This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!-Chapter 85 - 0: Where’s the Sun?
Chapter 85 -085: Where’s the Sun?
March 29, noon.
The life countdown timer at the corner of his eye kept ticking away, with 17 hours and 57 minutes of life remaining.
But at this moment, Chen Ke lay in the bathtub, stark naked, enjoying a bubble bath and sipping champagne.
Finding a comfortable and cheap rental apartment in Opportunity City wasn’t actually that hard, and with Hall’s recommendation, Chen Ke quickly found a satisfactory place.
It wasn’t far from Pihom’s gun shop and was situated away from the city center, surrounded by quiet and pleasant environs, though lacking a bit in popularity.
...
Almost half of the floors in this 16-story apartment building were empty, but Chen Ke didn’t care about these details. He didn’t need neighbors, so without a second thought, he moved into the top floor of the building.
The room had everything, two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, complete with air conditioning, a washing machine, a television, an electric water heater, and even a computer with Windows XP already connected to the internet.
The monthly rent was just 400 union coins, unimaginably cheap, so Chen Ke paid six months of rent in advance.
After all, with more than 50,000 union coins in hand and no need for food, drink, or other essentials, he was quite content with his lot.
Except for that pitiable lifespan.
“Don’t panic, I’m not panicking,”
he comforted himself. Just after crossing over, he could only live for 2 hours, but now, that time had increased tenfold!
Chen Ke’s feeling at the moment could be described in one sentence, “What doesn’t kill you just makes you stranger.”
After bathing and getting dressed, Chen Ke wrapped himself in a newly bought bathrobe and quickly rolled into bed.
In the United Federation, cable TV channels required a subscription, and Chen Ke certainly didn’t have the luxury to watch TV anymore. With a computer available for surfing the internet, who would still watch TV?
Driven by curiosity, he booted up the Google browser, typed in www.baidu.com, and pressed enter.
Damn, it actually existed!
But the domain was not directed to a page within the Fei Huang Republic, it instead pointed to a version for overseas regions. Chen Ke tried to change the domain to .cn without success and could only see search content provided by Baidu for overseas users.
It seemed to be determined by the accessing IP.
Who the hell would use Baidu abroad? Chen Ke chuckled, opened up google.com, and found it blazingly fast, with no need for VPNs.
Time to check out YouTube for some good stuff.
All sorts of dumbass netizens’ videos.
This foreigner is eating hot pepper powder from the Fei Huang Republic.
Dumbass…
Holy shit, he just jumped off a bridge…
2156 people liked it.
Did he die…?
Chen Ke dragged the progress bar, and the guy didn’t die.
Really damn pity.
Yo, yo, yo!! This chick’s got a nice figure!
Damn… my left hand! Control yourself!
Like it, like it…
Close the tab!
Chen Ke took a deep breath and suddenly remembered something, then typed “HEMA teaching” into the YouTube search bar.
HEMA, short for Historical European Martial Arts, is a modern reconstruction of historical European martial arts systems based on historical texts and records, which covers hand-to-hand combat, daggers, rapiers, longswords, hacking swords, sword and shield, and other cold weapons. Simply put, these are the moves used by knights in Medieval times.
Chen Ke had seen CPA agents use Holy Relics akin to revolvers, but most Holy Relics were still primarily cold weapons. In terms of fighting with cold weapons during the Medieval era, Chen Ke was completely clueless.
So, he decided to cram and learn about the fighting techniques of swords, shields, and other Medieval weapons.
Of course, it’s 2009 now, and the combat techniques from Medieval Europe had long been lost. HEMA was merely a modern reconstruction based on historical records and imagination, existing more as a sport than as lethal techniques.
However, Chen Ke didn’t have many choices.
The page immediately displayed many HEMA tutorial videos, and even the video loading ads changed to information on “HEMA clubs.”
He randomly clicked on a video, where a muscular white man was expertly swinging a two-handed longsword, making it look as graceful as a dance. Chen Ke observed carefully and noticed that this swordsmanship was based on large rotational swings.
It was hard to get the gist, so Chen Ke decided to start from the most basic stuff.
He opened the official website of a HEMA alliance, seeking information up and down. After about fifteen minutes, he got the gist of it.
