Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Must Die Tonight

10 p.m., Bulland Biscuit Factory.

It was an abandoned factory. Bulland’s strawberry-flavored biscuits once were a bestseller throughout the federation, but three years ago, they were badly impacted by Transcendent’s Spiritual Energy Cookies, and sales had plummeted ever since.

Their factories scattered across various locations had gradually been deserted. In addition to reducing production capacity by 80%, the CEO was still exploring new snack products, endeavoring to continue the legacy of the 37-year-old brand.

To recoup funds, Bulland sold many of its factories to various spiritual energy purchasers. A few were bought and demolished to build new buildings, while the majority were left intact and off-limits to everyone, turning into breeding grounds for Spirit Explosion Space.

The machinery used for producing and packaging biscuits was still piled up in the factory area, retaining their full functions, but they now had no purpose. Spiritual Business like Bulland Company paid for all the expenses when buying the factory houses; even if it felt wasteful, there was no loss on Bulland’s end as the Spiritual Businesses wanted to preserve all the factory’s contents to the greatest extent.

After all, what they sought was the authenticity of abandonment.

Inside the manager’s office of the deserted factory, a thick layer of dust accumulated on the desk, while the Silent Witch sat atop the table, her eyes closed in deep thought.

To the right of the witch, against the wall, Lucina’s hands were cuffed and hung from the water pipe installed against the wall, barely touching the ground with the tips of her toes.

Her right eye socket was swollen, her left cheek a shade of dark purple. Her cracked lips still dripped with blood, and the smoky makeup around her eyes was smeared by forehead sweat, streaming down her cheeks as black tears.

Her jacket lay tossed aside, her black tank top covered in tears and stained with blood, revealing an abdomen bruised and swollen from beating, with leftover bloodied vomit on her collarbone.

A hooded freak gripped Lucina’s cheek, forcing her mouth into an ‘O’ shape, and stuffed a tentacle-shaped extension from his right hand down her throat.

Lucina made a choking noise, her eyes rolling back, stomach acid spilling from the corners of her mouth, her body trembling slightly. Seeing Lucina’s agony, the freak revealed a sinister smile and twisted his fingers, causing the tentacle to stretch even longer.

“Don’t play with her until she’s dead!” snapped the Silent Witch, opening her eyes fiercely.

The freak looked back at the witch, rolling his eyes before retracting the tentacle from Lucina’s mouth, leaving a string of thick saliva.

Lucina gagged, vomiting the contents of her stomach onto her chest.

“I just went inside her stomach and stirred it up,” the freak said with a laugh, looking towards Lucina with a sense of pleasure yet to be satisfied.

“Why don’t you wait until we get the Holy Diamond before you play?” the Silent Witch said angrily.

The freak tilted his head and licked his lips with his tongue.

The Silent Witch jumped down from the desk and strode elegantly over to Lucina, lifting her chin gently with a finger to examine her face.

Lucina spat out a mouthful of bloody phlegm at the witch.

The witch sneered coldly, wiped the blood from her face with her thumb, then sucked it from her thumb.

“Your blood tastes good, and your body is quite tough. Once we get the Holy Diamond and return to Yasla, I will show you many more enjoyable things,” the witch said with a smile.

“Go on… kill me now,” Lucina said fiercely.

“I will, I will kill you slowly, but right now you’re still alive just because we haven’t gotten the Holy Diamond. Your little boyfriend is on his way here, but sadly, neither of you is going to make it through tonight,” the witch said slowly.

“Chen Ke…” Lucina’s heart sank.

In this factory, dozens of such freaks lay in wait; it was her first time dealing directly with beings from the Transcendent plane, and their power was not something a mail carrier could contend with.

“He promised your father to exchange you back,” the witch laughed. “Once we get the Holy Diamond, we’ll kill him, and then let your father come to exchange for you, hmm hmm hmm…”

Lucina was startled. Had Chen Ke really found Hainerd?

“Listen here, you bald bitch… If you dare to lay a hand on them, I’ll haunt you as a ghost and kill you…” Lucina said furiously.

“Your threats are meaningless. Look at yourself now, merely a punching bag hanging there, devoid of a single bit of spiritual energy. To us, you are nothing more than an ant,” the witch laughed.

“But you are not entirely worthless. When your little boyfriend arrives, I’m going to torture you right before his eyes. Make him kneel and beg for mercy, make him kneel before me with the Holy Diamond in his hands, begging me to spare your life,” the witch said as she grabbed the back of Lucina’s head, staring into her eyes.

The anger and humiliation in her heart erupted, and Lucina hysterically cursed at the witch. But soon, darkness enveloped her vision, and she passed out.

The Silent Witch pulled her thumb out of Lucina’s navel, licked the blood off it. Against a Transcendent, the muscles of mortals had no significance whatsoever.

“Two more hours, and he will be here,” the witch said, looking out the window.

As her voice faded, dozens of hooded figures emerged from the shadows around the factory, lurking in places where neither lamplight nor moonlight reached, waiting for the prey to walk in.

Chen Ke sat on the edge of the bed, fixing the battery into the assassin’s phone. He had two such phones in his possession, one of which Lin Mo always carried on his person.

Previously, for fear of the corporation tracking his location through the phone signal, he had never carried these two phones and had even removed their batteries.

But tonight, he had other plans.

“Beep… Beep…” The familiar number connected, and Chen Ke waited for the other party to answer.

Pankia staring at the caller ID on his phone was flooded with thoughts, and after a long while, he finally pressed the answer button.

“It took you a long time to answer the phone,” Chen Ke said.

“…” Pankia didn’t speak, just listened silently.

“You’ve failed twice, Mr. Lan Mei, now it’s my turn,” Chen Ke said, sounding distracted.

Pankia, of course, knew about the two assassination failures, the second one being a near-miss. But when it rains, it pours, and it wasn’t just Lin Mo who was out of control; Pankia was a bit overwhelmed himself.

“I have many questions for you, Mr. Lan Mei. Midnight tonight, at Bulland Cookie Factory, let’s settle all our scores once and for all,” Chen Ke said.

“I will be there, Lin Mo. I will give you all the answers, so you can die without regrets,” Pankia said with a cold laugh.

“I hope so,” Chen Ke said with a laugh, and then hung up the phone.

Pankia picked up the desk phone and immediately called Slavin.

“Bulland Cookie Factory, midnight tonight. Send all the assassins from Opportunity City, we can’t afford another failure,” Pankia instructed.

“Mr. Chairman… But may…,” Slavin began to ask.

“Never mind about him, Lin Mo must die tonight,” Pankia said emphatically.
