the nails were growing.

Second, there was no blood at the cut, just like processed pork. It was very clean. The cut surface did not look like it was sliced with a knife but more like… it had fallen off by itself?

He looked around. This time, all the hidden forces had not yet made their move, but their sheer numbers were still daunting.

If he wasn’t mistaken, these people were here to steal something.

Chen Ke saw a person leaning against a bridge pier below the nearby canal bridge, monitoring the trading scene.

“Lin, do you see anything?” Miles patted Chen Ke’s shoulder as if he had noticed Chen Ke’s unease.

In Chen Ke’s eyes, a blue outline rimmed Miles’s body.

“Nothing yet, but let’s be cautious. We should split up and check the surroundings,” Chen Ke suggested.

“I also have a feeling that this might not go smoothly, but I hope it’s just me worrying over nothing,” Miles replied.

Chen Ke and Miles exited their hiding spots and moved in two different directions.

“If anything happens, call me on the encrypted channel, Blue Eyes,” Miles waved at Chen Ke.

Chen Ke remembered his appearance; a year later, where Miles was still remained a mystery.

He walked along the edge of the canal toward the direction of the bridge pier, meanwhile unlocking the safety of his M1911A1. Those hidden mutated ones around had definitely noticed him, but they had not acted yet.

They didn’t know that Chen Ke was aware of their presence.

The human silhouette behind the pier seemed to be a normal human—not mutated like the Yasla members, nor floating in the air.

He slid down the slope into the canal, knowing the other party had already seen him, and he no longer hid.

Pointing his gun behind the bridge pier, he said, “Stop hiding, come out.”

The man behind the bridge abutment walked out; he was a middle-aged man in his 50s, dressed in a black jacket and jeans, sturdy like a bull, with salt-and-pepper at his temples and a stern expression. A shallow scar ran from his forehead to the corner of his eye, commanding respect.

“You’re late,” he seemed to know Lin Mo.

Chen Ke hesitated for a moment, slowly lowering the gun in his hand.

“I hope you’ve already taken care of the matter,” the man said.

Thoughts whirled through Chen Ke’s mind: this man knew Lin Mo… and it seemed like they were making some sort of secret deal…

No wonder… today, for Lin Mo, the most important thing was this…

Chen Ke slipped his gun back into its holster and nodded at the man.

“Very good… very good…” the man seemed relieved and stepped closer.

Chen Ke instinctively stepped back a few paces, hesitatingly said, “You…”

“Humph… At this stage, do you still harbor doubts?” the man chuckled.

Chen Ke nodded again, not knowing what to say.

“I am not a Spiritual Ability User, but I have spent many years smuggling Holy Relics across the sea and have encountered more Transcendents than you have. Trust me, this is the only way,” the man declared.

This man was a smuggler at sea? Chen Ke suddenly had an unrealistic suspicion.

“That method… how confident are you?” Chen Ke ventured to ask.

“Twenty percent,” the other answered.

“Less than half…” Chen Ke feigned a disappointed look.

“Although the odds are not high, this is the only way to bring them back, Lin… either lose them forever or take a chance…” The man reached out and patted Chen Ke’s shoulder.

“To bring them back…” Chen Ke was bewildered.

He had no idea what the man was talking about.

“Your sister, and my wife. This is the only way, Lin,” the man added.

Chen Ke suddenly realized something; this man and Lin Mo had formed an alliance secretly to save their most important people.

And the man’s use of the word “come back” implied that the two women were not dead but trapped somewhere.

It sounded like they were stuck somewhere unreachable, hence the need for unconventional means to save them.

Did that mean Lin Mo and Yasla both knew that the suitcase contained a severed hand?

Lin Mo, within the consortium, tampered with the transaction suitcase, and Yasla made connections under Hainerd’s coordination…

Holy shit, was this man Hainerd?

As Chen Ke thought, he suddenly had a realization and looked up at the man—he looked familiar, not like a local from the United Federation but more like a Latino.

A year ago, the deal between the consortium and Yasla, Lin Mo was also involved…

If this man truly was Hainerd… combined with Chen Ke’s conversation with Lucina when mentioning her mother’s reaction…

It must be right!

Hainerd and Lin Mo had formed an alliance behind the backs of their organizations to save their wife and sister.

That severed hand must be key to the rescue plan, and even in Hainerd’s hands, it was useless without Yasla’s power…