Turns out it was split between Unarmored Swordsmanship and Full Armor Swordsmanship! And depending on the weapons, they varied widely…
Lightning sword… Armed sword… Longsword… Greatsword…
He thought it was going to be very complicated, but as Chen Ke delved deeper, he realized that the classifications made by HEMA clubs were barely more than a consideration of financial investment…
Full armor Greatsword participants needed to invest a lot of money in buying all kinds of simulated armors and greatswords, which usually became dented after one bout and needed replacement and repair. Unarmored, on the other hand, meant wearing protective gear and using safe swords, so it was more like playing…
Chen Ke skipped these as his situation was very different… He would be fighting in close combat with real monsters! Besides, he conveniently had a golden Holy Relic Longsword at hand, but right now, he wasn’t strong enough to wield it freely…
But that was only temporary. Chen Ke decided to work out when he had time, to see if he could get stronger, even though he wasn’t sure if physical growth was still possible in his current state.
Chen Ke continued to search for HEMA swordsmanship tutorials and discovered a swordsmanship system called “Meyer Swordsmanship.”
It was a very extensive and scientific swordsmanship system, utilizing four basic stances: Roof Style, Bull Style, Plow Style, and Fool’s Guard, along with eight secondary stances: Wrath Guard, Long Point, Tail Guard, Change Through, Key, Unicorn, Hanging, and Iron Door, connecting all other attack routines together.
While these stances sounded complex, they were actually quite easy to understand after watching the video once. The instructor in the video demonstrated these twelve stances in a series of fluid and impressive moves.
Chen Ke stood up, grabbed the clothes hanger leaning against the window, and practiced with it against the video, gradually getting the hang of it.
Between one guard position and the next, various sword strikes could be incorporated, making these twelve positions like a high overpass with many branching paths, with the sword techniques being the multitude of vehicles traveling on the bridge. When to send which “car” through which exit was entirely up to him.
In theory, Chen Ke understood this, but he would still need time to practice and master it. Before he knew it, the idea of getting a membership at the HEMA club had sprouted in his mind…
Learning and practicing skills at the club and then going to the Great Void to hack away at monsters…
He also downloaded a bunch of “Meyer Swordsmanship” video tutorials and various two-handed sword, longsword, and sword and shield basic moves from YouTube, ready to load them onto his smartphone for viewing anytime.
When it came time to organize them, he found the phone’s memory was insufficient…
The Nokia E63 came with a mere 512MB memory card as standard, while the videos Chen Ke wanted to save amounted to a full 3GB.
He remembered something, back at the motel, he had confiscated a 16GB memory card from the landlord’s voyeuristic camera…
It seems he hadn’t looked at it yet…
Chen Ke squinted his eyes and fished the tiny memory card from his backpack, inserting it into his phone.
Before formatting it, he wanted to see what had been recorded…
File manager launched!
Gallery launched!
Wow!
Wow, wow, wow!
So many videos!
Chen Ke’s fingers trembled slightly. Just by looking at the thumbnail previews, he knew that they captured the illicit acts of men and women.
Too sinful! I must give this a thorough denouncement!
He picked one with a particularly enticing thumbnail, swish, played it on full screen!
This filming angle is no good… you can’t see anything during the act.
Chen Ke was disappointed and switched to another video.

Yo, yo, yo, yo!!
Yo, yo!
Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo!!!
Yo! Yo, yo!
Fully satisfied.
Next one, let’s see…
Hee hee…
No good, no good, I need to rise above such base interests…
Chen Ke pulled himself together, deciding to watch one last video before formatting this sinful memory card!
Launched!
The screen is very dark.
Nothing but sound.
“Hee hee… so hot… hee hee hee…”
“What… oh… what is this?…”
A woman’s voice, sounding quite young.
“Ah… uh… ah ah… so hot…”
“So hot, ow… hee hee… like the sun…”
The sun? Chen Ke was puzzled, hurry up, let’s see what you look like?
“So hot… ah… ah… ah…”
“The sun… ah ah ah!!!!!! Ah ah ah ah ah!!!!!!”
“Ah ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Ah ah ah ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Ah ah ah ah ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Fuck! Chen Ke quickly turned the volume down. The woman’s voice in the video suddenly let out a harrowing scream, like a spike, jabbing non-stop into Chen Ke’s eardrums.
Chen Ke’s breathing was rapid, feeling a burning heat in his chest, with the Sun Mark even sparking a little.
In the video, the darkness slowly lightened, a disheveled, pale-faced Asian woman with eyes black as pitch gradually moved away from the camera. The initial darkness of the video was the woman’s eyes…
“The sun… hee hee hee…”
The woman chuckled stupidly at the camera, her teeth sharp, green mucus flowing from her nostrils. She extended her four-fingered claw, touching her nose.
“I’ll come for you in seven days… hee hee hee… the sun…” the woman giggled again.
Chen Ke closed the video.
“Damn Mad Fak! Who the hell loaded a ghost movie in here?!” Chen Ke cursed, promptly formatting the memory card.
